This paper aims to provide a common terminology, and error quantification in such systems. The discussion is aimed at both the user and the manufacturer of such instruments. The main body presents many performance features of modern digital measurement systems and the sources of error. Simple MATLAB/SIMULINK models attempt to simulate digital measurement system components in an intuitive manner. Developing such an understanding will aid in the determination of the required tests and the interpretation of their results. The work is aimed at a better understanding of the nonsinusoidal situation and the measuring problems due to nonsinusoidal conditions. The main part of this work is the development of a solid background using modern simulation tools of one of the main components of the measurement system, namely the data converter, and its requirements and errors. Sample data converter specifications are illustrated based on a sample nonlinear inverter waveform analysis. A new simple low cost topology for a data converter suitable for such an application is also presented and its performance is assessed using simulation. Finally, a comparison between this method and the existing one in TI DSP TMS2407 is made.","PeriodicalId":202482,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2002 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. 37th IAS Annual Meeting (Cat. This paper presents a novel approach for fully decoupling the problematic cross-coupling with estimated parameters from online self-tuning. In the on-line estimation algorithm, the model is formulated such that cross-coupled estimated parameters are eliminated, which improves the parameter estimation robustness. Parameter estimation is further improved by combining the model with a closed loop observer. Cross-coupling terms can then be decoupled using estimated parameters to improve the performance of the current regulator.","PeriodicalId":202482,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2002 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. 37th IAS Annual Meeting (Cat. A new indirect space vector PWM (ISV-PWM) method which reduces the common mode voltage at the output is presented. The proposed method maintains the active voltage vector and distributes zero vector equally within a sampling period and does not increase square RMS of ripple components of input/output current. Advantages of the scheme include : 34% reduction in the common mode voltage (peak value); improved harmonic spectrum; reduced number of switching instants which translate into lower switching losses and simplified implementation via software. Simulation results are shown to demonstrate the advantages of the new PWM approach. Experimental results on a 230 V, 3 kVA matrix converter fed adjustable speed drives based on DSP controller are presented.","PeriodicalId":202482,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2002 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. 37th IAS Annual Meeting (Cat. The basic idea, however, can be extended to a system with N modules and other multi-phase converters. All of the control schemes are developed in a synchronous frame and each of the closed-loop power-converter modules operates asynchronously without any communication with the other module. The control schemes stabilize the currents on the dq axes and limit the zero-axis disturbance by preventing the flow of the pure-zero sequence current. One of the control schemes is developed purely in the discrete domain. It combines the space-vector modulation scheme with a variable-structure control, thereby keeping the switching frequency constant and achieving satisfactory factory dynamic performance. The performances of the other control schemes are also satisfactory.","PeriodicalId":202482,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2002 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. 37th IAS Annual Meeting (Cat. The described converter employs a low profile high frequency transformer and two active full-bridge converters for bidirectional power flow capability. A new soft switching technique is proposed, which guarantees soft switching over wide range (no load to full load) without any additional circuit components. In the proposed switching scheme, the switch pairs in the diagonal position of the converter each are turned on/off simultaneously by the switching signals with a variable duty ratio depending on the phase shift amount, and the converter is operated without freewheeling interval. The load range for soft switching is analyzed mathematically and verified by experiments.","PeriodicalId":202482,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2002 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. 37th IAS Annual Meeting (Cat.
