The case traces how he fought against all odds to take his enterprise to greater heights and deliberates around these questions: What did he do to achieve success in such a short period of time? What was his thought process? How did he grow? What were the main elements of his strategy to have a sustainable enterprise? What were his main hurdles? The case attempts to identify the challenges of social entrepreneurs in emerging economies like India, especially when the required resources are not easily available. Being an entrepreneur and resolving problems can be tough but being in the social space can be even more hard. Nonetheless at a time when the textile industry was caught amongst stiff competition, Go Green created a niche for itself as a textile supplier of organic fabrics. A personal interview of Akhilesh Taparia and a personal visit to his factory gave the authors a complete understanding of the manufacturing and packing process. The primary objective of this case is to understand concepts related to social entrepreneurship and deliberate upon Taparia’s entrepreneurial characteristics, motivations, expertise and effectiveness, and how these supported his company’s growth.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127724700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The role of employee willingness (to go) is explored as a dimension influencing the existing firm staffing practices’ success. By using a Portuguese sample, the study examines whether prior findings in mature economies and consolidated multinational companies can be generalised to peripheral and less-developed international business settings. Five business contexts and 24 expatriate cases were considered to ground empirical analysis. The prevalence of internal recruitment practices, informal and closed systems and staffing criteria, and less established international mobility and staffing experience, suggest the existence of critical differences with the current best-of-breed practices. Study findings indicate that divergent willingness profiles operate as moderating factors of firm propensity to use international work to support expansion goals. A typology of business expatriate willingness profiles (conformist expatriates, trajectory-focused expatriates and disrupted expatriates) is proposed to showcase expatriation assignments as a contemporary socioeconomic heterogenetic condition.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"1229 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133259045","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The researchers have examined the role of social (legitimacy) and personal (personality, competency and financial resources) factors related to an individual’s new venture creation in India. This study utilises the data set of 3,403 Indian respondents from the latest available individual-level data collected by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. Binary logistic regression has been employed to test the study’s proposed hypotheses. The results indicate that constructs related to financial resources, entrepreneurial personality and entrepreneurial competencies significantly predict the individual’s decision to start a new venture. However, in contrast to many previous studies, factors related to social legitimacy (social status and professional attraction) were not significant in determining the start-up decision. Policy implications have been discussed.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122389925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The notion of sustainable development in developing countries, particularly in Africa, has been of interest among scholars, practitioners and policymakers for decades. At the same time, there is increased acknowledgment of indigenous knowledge as an underexploited, yet invaluable source of sustainable development in emerging markets. In such a context, this article examines the constructs of Africapitalism management philosophy and indigenous knowledge. The authors examine diverse ways through which Africapitalism can embed indigenous knowledge systems as a key growth driver for sustainable socio-economic development. In conclusion, we discuss the implications for researchers and policy makers.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122736704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the women’s access to technology and their comfort level lags behind that of men. The present study investigates the role of various tools of ICTs such as mobile phones and computers in supporting women’s entrepreneurship. The study is based on narrative analysis, which was conducted on 20 women entrepreneurs involved in micro businesses of Maharashtra. The sample had a mix of women entrepreneurs; old and young; urban, suburban and rural; married and single. The sample was selected to provide a well-rounded coverage of differing demographic groups and life stages, and different levels of access to technology adoption and usage for business. The present study is an attempt to assess the link between technology adoption and usage by women-owned micro/small enterprises in their businesses. The study extends its contribution to the existing literature by exploring the role of women entrepreneurship arising out of need by technology adoption and accelerating women empowerment in the society.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127867839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It follows an extensive literature review approach to understand the phenomenon. GIs tend to emerge in the informal economy and rural setting, and they tend to face several socio-political–cultural–economic–technological limitations. GIs are the outcome of prevailing disparity and an environment that has not provided enough opportunities for a better standard of living. This study offers a contextual understanding of the GI movement and processes of institutionalisation. The finding suggests that institutionalisation of GIs is the outcome of the grassroots movement, networking, learning processes, acceptance of innovation, and diffusion processes. GIs have emerged as an effective tool developed by uneducated people to solve local problems.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115428688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is a dearth of quantitative literature examining how access to electricity energy affects the growth of small businesses. In this quantitative survey design research, two-stage stratified and convenience sampling techniques were used to sample 50 owner-managers of micro and small enterprises in Kaneshie, Accra. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse the field results. The study found that the national grid electricity supply for the operations of small businesses in Accra is inadequate. An alternative source of electric energy significantly reduces the profit of businesses. The article, therefore, concludes a positive significant relationship between electric access and profitability of small and micro enterprises in Ghana. The study recommends that electricity supply agencies should ensure greater stability in electricity supply. Stakeholders should begin exploring alternative cheaper sources of electricity such as mini-solar panels and backup generators or renewable energy capacity to relieve small business owner-managers from the high cost of electricity.","PeriodicalId":205721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132616008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
