According to yin-yang syndrome differentiation, the disease can be divided into yin syndrome, yang syndrome, and half-yin and half-yang syndrome. Among them, the theories and treatment of yin syndrome and yang syndrome are relatively comprehensive in Traditional Chinese External Medicine. However, the half-yin and half-yang syndrome lacks a specific theoretical elaboration and treatment system, which is a special and complex syndrome of the disease, limiting the improvement of the clinical efficacy of the disease. The core pathogenesis of GM with half-yin and half-yang syndrome is “obstruction of nutritive and defensive phases, and yin-yang obstruction.” The clinical features are local yin syndrome complicated with yang syndrome, and the disease is lingering and difficult to cure. For syndrome differentiation, it is advisable to “attach more importance to the local while less importance to the whole body.” The treatment should be based on the general principle of “eliminating yin and transforming yang.” For the use of herbs, it is recommended to adopt the methods of “the combination of the herbs in cold and warm nature, mainly with herbs in warm nature, attaching more importance to use the herbs with the function of ascending and less to descending.” Finally, restore the normal circulation of qi and blood as well as the balance of yin and yang to achieve the purpose of treatment.","PeriodicalId":204577,"journal":{"name":"Chinese medicine and natural products","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134995482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are hundreds of millions of bacterium in the intestinal tract. These bacteria live in mutual benefit with the body, provide energy and nutrients for the host and themselves through fermented food, participate in the metabolism of the body, and form a metabolic mode of cometabolism between the host and the symbiotic flora. In addition, intestinal flora can also help the body resist the invasion of pathogens, promote human health, and resist diseases. More and more studies have shown that when the body is subjected to exogenous or endogenous stimuli, the microbial flora in the intestinal will change, and the disturbance of intestinal flora is closely related to the occurrence and development of inflammatory bowel diseases, metabolic diseases, immune system diseases, mental system diseases, and tumors. This article reviews the research progress of the intestinal flora affecting the pathogenesis of various diseases, aiming to provide new references and ideas for the clinical treatment of diseases.","PeriodicalId":204577,"journal":{"name":"Chinese medicine and natural products","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134995481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the concept of combining holism and the local treatment in TCM, idea of combining internal and external treatment is adopted. That is, the external treatment follows the therapeutic principle of using herbs with a bitter and cold nature to eliminate stagnation, and the seven carbon decoction, which can clear heat and dampness, cool the blood, and stop dysentery, is used as a rectal drip to retain the enema. Internal treatment follows the therapeutic principle of warmly tonifying and cultivating vital qi, with oral Chinese herbal medicine named Maodie Tang to strengthen the spleen and tonify the kidney, clearing heat and inducing dampness.","PeriodicalId":204577,"journal":{"name":"Chinese medicine and natural products","volume":"25 1","pages":"e158 - e164"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139354077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method  Studies of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the efficacy of manual therapy in patients with GERD were searched through Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, VIP China Science and Technology Journal Database, China Biology Medicine Database, PubMed, The Cochrane Library, OVID Medline, and Embase. Two researchers independently reviewed the literature, extracted data, and performed a risk of bias analysis using the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool, and conducted meta-analysis analysis and publication bias evaluation, the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) tool 26 was used to rate the caliber of the data in this meta-analysis. Results  This study included 11 RCTs. Meta-analysis showed that the manual therapy group had a higher total effective rate (odds ratio [OR] = 4.63, 95% confidence interval [CI; 3.01, 7.14], p  < 0.00001) and better Reflux Disease Questionnaire scores {weighted mean difference (WMD) = −1.59, 95% CI [−2.85, −0.33], p  = 0.01} than the control group. The subgroup analysis showed significant differences in improving the total effective rate in manual therapy versus Western medicine, manual therapy versus Chinese medicine decoction, manual therapy + Western medicine versus Western medicine, and manual therapy + conventional treatment versus conventional treatment groups. Among the 11 trials, 5 reported adverse events, and all RCTs had the possibility of publication bias. Subgroup analysis shows that the differences in age could significantly influence heterogeneity; The GRADE analysis revealed that the overall quality of evidence for all outcome indicators was low and did not support our recommendation for the outcome. Conclusion  Manual therapy is more effective than medication therapy alone in relieving GERD symptoms. Furthermore, conventional therapy combined with manual therapy was found to be even more effective. Hence, it is crucial to consider these findings when applying manual therapy to GERD patients to enhance treatment outcomes. Future studies must address issues such as study quality, treatment duration, and generalizability.","PeriodicalId":204577,"journal":{"name":"Chinese medicine and natural products","volume":"17 1","pages":"e143 - e157"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139357052","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
