Bike-share datasets describe how shared bicycles are used in an urban environment. They vary considerably in composition and coverage but typically include information such as the locations (bicycle racks) of origin and destination, timestamps, and identifiers for bicycles and riders. This paper provides methods for visualizing such data in a manner that distills useful patterns and for using the data to predict usage. In order to overcome the difficulty in generating meaningful clusters using conventional methods, it presents a novel method of clustering that uses graph condensations. It describes an experimental study of these methods using a publicly available dataset from a popular bike-share program. Results include the encouraging visualizations using graph condensations, significant benefits of some computed features such as trip durations, and some insights for planning related to periodicity and the effects of a pandemic such as COVID-19.","PeriodicalId":201808,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121407085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They not only lead to massive damage in terms of financial and reputation losses, but can also create high risk in the compromise of system safety and integrity. Our previous work shows the possibility of achieving the decentralized runtime verification by incorporating some mechanisms of the blockchain technology into a distributed system for locating the accountability when error occurs. In this paper, we propose to develop a verification framework based on blockchain technology to detect the abnormalities of counterfeit ICs at every stage of their lifecycles, including after being deployed into the system. We design an efficient and effective method that can store the inspection and testing results into a blockchain, and apply the smart marker scheme which can merge separate blockchains associated with individual ICs into one blockchain after the ICs are installed onto the same system.","PeriodicalId":201808,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116188601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, these cities use technologies that involve the areas of the Internet of Things, Big Data, and Governance to make decisions by governments and authorities. In the field of Urban Computing, it is possible to use open data in the GTFS format to solve the problems of the urban transport system using complex network metrics that make it possible to model complex interactions between objects in high dimensionality. Stops and routes are modeled as a graph, characterized by complex network metrics. According to the literature, if there is an interruption of the urban transport system, we make an evaluation of the degree of vulnerability of the system in the search for solutions. The main goal of this paper is to propose an approach to analyze the vulnerability of the urban transport system using complex network metrics along with GTFS data in scenarios targeted failures. As a contribution, the proposed approach uses the concept of skewness in the methodology established in the literature. The skewness enables a better understanding and differential the failure conditions from the evaluation of the vulnerability the urban transport system, through a quantitative indication of which local metrics most influence the decay of network metrics. The analysis of the results obtained in the proposed approach serves as a subsidy for studies in the search for solutions to the problems of the urban transport system, providing a tool to the set of technological options for the planning of urban transport systems of smart cities available to governments and authorities. The proposed approach can be applied in different cities, regardless of their size and location, as long as you have access to open geographic data in the GTFS format.","PeriodicalId":201808,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125123782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are looking to avoid food waste where Smart Cities must work. Food waste requires innovation with technology to change consumer's behaviors, efficient supply chain management, and innovative food production systems not to harm the environment. Among the economic impact, water and carbon footprint affects vital performance indicators into a Smart City. Hence, this work considers water and carbon footprint, as well as economic impact. We contribute to the Smart Cities, providing a multi-Agent simulation able to be scaled with an ontology with the purpose to plot different scenarios to stakeholders in a Smart City and help to avoid food waste situations. To simplify the simulation, as preliminary work, we used a typical food in Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, which is a Taco. The model covers a community in the Zapopan Municipality, where a developed urban study is the first proof of the system's concept. Furthermore, based on the simulation scenarios fed with real, local data, we discussed how we can integrate this multi-agent platform to face COVID-19. Finally, we want to help family businesses on the food supply chain using information technologies and applying digital processes to better adapt to new operation rules since COVID-19 to fight food waste since COVID-19.","PeriodicalId":201808,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125241158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is unclear how different vehicle dispatching rules affect drivers’ income and satisfy passengers’ ride requests in E-hailing services. Based on the GPS trajectory and trip data of more than 1,000 taxis from Chengdu city, this paper simulates 3 different vehicle dispatching rules in e-hailing situation, and compares their performances in terms of 3 indicators, including the mean and difference of hourly incomes of all drivers, and satisfaction rate of service requests. The comparison experiments show that (1) comparing with the results based on real street-hailing data, the difference in drivers' income are significantly reduced under 3 dispatching rules in e-haling service; (2) the rule of high-valued dispatching leads to the lowest difference in drivers’ income and