The development of excess pore pressures in the clays has been investigated in terms of the progress of construction, geometry of structures and hence the load resulted. The effect of pre- fabricated drains on the behavior of the soil-structure system has been highlighted.","PeriodicalId":206173,"journal":{"name":"The Open Ocean Engineering Journal","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116310291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effects of grain size distribution and structure on the mechanic behavior of silty sands were mainly analyzed. It is shown that the obvious differences of the mechanical characteristics between undis- turbed soils and remolded soils are caused by the differences of soil structures. Although the grain size distribution are different between two soil samples, their mechanical characteristics may be close to each other, or may have obvious differences because of the effects of micro-structure.","PeriodicalId":206173,"journal":{"name":"The Open Ocean Engineering Journal","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130009297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is shown that the penetration of spudcan can cause the soil layer affected in an annular zone. The affected zone has a maximum width of one times the diameter of the spudcan. The deflection of the platform's foundation increases with the penetration of spudcan. The smaller the density of soil layer is, the bigger the displacement of the foundation is. However, the maximum displacement at the top of the foun- dation changes little once the penetration depth is over a critical value. The bigger the diameter and the penetration depth of the spudcan are, the bigger the displacements of the foundation are.","PeriodicalId":206173,"journal":{"name":"The Open Ocean Engineering Journal","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122718404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The changing law between accumulative generalized shear strains vs. failure numbers has been analyzed and a cyclic shear strength curve has been received based on cyclic torsional shear tests. According to the test re- sults, the criterion of saturated soft clay is approved on plane. Further, the test results are in good accord with the pseudo-static elasto-plastic creep model, which based on the cyclic triaxial tests according to the theory of pseudo-static creep. Then, dynamic character of saturated soft clay is verified from test results. The reliable proof has been provided for understanding and using dynamic character of saturated soft clay with cyclic loads, at the same time the ground has been provided for using and popularizing pseudo-static elasto-plastic cyclic strength model and pseudo-static elasto-plastic cy- clic creep model.","PeriodicalId":206173,"journal":{"name":"The Open Ocean Engineering Journal","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121526104","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the experimental results, the responses of bucket foundations in calcareous sand under vertical dynamic loadings are analyzed. A simplified method for dealing with the conflict of scaling factors of the inertial and the percolation in sand foundation is presented. The presented method is that the material for experiments is not changed while the effects are modified by perturbation method. In this study, finite element analysis is carried out to evaluate the stability of a trial quay wall during construction. The single cylinder is examined in terms of turnover failure subjected to a five year design wave action. The case when the cylinder is empty is the critical situation during construction. Filling the cylinder right after the installation is an effective way to increase the stability. After the quay wall has been formed by joining the single cylinders, the safety against overturning is reevaluated. The factor of safety of the quay wall is assessed to be 1.5 under a fifty year design wave action.","PeriodicalId":206173,"journal":{"name":"The Open Ocean Engineering Journal","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128522181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
