Unit record datasets have interesting properties and contain stories that could engage learners. However, NSOs have legal and ethical duties to protect unit records. To enable access to these stories, Statistics New Zealand has published Synthetic Unit Record Files (SURFs) produced using several methods. With a new SURF based on the New Zealand Income Survey 2011 (NZIS 2011), we enable learners to access a new unit record dataset. Learners have an opportunity to discover and tell the stories about their region or country that are in the actual sample dataset. Learners can experience for themselves interesting aspects, such as: disaggregated data, semi-continuous distributions, and formal classifications. We hope learners will welcome the value of official statistics, as contributors of data and consumers of information from it.","PeriodicalId":202567,"journal":{"name":"Statistics Education for Progress: Youth and Official Statistics Proceedings IASE 2013 Satellite Conference","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115382506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on the assumption that skills to understand and analyze trends in quantitative data are needed to evaluate situations involving civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. For educators, the topic of human rights and statistics involves issues of value clarification, understanding and embracing the principles of human equality and dignity as well as skills for analyzing situations in human rights terms - topics that address the mind and the heart. Moreover, it lets students experience that statistical analyses play a role in understanding the pressing social and political issues of our time.","PeriodicalId":202567,"journal":{"name":"Statistics Education for Progress: Youth and Official Statistics Proceedings IASE 2013 Satellite Conference","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129354170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Information surveys on this subject are mainly performed by institutions which are external to universities or by surveying students, who have become the main assessors. Argentina's Act on higher education, Educación Superior Argentina No 24.521, defines the mandatory status of internal and external assessments on university education quality, on faculty performance and the excellence of the curricula. In the framework of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario, the School of Civil Engineering of the Exact Sciences, Engineering and Surveying College) (Escuela de Ingeniería Civil de la Facultad de Ciencias Exactas, Ingeniería y Agrimensura) has set up a Commission for Curricula Traceability, for which an assessment is in progress.","PeriodicalId":202567,"journal":{"name":"Statistics Education for Progress: Youth and Official Statistics Proceedings IASE 2013 Satellite Conference","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124391220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Smartphones and tablets have impressive functionality, and are becoming ubiquitous. There is an urgent need to create resources that will run on these platforms, so that educators are providing resources that run on the tools that students actually use. This paper illustrates how an extended media mix can broaden the scope of statistics and further education. Two complementary approaches are described. The first approach is tailor- made for desktop applications (repository containing interactive Java) whereas the second one is fully platform-independent (statistics app containing interactive learning objects based on HTLM5, CSS3 and JavaScript). The layout of the learning objects belonging to the statistics app is automatically adapted to the size of the viewing environment (responsive web design). The output of both approaches can be embedded in different educational settings, for example as a complement to face-to-face-lecturing or as a supplement to printed textbooks.","PeriodicalId":202567,"journal":{"name":"Statistics Education for Progress: Youth and Official Statistics Proceedings IASE 2013 Satellite Conference","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132069395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to fulfill the Institute’s mission “to portray Brazil by providing the information required to the understanding of its reality and the exercise of citizenship”, it is not enough to only produce and disseminate geographic and statistical information. In a country such as Brazil, in which the population faces major difficulties in the educational field, the Institute realized it could play an active role as a contributor to people’s qualification so as to enable them to autonomously read and interpret data concerning their reality. Targeted at providing informative material and teaching resources for the pedagogical work based on data produced by the Institute, Vamos Contar was born as an educational project aimed at communication with teachers.","PeriodicalId":202567,"journal":{"name":"Statistics Education for Progress: Youth and Official Statistics Proceedings IASE 2013 Satellite Conference","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133562929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, there is continuing evidence of students’ partial or unsuccessful learning of many aspects of inferential statistics. This is one of the concerns brought to attention in my postgraduate research whereby part of my work involved the development of a hierarchical construct to identify the different levels of students’ learning of inferential statistics. This paper particularly discusses the use of this hierarchical construct to investigate the learning of inferential statistics among students.","PeriodicalId":202567,"journal":{"name":"Statistics Education for Progress: Youth and Official Statistics Proceedings IASE 2013 Satellite Conference","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127292015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is aimed at improving non-tertiary teachers’ professionalism in terms of setting hierarchies and provides training continuously. Teachers having a high level of research capacity can improve and solve education issues in Macau. Education Statistics are one of the important methods in research capacity. To develop this idea, therefore, my topic is “Analysis of variance and Its Applications in Macao Educational Researches”.In this paper a series of statistical methods will be studied, namely, ANOVA, ANCOVA and MANCOVA. They can be used to analyze multivariate data. Knowledge of these techniques will enable researchers to investigate and answer a vast array of research questions. This paper will apply also a real example in educational field in order to explain the manipulation of ANOVA, ANCOVA and MANOVA for data analysis.","PeriodicalId":202567,"journal":{"name":"Statistics Education for Progress: Youth and Official Statistics Proceedings IASE 2013 Satellite Conference","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128700099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The programme is driven by the desire to increase the awareness and effective use of statistics in Ireland. Educating CSO data customers is seen as a key driver in this goal. Since 2007, the CSO has fostered key partnerships at a national and international level to develop and implement a number of key projects. Seminar Series, Statistical Liaison groups, Oireachtas briefings, CensusAtSchool, the John Hooper Medal For Statistics, the Professional Diploma in Official Statistics for Policy Evaluation, the International Statistical Literacy Poster Competition and YouTube video production, are some of the projects developed under the umbrella of the Education Outreach Programme. This paper outlines the rationale behind the development and implementation of the Irish Education Outreach Programme with illustrations drawn from the Irish experience to date.","PeriodicalId":202567,"journal":{"name":"Statistics Education for Progress: Youth and Official Statistics Proceedings IASE 2013 Satellite Conference","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125957651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
