Methods  The data of patients with DKD who had been treated in the First Hospital Affiliated to Henan University of Chinese Medicine from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2021 were retrospectively analyzed through the hospital information management system. The contents of the cases were statistically analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 25 software, and the laws of DKD treatment were summarized. Network pharmacology and molecular docking were used to analyze the action mechanism of high-frequency Chinese herbs in the treatment of DKD. Results  The data of a total of 1,201 patients with DKD were included, involving 72 kinds of TCM syndromes. Nine disease nature elements and six disease location elements were extracted, involving 405 Chinese herbs. The top five high-frequency Chinese herbs were Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), and Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). Thirty kinds of Chinese herbs with the frequency of ≥100 were mainly deficiency-tonifying herbs and blood-activating and stasis-eliminating herbs. The medicinal properties were mainly warm and mild, and the medicinal flavors were sweet and bitter mostly. For the meridian tropism, the main meridian tropism of these herbs is spleen meridian and lung meridian. The clustering method aggregated the 30 commonly used Chinese herbs into six categories. A total of 58 effective active ingredients of high-frequency Chinese herbs and 164 related targets were screened based on the traditional Chinese medicine systems pharmacology database and analysis platform (TCMSP); 1,434 targets of DKD and 90 potential targets of high-frequency Chinese herbs for DKD were obtained. “Active ingredient-potential target” network topology analysis indicated that quercetin, luteolin, 7-O-methylisoxitol, hederagenin, and 4-methylene miltirone were the five core chemical components of high-frequency Chinese herbs in the treatment of DKD. Protein–protein interaction network topology analysis indicated that protein kinase B1, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor, vascular endothelial growth factor A, tumor protein P53 were the core protein targets. Twenty signaling pathways were obtained by Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analysis. Molecular docking showed that luteolin, 4-methylene miltirone, and osthole had strong binding to AKT1. Conclusion  The differentiation and treatment of DKD with TCM follows the principles of “taking kidney as the root, considering both the liver and spleen, tonifying qi and nourishing yin, promoting blood circulation and resolving blood stasis.” High-frequency Chinese herbs for the treatment of DKD have multicomponent, multit","PeriodicalId":204577,"journal":{"name":"Chinese medicine and natural products","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117091971","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The clinical application experience of Gegen Qinlian Decoction is as follows: first, according to Zhongjing Zhang's original text, heat distressing the large intestine with unresolved exterior syndrome is the original meaning of Gegen Qinlian Decoction syndrome. In clinical practice, bacillary dysentery, gastrointestinal cold, etc., belong to simultaneous exterior and interior disease, which are completely consistent with the original meaning of this prescription; second, the clinical digestive system diseases with exuberant heat of the large intestine as the core manifestation cannot be treated merely based on the exterior syndrome; third, due to the interior–exterior relationship between the lung and the large intestine and between the meridians, the use of Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) can make the source of body clear, and the waste qi can be released and the pore can be easily opened, so this prescription can also be used for exogenous fever; fourth, with multidimensional comprehensive understanding of the syndrome, pathogenesis, symptoms and pharmacology, Gegen Qinlian Decoction has also been further applied to the treatment of hypertension, diabetes, etc.","PeriodicalId":204577,"journal":{"name":"Chinese medicine and natural products","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122547782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pathogenesis of mammary glands hyperplasia (MGH) is liver and kidney deficiency, disharmony of the thoroughfare vessel and the conception vessel, the causes of which are emotional imbalance, liver qi depression, and failure of transportation due to spleen deficiency. The superficial causes include qi stagnation, phlegm coagulation, and blood stasis, which are mainly related to the liver, spleen, kidney, the thoroughfare vessel, and the conception vessel. In clinical treatment of MGH, Xiaochaihu Decoction or Sini Powder can be used for qi stagnation syndrome, Xiao Xianxiong Decoction for phlegm coagulation syndrome, Guizhi Fuling Pill or Dahuang Zhechong Pill for spleen deficiency syndrome, and Wenjing Decoction for the deficiency-cold syndrome.","PeriodicalId":204577,"journal":{"name":"Chinese medicine and natural products","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127974177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Heidan