lowest average hourly income, (3) the rule of low-congested dispatching leads to the highest average hourly income and highest difference, and (4) the rule of nearest dispatching leads to a more balanced performance in all indicators.","PeriodicalId":201808,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"153 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114211214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kilobits of bandwidth to the home and smart business became available in the 1970s via dial-up. Two decades after that in the 1990s, megabits became available via cable modem. Another two decades introduced gigabit to the home and small business in the 2010s. Gigabit networking to the home and small business has created a gigabit frontier of new applications. Gigabit has changed the game for applications delivered to homes and small businesses in three fundamental ways: increased flow size, reduced response times, and ability to accommodate multiple segregated flows of differential Quality of Experience. Examples of US Ignite gigabit applications and services deployed within the 30 US Ignite Smart Gigabit Communities are discussed. The COVID-19 pandemic adds additional rationale for gigabit networking. Future applications for gigabit applications that may arrive later in the 2020s are discussed. Academics are beginning to experiment with terabit networking which appears to be on-schedule for deployment to homes and small businesses in the 2030s.","PeriodicalId":201808,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"155-156 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114384788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With this in mind, the combination of information technology and sensors capable of capturing and sharing energy data with other devices can help solve power consumption problems. However, large volumes of these data are collected and stored uninterrupted, becoming a challenge to analyze it to confirm trends, identify hidden patterns, and outliers to aid in decision-making. As an alternative to address the issue, this paper presents an interactive visual analytics system to understand energy data coming from a smart building or city. This system provides ways to analyze the data at different levels of time granularities for the identification of energy trends, patterns, and data outliers. Moreover, it combines different algorithms that allow fulfilling predictive analysis. An analysis with domain experts demonstrates the feasibility and advantages of using the system to monitor energy data.","PeriodicalId":201808,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134332894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a two-step condition-based maintenance model for wind turbines is proposed. In the first stage, the so-called diagnostic stage, the normal behavior of these components was estimated through a tailor-made artificial neural network. In the second stage, the prognosis stage, the deviation of the real-time measurement data from the estimated values was calculated. If the deviation increases beyond a confidence band, an alarm is triggered and a proposed risk indicator is updated. By increasing the proposed risk indicator, the corresponding anomaly is detected and condition-based maintenance programs can be planned. The effectiveness of the model is demonstrated using real data from an offshore wind farm in Germany. By implementing the proposed model using this real-world data, it is shown that the proposed risk indicator is fully consistent with the upcoming wind turbine failures.","PeriodicalId":201808,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114729463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Italy was one of the first nations to be affected by the pandemic, especially in the heart of its production system and in the most densely populated area: the Lombardy Region. Starting in February 2020, there was a progressive slowdown until a total lockdown that paralyzed almost all social and economic activities, until a partial resumption of normal activities in May and a further increase in mid-June. The study was motivated by the fact that the electricity demand strongly decreased and changed in its typical characteristics, introducing new critical issues in the system at both the transmission and distribution levels. The goal was to analyze the strong impact of this changes on the distribution network and the transmission grid, focusing on the distribution network of Milan during the whole period. The results provide a useful example of the effects of such a pandemic and can constitute a reference valid also for many other big cities in the world.","PeriodicalId":201808,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130382271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Usually, IoT-based smart city applications operate in isolation, leading to a fragmented IoT landscape that hinders the managements of the IoT systems in an integrated way. Thus, it is required the involvement of city authorities to structure and organize city-wide interventions among the different IoT systems/applications; but also it is needed the infrastructure and technology that allow these city-wide interventions between the different levels of government (from upper tier authorities to down tier) for the proper management of heterogeneous IoT systems deployed within a Smart City by public as well as private entities. In this paper we propose an infrastructure for the Smart Governance of heterogeneous IoT solutions within Smart Cities, which provides useful features such as the spread of power, security constraints and scalability, among others. The infrastructure is described through 1) a new architectural model, as an adapted version of the basic architectural model, 2) the use of Digital Objects as crucial artifacts to represent, store and interact with physical and digital elements and 3) the use of open-source technology to implements the architectural model and supports the management of the Digital Objects.","PeriodicalId":201808,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128322838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
