The evader tries to transfer a load from an origin to a destination. The interdictor tries to inhibit the transfer and/or capture the load. The evader uses, as an online learning tool, the Hedge (or multiplicative updates) algorithm. This work focuses on the countermeasures that can be taken by the interdictor by taking into account recent results in the area. We show that a greedy behavior is near optimal for the interdictor.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122906935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, non-linear characteristics of light emitting diodes (LEDs) as VLC transmitters degrade the bit error rate (BER) performance of DCO-OFDM due to its high peak-to-average-power ratio. In this paper, we propose neural network based digital pre-distorter (DPD) to mitigate non-linear LED response for DCO-OFDM transmission. The proposed scheme extends the reliable transmission range by 1.75 m and 1.8 cm for non-compensated LED response and Memory Polynomial based DPD, respectively.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115061687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Multi-Packet Reception (MPR) systems can potentially increase the capacity of devices due to the capability of decoding multiple transmitted packets at the receiver. However, the aggregate interference in such scenarios can lead to unfair distribution of the resources and eventually waste of energy. Therefore, this work provides an analytical characterization of the trade-off between capacity and energy consumption while regulating the channel access of multiple transmitters to a single-MPR receiver. The theoretical modeling considers different densities of spatially distributed nodes and their channel propagation conditions, in addition to different capture sensitivity thresholds at the receiver. The model is validated through simulation and it is shown to be an effective tool to identify the optimal channel access probability that maximizes the capacity per energy consumption.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122811583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To deploy the application on low-end cost-effective smartwatches and to avoid the high consumption of wider range transmission technologies, the data from the smartwatches are transmitted via Bluetooth Low Energy. In contrast with other similar projects, which require the user to transport an extra gateway node (e.g. a smartphone), our architecture is grounded on a low-cost ‘roaming’ mechanism supported by a scalable network of embedded platforms. A specific central node is in charge of optimizing the selection of the gateway at each moment depending on the signal level with which the data from the watch are received. Thus, smartwatches (or smartbands) become the only wearable of the networking application. The ongoing prototype has been initially employed to implement a basic fall detection application.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133220858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) was adopted as an efficient candidate to transmit collected data over-constrained environments. However, the congestion control scheme of CoAP and its advanced versions still do not cope with the massive deployment of heterogeneous devices and simultaneous transmission, which increases congestion implying the unsatisfactory of many applications with various requirements and the energy-efficiency reduction. As the first step in our study to improve the CoAP congestion control, we deeply analyzed in this work the network performance when CoAP congestion control operates in an IoT network. We varied several parameters at different levels: the network, the CoAP protocol itself, and the node processing capacity. This performance analysis is performed by simulation under Cooja/Contiki. Obtained results show the limitations of CoAP and the need to adjust the parameters of CoAP, whether the network state is congested or not.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132438834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the stringent latency requirements in IIoT, coordinating the simultaneous transmissions of massive entities and knowing the interference they create to each other is not feasible. Additionally, due to the mobility feature of mobile robots and automated guided vehicles, the experienced channel fading may differ from the estimated one. Therefore, some uncertainties exist in IIoT networks while we decide the communication and control mechanisms. Within the context of IIoT, this paper discusses some resource allocation solutions from the perspective of Online Convex Optimization (OCO). OCO is a computationally lightweight and memory-efficient mathematical tool which tackles the optimization problems, given that the network environment is arbitrary and unknown. We first introduce the key performance indicators in IIoT networks and highlight the uncertain factors, which we may encounter while allocating the communication resources in IIoT. Then we provide an overview of main principles of OCO and present the comparison benchmarks and related metrics for performance evaluation. Moreover, we discuss the kind of resource allocation problems in IIoT that can be tackled by OCO. Finally, we summarize the advantages of applying OCO to IIoT networks.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128948834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on a prominent open-source discrete-event network simulator which is extended to offer advanced batch simulation execution, results acquisition, post-processing analysis and presentation features, as well as machine learning optimisations to reduce the overall processing load. In that respect, we have developed a software system, which allows researchers to define simulation scenarios along with a set of parameters and to commission simulation executions in large scale thus delivering to the end user a service that is novel, robust, extendible and extensible. It has been thoroughly evaluated within ESDA Lab (UoP), proving its feasibility and demonstrating its ability to leverage machine learning techniques in order to automatically identify and exclude simulations that are classified as ones that will not meet defined performance requirements, thus drastically reducing simulation workload, delay and resource utilisation.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116935294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With an increased focus on intelligence and automation through core network functions such as the NWDAF, service providers are tasked with integrating machine learning models and artificial intelligence systems into their existing network operation practices. Due to the dynamic nature of next-generation networks and their supported use cases and applications, model drift is a serious concern, which can deteriorate the performance of intelligent models deployed throughout the network. The work presented in this paper introduces a model drift detection and adaptation module for 5G core networks. Using a functional prototype of a 5G core network, a drift in user behaviour is emulated, and the proposed framework is deployed and tested. The results of this work demonstrate the ability of the drift detection module to accurately characterize a drifted concept as well as the ability of the drift adaptation module to begin the necessary remediation efforts to restore system performance.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114558461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the cost for rolling out such systems may be significant. Radio stripes form a promising solution which offers the potential of scalability at a reduced price. This paper investigates the uplink scenario of a CF mMIMO system, imple-mented with a limited-capacity radio stripe which integrates a novel arrangement of access points (APs), fully exploiting macro-diversity benefits. We also analyze a heuristic Compare-and-Forward (CnF) strategy, which, by comparing normalized linear minimum mean square error (N-LMMSE) soft estimates, enables optimal dynamic cooperation clustering, thus leading to a user-centric radio stripe network approach. Aiming at maximizing the per-user uplink spectral efficiency (SE), we ensure that, under finite capacity constraints, our solution can guarantee better performance than existing radio stripe architectures, especially when system size scales.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125261427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
