This paper presents a novel approach for fully decoupling the problematic cross-coupling with estimated parameters from online self-tuning. In the on-line estimation algorithm, the model is formulated such that cross-coupled estimated parameters are eliminated, which improves the parameter estimation robustness. Parameter estimation is further improved by combining the model with a closed loop observer.
