In this paper, we propose an enhanced Westwood+ scheme for wireless/heterogeneous networks with a high random bit error rate (BER), in which the sender is introduced with the following three characteristics: 1) to consider the impact of corruption strength in bandwidth estimation; 2) to reset new slow start threshold (ssthresh) and congestion window (cwnd) after receiving every special ACK with random bit error event's information; 3) to effectively avoid the unwanted timeouts which can be induced in conventional TCP in the case that the retransmitted packets are corrupted in wireless channel. Simulation results show that in the heterogeneous network with 1% fixed packet corruption rate as well as variational packet loss rate, the proposed scheme could achieve prominent improvements in goodput over Westwood+, NewReno and Reno TCP, respectively, in most cases","PeriodicalId":205758,"journal":{"name":"2006 Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126336781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the signal angle-of-arrival (AoA) estimates, channel correlation matrix is constructed. It is shown that signal transmission of STF codes in the eigen-modes of this matrix gives an effective array weighting gain which improves system error performance without sacrificing any diversity and coding gain. For imperfect AoA estimation, error probability loss due to incorrect estimation is quantified and the required accuracy of AoA estimation for securing the performance gain is shown for different angular spreads","PeriodicalId":205758,"journal":{"name":"2006 Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications","volume":"291 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130282371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike many OFDM channel estimation methods, where the channel parameters are estimated based on a known or an estimated length, in this paper, not only the channel length is assumed to be unknown but also only significant channel parameters will be identified using the proposed method. Firstly, a model is proposed for the channel response. By using a training based scenario, the model parameters are estimated using least squares (LS) or IFFT. Based on those estimates, an MDL model selection method is used to estimate the channel length and classify each significant parameter of the channel response. Simulation results show that the method is capable of identifying (classifying) significant channel parameters with high probability. The selection policy of servers in an anycast scenario could assist in keeping the network operating quiescently for a required time frame. This paper proposes a novel load balancing model to make anycast routing decisions based on route efficiency, and remaining life-times of the servers. The model makes use of the historical load and channel capacity profiles to accurately estimate the remaining life of each server.