disease (black jaundice) generally belongs to yin jaundice type, and the pathogenesis is mostly related to blood stasis and dampness stagnation, often with damp-heat residue. According to Zhongjing Zhang, the prescription Xiaoshi Fanshi powder for the treatment of Heidan disease (black jaundice) is based on the understanding that the nature of Heidan disease (black jaundice) is inseparable from the two key pathological factors of dampness and blood stasis. The treatment of jaundice should be based on removing blood stasis and dampness, supplemented by soothing the liver and promoting the transportation function of spleen, removing blood stasis and harmonizing the collaterals, and promoting diuresis and reducing jaundice. In the treatment of jaundice, removing blood stasis and purging turbidity should be stressed, and powerful tonification should be used with caution. Since blood stasis and turbidity are always intermingling and often complicated with damp heat, the method of warm drying should be used with caution. For promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, and dredging the liver-biliary collaterals, drastic medicine should be used with caution.","PeriodicalId":204577,"journal":{"name":"Chinese medicine and natural products","volume":"2361 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130409524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) modalities, especially Chinese herbs, have accumulated rich experience in successfully treating sore throats in both acute and chronic pharyngitis. By sharing a real-world case study of three patients suffering pharyngeal discomfort including sore throat that might be related to the new coronavirus infection and have similar manifestations to general viral-induced pharyngitis, the article systematically presents and summarizes key Chinese herbs for acute and chronic pharyngitis based on TCM herbal prescriptions (principles of herbal formula writing) below: clearing heat and removing toxins, nourishing yin and the throat, loosening the stools and soothing the throat, along with TCM syndrome differentiation or disease differentiation and treatment. Moreover, a modern interpretation of these principles in terms of the relationship between Shanghuo and Fire Rising, which may often be characterized by local redness, swelling, fever, and pain in the mouth or throat along with possible inflammation, and the correspondence between the pharynx and the anus are proposed. Finally, the article will share their experience in applying specific herbs locally via various pharyngeal delivery modalities to improve efficacy including recommended prescriptions for a variety of acute and chronic pharyngitis, as well as those that may be caused by the new coronavirus infection.","PeriodicalId":204577,"journal":{"name":"Chinese medicine and natural products","volume":"02 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129810520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On this theoretical basis, Professor Zheng Yuling created a representative prescription of Zhenjing Anshen Granules which can achieve the co-regulation of the heart, liver, and kidney, tranquilizing the mind and nourishing the blood. Different kinds of Chinese medicine need different drying conditions to fulfill good drying requirements. Natural drying in the shade is one of the traditional drying methods, which takes a long time and is easily affected by the weather. The water volatilizes slowly. It is prone to mildew and discoloration during the drying process. However, it can better preserve the volatile oil components of Chinese medicine. The hot-air drying machine has lower requirements. The medicinal materials have a large heating area and high thermal efficiency, but it is necessary to control the appropriate drying temperature of different medicinal materials in order to preserve the active ingredients of the medicinal materials; it is not suitable for medicinal materials that stick and bind easily. The microwave drying method possesses superiority in drying some valuable medicinal materials such as Renshen (Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng) and Lurong (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum), and the effective ingredients are preserved at a high degree; it can also achieve the purpose of killing enzymes and protecting glycosides and have a good bactericidal effect, but it is not suitable for Chinese medicines containing heat-sensitive ingredients, because it will destroy most of the proteins, amino acids, and peptides of Chinese medicine and result in the loss of efficacy. The far-infrared drying method is suitable for drying thin-layer medicinal materials and is friendly to the environment. Freeze-drying can preserve the active ingredients very well and greatly retain the efficacy, but it has obvious limitations in preserving some Chinese medicinal materials that need to kill enzymes and protect glycosides; besides, the cost is relatively high and the drying time is long.","PeriodicalId":204577,"journal":{"name":"Chinese medicine and natural products","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125907915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
