Since the accuracy and efficiency of route guidance depend on the accuracy of the traffic conditions, the route guidance system needs to include more variables in calculation, such as real time traffic flows and allowable vehicle speeds. As variables considered by the route guidance system increase, the cost to compute multiplies. As handheld devices have limited resources, it is not feasible to use them to compute the exact optimal solutions by some well- known algorithm, such as the Dijkstra's algorithm, which is usually used to find the shortest path with a map of reasonable numbers of vertices. To solve this problem, we propose to use the genetic algorithm to alleviate the rising computational cost. We use the genetic algorithm to find the shortest time in driving with diverse scenarios of real traffic conditions and varying vehicle speeds. The effectiveness of the genetic algorithm is clearly demonstrated when applied on a real map of modern city with very large vertex numbers.","PeriodicalId":203066,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (mue 2008)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125672763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a robust scene classification and segmentation approach based on support vector machine (SVM) is presented, which extracts both audio and visual features and analyzes their inter-relations to identify and classify video scenes. Our system works on content from a diverse range of genres by allowing sets of features to be combined and compared automatically without the use of thresholds. With the temporal behaviors of different scene classes, SVM classifier can effectively classify presegmented video clips into one of the predefined scene classes. After identifying scene classes, the scene change boundary can be easily detected. The experimental results show that the proposed system not only improves precision and recall, but also performs better than the other classification systems using the decision tree (DT), K nearest neighbor (K-NN) and neural network (NN).","PeriodicalId":203066,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (mue 2008)","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128083961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although it is not possible to exempt entirely from denial of service or distributed denial of service attacks, we can limit the malicious user by controlling the traffic flow. In the paper, we propose to monitor the traffic pattern in order to alleviate distributed denial of service attacks. A bandwidth allocation policy will be adopted to assign normal users to a high priority queue and suspected attackers to a low priority queue. Simulations conducted in network simulator of our proposed priority queue-based scheme shows its effectiveness in blocking attack traffic while maintaining constant flows for legitimate traffic.","PeriodicalId":203066,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (mue 2008)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130870269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, pure greedy routing does not take account of wireless link condition. This brings out the retransmissions because of received packet's errors. Also, because of these retransmissions, additional power is consumed. In this paper, wireless link condition being considered, we determine the distance dop with which reliable data transmission is made and the consumed energy is minimized, using the geographical routing protocol. Based on the greedy packet forwarding with this distance, energy effective geographical routing considering wireless link condition can be done.","PeriodicalId":203066,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (mue 2008)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131781156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Flash memory is essential in such applications, and one solution for reducing energy consumption is to include a buffer layer in the flash memory storage system. In this paper an approach for abnormal gait detection employing discrete Fourier transform (DFT) analysis has been presented. The joint angle characteristics in frequency domain have been analyzed and using the harmonic coefficients, recognition for abnormal gait has been performed. The experimental results and analysis represent that the proposed algorithm based on DFT can not only reduce the gait data dimensionality effectively, but also lightens the computation cost, with a satisfactory distinction. In order to make the algorithm more generic, a mean square error (MSE) analysis is also presented. Future work will be the expansion of the detection introduced in this system to include abnormality detection instead of just an abnormal or normal detection that would prove to be a valuable addition for use in a variety of applications, including unobtrusive clinical gait analysis, automated surveillance etc.","PeriodicalId":203066,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (mue 2008)","volume":"319 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123199445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lifelog in this study includes several types of media data/information acquired from wearable multi sensors which capture video images, individual's body motions, biological information, location information, and so on. We propose an integrated technique to process the lifelog which is composed of both captured video (called lifelog images) and other sensed data. Our proposed technique is based on two models; i.e., the space-oriented model and the action-oriented model. By using the two modeling techniques, we can analyze the lifelog images to find representative images in video scenes using both the pictorial visual features and the individual's context information, and likewise represent the individual's life experiences in some semantic and structured ways for future efficient retrievals and exploitations. The resulting structured lifelog images were evaluated using the vision- based only approach and the proposed technique. Our proposed integrated technique exhibited better results.","PeriodicalId":203066,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (mue 2008)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116770982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
