Psychological empowerment and well-being are considered under-researched from the perspective of a female entrepreneur. The study employs the qualitative methodology to generate an understanding of the phenomenon of female entrepreneurship leading to the psychological empowerment of women in Pakistan. Data were collected from Pakistani female entrepreneurs using in-depth interviews. A grounded theory framework was employed to generate the emergent findings. Emerging themes revolve around personality characteristics, gender development, sociocultural support and religion shaping the psychological empowerment of Pakistan female entrepreneurs. The females were also reported to have appreciable competence in managing their businesses. In addition, the findings showed that the females had a greater level of autonomy, independence and freedom to run their businesses. The findings present preliminary evidence that females engaged in entrepreneurial activities feel psychologically empowered. These outcomes provided valuable insight into using entrepreneurship as a strategic tool to empower Pakistani female entrepreneurs. This should contribute to a critical and more distinct understanding of the psychological empowerment of female entrepreneurship in developing economies.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132482325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study adopts a qualitative research approach (n = 58) to examine the community capitals within three case study districts and communities. Focus groups and semi-structured interviews were conducted, gathering two different data at the district and community levels, using the Trans-TMM model to obtain reliable data through translation at the community level. The findings reveal that the cultural, social and political capitals and aspects of the research communities’ human capital offer significant entrepreneurial potential. However, in contrast, the scarcity of financial capital and low quality of the human capital in the communities poses a considerable challenge to significant entrepreneurial development and sustainability and therefore required attention. The article provides insight into entrepreneurship resources in rural northern Ghana for the government and organisations perceiving entrepreneurship as a development model towards poverty reduction, recognises the barriers, and addresses such deficiencies to guarantee the chances of success of such a programme.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124356887","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Can Entrepreneurship Enable Economic and Social Integration of Refugees? A Comparison of the Economic, Social and Policy Context for Refugee Entrepreneurship in the UK and Germany","authors":"Marilena Schmich, Jay Mitra","doi":"10.1177/23939575221146848","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1177/23939575221146848","url":null,"abstract":"This article examines critically the support systems necessary for economic integration of refugees by analysing the economic, social and policy context of refugee entrepreneurship in Germany and the UK. Current economic integration policies in both countries focus primarily on assisting refugees to find employment while appearing to neglect the value of refugee entrepreneurship as a viable option for integrating refugees into the destination country’s economy. Assuming economic integration of refugees is a fundamental socio-economic goal in both countries, our aim was to examine the challenges that could be addressed with regard to future policies for targeting refugee entrepreneurship and augmenting both entrepreneurship development and entrepreneurial policy formulation in host societies. We introduce a theoretical framework building on Wauters and Lambrecht (2008, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, 34(6), 895–915) and use inductive thematic analysis (Guest et al., 2013, Collecting qualitative data: A field manual for applied research) to examine which variables impact refugees. We identify how regulations, measures and policies in different environments affect those variables. We also examine the concept of mixed embeddedness (Kloosterman et al., 1999, International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, 23(2), 252–266), and its appropriateness for understanding the emergent entrepreneurial activity of refugees and the support systems that can aid opportunity-based integration. Our findings show that first, the most common challenges refugee entrepreneurs encounter are (a) seed capital, (b) language barriers, (c) location, (d) embeddedness and (e) knowledge about the local market. Second, there are no significant differences in the challenges that refugee entrepreneurs encounter, between the UK and Germany. Third, we also find that the support system for refugee entrepreneurs is larger in Germany than in the UK due to the capacity of government and civil society support. We conclude that combating downward occupational mobility, and fully using the potential and expertise of refugees, refugee entrepreneurship could be considered as a viable option for economic integration because refugee communities offer unique opportunities for potentially expanding the scope and style of entrepreneurship in host countries.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121678898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study selects the most relevant variables categorised as the Ease of Doing Business Index (EODBI), institutional indicators and macroeconomic variables. The EODBI has been introduced for the first time in the venture capital literature, intending to capture the business environment of India. Three regression models with three different dependent variables report the ambiguous results for domestic venture capital funds (DVCF), foreign venture capital investments and total venture capital investments. The individual measure EODB, representing the overall rating of doing business in India, is not favourable for domestic funds but favours foreign investors. Enforcing contracts and trading across borders respond positively to DVCF, while registered property moves differently. Resolving insolvency positively affects all three types of investments, benefiting young investors and young entrepreneurs by exploiting venture capital. This study can be refined in several ways in terms of future research, but the biggest challenge will be collecting enough data to derive meaningful results.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122047177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article evaluates one of the key technologies, the fuel cells that can abate the global emissions of the highest emitting sectors, the transport and power industry. The article compares the fuel cells to incumbent technologies in terms of cost competitiveness, maturity, infrastructure availability, economic barriers in deployment at scale and the public policies for decarbonisation. The global energy demand is expected to increase almost 50% by 2050. If the emissions remain unabated the levels are expected to be doubled when compared to preindustrial levels, and a 35% increase to present emission levels which would result in an increase in global temp of 4.5°C–5.7°C.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126480490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article reviews the literature on the HR and talent management practices and concepts of larger business firms and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The challenges faced by the talent acquisition team have been changing invariably throughout industrial development. In this context, the individuals search for stability and recognition in the organization, and the organizations search for talent, retention and consistent performance. The study attempts to identify the reasons for attrition and importance of sustainable HR practices such as talent management and its business alignment, with particular reference to SMEs. It carries out descriptive and exploratory research. The study highlights the reasons for the increased attrition rate in SMEs compared to the larger firms that follow better, affordable talent management practices. Secondary data from several government websites and survey reports have been used for the study.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130847797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through semi-structured interviews, we explored the role social media plays in the businesses of eight Tunisian digital women entrepreneurs. As a part of the Middle East and North Africa region, Tunisia was an interesting context of study characterised by an interesting presence of women in all fields, especially in entrepreneurship. And yet the number of studies carried out in this context on this effect remains limited despite the high adoption rates of social media platforms. Going from the theoretical approach to data analysis, the findings show that social media helped women entrepreneurs meeting the challenge of entrepreneurship and impacted their professional lives positively.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134361869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
