A prototype of a stretching device that could be integrated into AFM for the tensile drawing of polymer at different temperatures including low temperature was constructed. As a trial sample for testing the prototype of low temperature stretching device nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) was selected. The strain-induced morphological changes of neat NBR and NBR with plasticiser were studied. Poisson's ratio and average surface microroughness at different temperatures and strains are measured.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"63 1","pages":"472 - 479"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74479825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The morphology and microstructures of the composites were characterised by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electrical microscope (TEM). The segregated network leads to a low gas permeability coefficient for BIIR composites. With the incorporation as low as 0.4 wt-% GTA-GO, the helium permeability coefficient decreased about 63% when compared with that of neat BIIR. The tensile strength and percentage elongation increased with an increase in the GTA-GO content. This is attributed to the complete exfoliation, uniform dispersion and the segregated structure of GTA-GO in the BIIR matrix. These results demonstrate that such electrostatic self-assembly method between latex and sheet-fillers is an effective strategy to design and produce polymeric nanocomposites with good gas barrier properties. The results will effectively promote the application of barrier polymer in the production of protective clothing, gas storage devices and coatings.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"47 1","pages":"363 - 371"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80052004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results showed that, in tensile tests, the Young's modulus of CNR/graphene was greater than that of CNR/CNT, while in pull-out simulation tests, the interfacial shear strength of CNR/graphene was smaller than that of CNR/CNT. In thermal stability tests, both CNT and graphene made the CNR dehydrochlorination reaction rate constant larger, with the thermal stability of CNR/graphene better than that of CNR/CNT. The performance change trends of the two composites were calculated using DFT and the experimental results were consistent with these trends.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"2 1","pages":"463 - 471"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82578087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Textile air conditioner dust occurs during the spinning process of staple fibres. It consists of cotton fibre impurities as boll, leaf, and short fibres that generate a vast environmental load. This dust is used as a filler and dispersed in polyurethane up to 40% wt. The cell -size of foams decreased and cell -density increased by the increase in filler ratios in which the dust acted as a heterogeneous nucleation site during cell formation. The dust agglomerated in polyurethane foam and induced irregular cell wall and hence non-uniform cell formation and many broken cells. The flexural strength and modulus decreased in higher dust content (40% wt.). The lower thermal insulation of cellulose-based dust and damaged structure/uniformity of foam cells resulted in an unstable/lower thermal conductivity of dust-filled polyurethane rigid foam composites.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"15 1","pages":"352 - 362"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89511469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The chitosan content has been varied between 0 and 15 phr. NBR was initially loaded with chitosan using a two-roll mixing mill along with compounding agents and then cured by compression moulding using accelerated sulphur vulcanisation strategy. The results indicate that the mechanical properties of NBR increase at a critical loading of chitosan (12 phr). A new Chitosan Efficacy Index has been proposed to understand the effect of chitosan loading on overall mechanical properties. Morphological examinations by using scanning electron microscopy pointed towards the presence of voids and discontinuities within the fractured surfaces of the composites. Thermogravimetric analysis and water absorption studies have also been carried out to complement the results from the investigation of mechanical properties.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"19 1","pages":"343 - 351"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89385837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some kinds of YPS particles with different size were used as additives for the composites, in which, the YPS particles having size lower than 10 µm (L4 particle sample) were the most suitable additive for the composites based on HDPE. Thanks to the good dispersion of L4 particles in HDPE matrix, properties of HDPE/L4 composites such as mechanical, electrical and thermal properties, as well as flame resistance of HDPE/L4 composites were significantly improved. The HDPEL4 composite containing 5 wt.% of L4 particles had high tensile strength and elongation at break, regular structure, high thermal stability and good fire resistance. The co-continuous morphology became finer with OMMT, NOR and OMMT/NOR inclusion. The result of rheological study revealed that the polymer blend and the NOR loaded composite possess liquid-like, whereas the OMMT composites represent solid-like behavior. Moreover, in OMMT loaded composite, a G’ and G” crossover in low frequency range appeared due to formation of network-like structure between OMMT layers. Thermogravimetric analysis corroborated the concurrent inclusion of OMMT and NOR in nitrogen atmosphere decreases To by 2%, increases the T max1 by 0.9% and increases T max2 by 2% comparing the blended composition. Three types of lignin, namely, Kraft lignin (KL), organosolv lignin (OL) and soda lignin (SL) were incorporated into rubber matrix at the filler loadings of 5–20 phr, where the total filler content was fixed at 50 phr. Based on the performance of the three types of lignin, the KL and OL-filled NR/BR composites showed better properties compared to SL-filled NR/BR composite. However, the inclusion of KL up to a loading of 10 phr in the rubber matrix showed comparable results with those of the NR/BR/CB50 (without lignin). It was observed that the minimum and maximum torque (ML and MH, respectively) of the composite with KL were improved. Furthermore, the incorporation of lignin in the NR/BR matrix reduced the Payne effect and enhanced their processability, thermal stability and aging resistance.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"6 1","pages":"293 - 305"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81392540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
