Iterative recovery algorithms that retrieve the signals at the fusion center have to face the challenge of a non-uniform distribution of the receive powers induced by the individual sensors. This paper tackles the problem by a special form of bias compensation, which treats the biasing effects at the linear estimate individually. This consideration leads to variants of the well-known VAMP algorithm. We compare the performance of the new variants by numerical simulations in a WSN scenario.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"218 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115074368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The coming of fifth generation (5G) deeply influences streaming quality for end-users. Thorough experimentation is required to examine and estimate the potential of 5G and to pinpoint any limitations for the specific vertical. Hence, related 5G enabled Media use cases (UCs) play a major role in identifying and addressing these needs. This work presents some exemplary UCs of the Media vertical, along with their stringent requirements, their deployment on a 5G network slice, as well as initial testing and 5G Key Performance Indicator measurements achieved. Important conclusions are drawn for the onboarding of such an essential vertical on 5G networks.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129124376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The promise of low latency data delivery by 5G networks has encouraged machine-type communication in addition to existing human-type service consumption. This change has greatly challenged the telecom operators to maintain a highly scalable and resilient telecom core to deal with the potentially volatile nature of traffic demand. To that end, sofwarization and virtualization of core network entities have extensively helped to achieve a high degree of flexibility and scalability. Complementing this, separating the computing from the storage as a second degree of decoupling is required to make network functions highly resilient. In this work, we propose the stateless model for control-plane functions to make core network transparent to failures. In addition to achieving resiliency, we present the importance of stateless control-plane functions in reducing overall latency mainly induced during handover procedure execution.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129020513","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, the assignment of traffic to the servers must also be solved. When solving that problem, it is especially important to consider the connections if the deployment has to be done in sparsely populated areas with long distances to interconnect and where it is likely to find no adequate infrastructure previously deployed. In a previous paper, we presented an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) formulation that solves that problem assuming straight and dedicated cable ducts between network nodes. However, reusing cables ducts and exploiting space division multiplexing (using different fibers of each cable to reach different nodes) can lead to more cost-effective solutions. Moreover, it is crucial to implement redundancy between MEC-DCs and WAN gateways to provide survivability against failures in this network segment. In this paper, we present a heuristic to improve the result obtained with our previous ILP formulation, assuming shared fiber ducts and cables, and creating a ring topology between MEC-DCs and WAN gateways. Results show that our proposal reduces the total deployment cost, while fulfilling latency constraints of MEC applications and providing fault tolerance.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123946146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Deploying large-scale antenna arrays at higher frequencies is expected to be one of the key-enabling technologies for accurate localization and tracking in vehicular networks. However, different from conventional vehicular systems, the near-field region becomes non-negligible due to the enlarged antenna aperture and reduced wavelength, which has to be taken into account in 6G vehicular networks. This paper investigates the near-field cooperative localization and tracking problem, where the diversity in the angle-of-arrivals at different antenna elements is exploited for location estimation. An algorithm based on belief propagation (BP) is developed, while particle processing with a novel agent selection strategy is proposed to facilitate low-complexity and high-precision localization and tracking. Simulation results will show the effectiveness of the proposed BP algorithm over the state-of-the-art approaches in terms of estimation accuracy.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131585267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to practically achieve SWIPT the received RF signal is split in time, power or spatial domain. Even for the solution of the integrated SWIPT receiver, the converted direct current power signal is split in the power domain. As such a portion of the received signal is used for information decoding and the other for energy harvesting (EH). Recently, a scheme which achieves SWIPT without split of the resources, with the use of a diplexer at the receiver's side, was proposed. In this paper, we adopt this solution and we extend it to a diplexer-based SWIPT receiver, with multiple-antenna rectification circuits. As such we succeed SWIPT with enhanced performance, both in terms of symbol error rate and EH. We further compare the solution to the conventional integrated SWIPT receiver with multiple rectennas and prove the enhanced performance of the proposed solution. Non-coherent energy detection is succeeded with the use of a maximum-likelihood soft decoder, while the adopted modulation scheme is on-off keying (OOK). Furthermore, we investigate the effect of pulse energy modulation (PEM) in the system's performance. It is shown that PEM scheme enhances the performance in terms of EH, while lags behind in terms of information decoding, compared to OOK.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130410486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, as the channels data rate in an optical fiber is getting higher, the synchronization among the transmissions is getting harder to be achieved. For this reason, asynchronous transmission access strategies gradually gain ground in the optical domain. In this study, we explore the performance of a distributed asynchronous transmission wavelength division multiple access (WDMA) strategy along with an efficient wavelengths adjustment scheme, for optical intra-cluster data center networks (DCNs). Our proposal reaches different levels of performance according to the adopted wavelengths adjustment scheme, while in all cases it achieves improved performance comparing to other intra-cluster DCNs. Finally, the proposed intra-cluster network is proven to be power efficient, suitable to be exploited in hyperscale DCNs.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133727786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The optimal placement of these SFCs is of paramount importance for the network slice performance. Nonetheless, this problem remains partially unresolved, primarily because it requires managing resources distributed across various Edge and Cloud sites in different geographical locations. Moreover, the complexity of the problem significantly increases when considering constraints such as end-to-end delay, processing delay, VNF affinity, and traffic requirements between VNFs. This paper addresses this problem and proposes both offline and online practical solutions for the Virtual Network Functions Chain Placement Problem (VNF-CPP) that are based on Integer Linear Programming (ILP) and heuristic algorithms. Furthermore, theoretical analysis and simulations are provided to verify the efficiency of the proposed placement algorithms.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114708868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
