Contrary to desktop and Web applications, Ubiquitous applications gather environmental context and provide services without user intervention. In this paper, we propose a message- oriented application model that is capable of modeling both user and system initiative interaction paradigms by N, Ramakrishan, et al (2002). Systems designed based on this model are inherently loosely-coupled and scalable. Results of this research include a systematic development procedure and its supporting middleware. We show the feasibility of this model by constructing several Ubiquitous applications for two dissimilar demo sites, and discuss experiences when adopting this model.","PeriodicalId":203066,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (mue 2008)","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123304056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For nonexpert users, speech recognition is one of the most effective communication tools when it comes to a hands-free (human-robot) interface. This paper describes a new mobile robot with hands-free speech recognition. For a hands- free speech interface, it is important to detect commands for a robot in spontaneous utterances. Our system can understand whether user's utterances are commands for the robot or not, where commands are discriminated from human- human conversations by acoustic features. Then the robot can move according to the user's voice (command). In order to capture the user's voice only, a robust voice detection system with AdaBoost is also described.","PeriodicalId":203066,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (mue 2008)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115050821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All of these products experience fierce competitions from indigenous IT products. Although indigenous IT products provide almost the same function as their international competitors, they dominate the market after passing the phase of imitation. What are the key reasons for their success? In this paper, we compare the detailed designs of MSN vs. QQ. By proposing a conceptual model, we investigate how the different functions of MSN and QQ lead to different users' adoption intention. The conceptual model is not only helpful for researchers who are keen to investigate the factors which affect IT adoption process, but also shed light on how to understand users behavior and grab the market share for practitioners in China.","PeriodicalId":203066,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (mue 2008)","volume":"216 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115517145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even when a user acts the same behavior, its intention may be different according to the user's context. It means that user intention recognition involves the uncertainties, and by minimizing the uncertainties can improve the accuracy of the user intention recognition. This paper suggests a novel ontology-based approach for user intention recognition. We propose a method of minimizing the uncertainties that are the main obstacles against the precise recognition of user intention. This approach creates an ontology for user intention, makes a hierarchy and relationship among user intentions, and precisely recognizes user intention by using the gathered sensor data such as temperature, humidity, vision, and auditory. We developed a simulator that evaluates the performance of robot proactive planning mechanism.","PeriodicalId":203066,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (mue 2008)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116749501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

WSNs has a wide application. But the security of WSNs is still an issue. Traditionally cryptographic mechanisms such as authentication and encryption only address part of the problem of security in WSNs. Recently, the use of reputation and trust systems has become an important mechanism in WSNs. In this paper, we develop a distributed agent-based trust management scheme. The agent node use watchdog mechanism to observe the behavior of the sensor nodes and computes the trust rating for them. We consider packet-dropping and hello flood attack in our simulation, the simulation results and analysis show that our scheme can fast detect the malicious nodes and scale well for wireless sensor networks.","PeriodicalId":203066,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (mue 2008)","volume":"135 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124604060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we are studying about video editing based on audio with a two-channel (stereo) microphone that is standard equipment on video cameras, where the video content is automatically recorded without a cameraman. In order to capture only a talking person on video, a novel voice/non-voice detection algorithm using AdaBoost, which can achieve extremely high detection rates in noisy environments, is used. The main inconvenient is that cellular networks have not the same bandwidth than wired networks and therefore, the cellular channel becomes a network bottle-neck. To help to mitigate this situation and in order to improve the user's experience different optimization techniques exist, especially in web traffic. This paper studies first the existing synergies at HTTP layer between device capabilities expression, content negotiation, channel optimization and content adaptation. And secondly, it presents a system where HTTP requests transmission is optimized, showing a significant improvement in response time by means of HTTP header reduction over the cellular channel. In order to obtain a successful browsing experience, headers should be restored when reaching the Internet. This dynamic header reconstruction allows giving enriched and more expressive information about user's device and browser capabilities. Thus navigation speed and user's QoE can be enhanced by means of dynamic content negotiation in order to obtain adapted (and lighter) content and responses from web servers and adaptation proxies alike.","PeriodicalId":203066,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (mue 2008)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130581145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The frequent sequential traversal patterns are used to predict the user navigation behavior. Furthermore, the hypergraph (HG)-based clustering scheme can help reduce disk access time with proper placement patterns into disk blocks.
