Further, recent transnational skilled entrepreneurs have been understood as being much more mobile in building international networks and collaborations between their home and host societies. These studies have tended to focus on the technically oriented entrepreneurs and to produce a single grand narrative about a particular migrant group that transfers knowledge and becomes a technical pioneer in their home society. This article scrutinises a group of first-generation Korean American female transnational entrepreneurs (FTEs) living in Silicon Valley and builds a nuanced understanding about the diversity and complexity of being transnational entrepreneurs. Through a multi-layered qualitative approach, the study illustrates that three major mechanisms are at play: 1) the ecosystem of Silicon Valley; 2) the dynamics of gender and ethnicity; and 3) the adoption to live in a transnational social field. These mechanisms shape the motivations, experiences, and performances of Korean American FTEs. This article reveals the contesting ways in which these three mechanisms work simultaneously with each other.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132733431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite its recognition as a clandestine to success, its formation is arduous. It takes lot of effort on the part of corporate managers to identify and indulge into reputation-building activities. Several researchers have found that good corporate governance, socially responsible acts and financial performance lead to good reputation, but the role of research and development (R&D) activities in enhancing firm reputation has garnered less attention till date. The current study is novel as it examines the relevance of expenditure made on R&D activities in an emerging economy like India, where hardly any study has directly deciphered the relation between R&D activities and corporate reputation. The study analyses the impact of R&D activities undertaken by top 500 Indian companies on their reputation which is measured by market capitalisation. The results of multivariate regression analysis of cross-sectional data reveal that the amount spent on R&D activities can be viewed as an investment as it generates a significant positive impact on firm reputation. The findings suggest that stakeholders view R&D-intensive firms favourably.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116096394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first proposition of governance theory asserts that institutions are needed for running entrepreneurship effectively, and this study argues that governance is based on the interrelationships of actors and institutions. The second proposition asserts that both governments and institutions have responsibilities; likewise, this article argues that institutions and entrepreneurships have certain responsibilities for resolving societal and economic problems, although the primary responsibility lies with institutions. The third proposition asserts that collective action exists in conjunction with power struggles between governments and institutions, leading to the argument in this article that although some collective action between institutions is caused by institutional power struggles, entrepreneurships contribute to this power struggle through the requirement of reporting to varying institutions. The fourth proposition asserts that governance relies on self-government of certain actors (but not all), which is supported by the argument in this study that while some entrepreneurships are self-governing, others need more guidance by institutions. This suggests that some entrepreneurships have greater oversight by institutions, which may lead to additional benefits for those entrepreneurships. The final proposition asserts that institutions need to be able to act independently, and this study argues that although there is a high degree of dependence between institutions and entrepreneurships, it is expected that entrepreneurships can complete certain activities without institutional oversight.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"16 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114392865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, little academic attention has been paid to the relationship between them. Besides, only a little attention has been given to the context of organisational transformation. The aim of this research, therefore, is to investigate these issues by testing the hypotheses about the relationship between corporate image and different customer response types (controllability attribution, attitude and relationship commitment) in B2B market under the specific context of organisational transformation in Vietnam’s transition economy. Using the structural equation modelling approach, the research found that corporate image has a strong impact on customer relationship commitment and is influenced by customer controllability attribution as well as attitude towards organisational transformation. This research also remarks the role of controllability attribution by showing that it has influence on both corporate image and customer attitude towards organisational transformation.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"46 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114135455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most manufacturing companies are currently encountering the obligation to react on their rapidly changing network environments. For companies, which are willing to remain competitive and to keep their position in the global business environment, continuous improvement and innovation of production system processes has become a necessity. Lean manufacturing and lean thinking represent meanwhile traditional frameworks for improving the performance for production systems in various industries. But not all production companies succeed with their implementation efforts towards lean manufacturing and performance improvements due to failures in organisational topics, especially at the interfaces within supply chains. Lean start-up theory and its methodologies represent success factors for organisational development paving the way to intrapreneurial and innovation concepts in a lean management influenced by lean thinking. Modern manufacturing concepts which are embracing networked enterprises are emphasising approaches for production in networks. The article investigates the innovation shortcoming in the lean manufacturing framework; organisational development in the context of intrapreneurship in a case study of a modular manufacturing company which is based on a smart and lean production concept. The research is empirically validated by using data samples from a business reengineering project in an internationally operating high-tech manufacturing enterprise from Estonia. The empiric analysis is based on semi-structured expert interview data and secondary data revealing the synergies between lean practice bundles and networked production enterprises in the context of intrapreneurship.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122056590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A vast number of previous studies suggest that every organisation should include culture and managerial effectiveness for sustainable development. To analyse this perspective, the article tries to investigate the relationship between organisational culture and managerial effectiveness in an Indian context. Our study provides a meta-analysis of 30 qualified empirical research articles published between 1967 and 2016. The main sectors were banking, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and education. The meta-analytical approach helps to generalise the relationship between organisational culture and managerial effectiveness. Asymmetry of funnel plots is evaluated using Begg and Mazumdar’s rank correlation and Duval and Tweedie’s trim and fill methods. The results revealed overall combined correlation (r = 0.291) whereas, correlations in excess of 0.3 are rare in this context. The findings suggest that culture and managerial effectiveness are an important factor for organisation sustainability. These relationships indicate a positive relationship between organisational culture and managerial effectiveness. The major limitation of this research study is associated with the unavailability of empirical research papers. We also believe that our findings would have been more assertive if they were tested as hypothetical propositions drawn from the literature and through a consecutive research survey. The organisational culture explored in this study provides some innovative thoughts for building sustainable knowledge culture, particularly in an Indian context. These findings also highlight the importance of organisational culture in fostering managerial effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132153515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
