Byalt et Firsov var. nova is described. It was found in the gorge of the Kyzgych River in Teberdinsky State Natural Biosphere Reserve in Karachay-Cherkess Republic. It is well distinguished from F. orientalis var. orientalis by pointed leaves with 8–10 well developed pointed teeth on margin. The leaf margins in the type variety are entire and slightly wavy, sometimes crenate, rarely (especially in Transcaucasia) slightly dentate-crenate.","PeriodicalId":201309,"journal":{"name":"Novitates Systematicae Plantarum Vascularium","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125187829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Madagascan Salicornioideae (samphires) are still insufficiently studied. Salicornia pachystachya described from Madagascar had a turbulent nomenclatural and morphological history, frequently considered as Arthrocnemum pachystachyum due to the alleged similarity of the seed characters with other Arthrocnemum species, or considered in a broader sense including the related Salicornia perrieri. However, the reproductive features of S. pachystachya confirm its placement within Salicornia, and the thick inflorescences and longer seeds distinguish it from S. perrieri, another native Madagascan species. Two other members of Salicornioideae in Madagascar are the subshrubby Salicornia mossambicensis, erroneously named S. fruticosa or Arthrocnemum natalense, and Tecticornia indica. Herein, a diagnostic key is provided for the delimitation of four samphire species in Madagascar, and the lectotypes of Salicornia pachystachya and S. perrieri are designated. Only two species, S. pachystachya and Tecticornia indica, are recorded for Europa Island, and their habitat preferences in this location are presented, as well as a discussion of the species composition and chorology of samphires in continental Africa.","PeriodicalId":201309,"journal":{"name":"Novitates Systematicae Plantarum Vascularium","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116513678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The «forgotten» species O. bargusinica Korotky was separated from O. glandulosa Turcz. and reinstated as a distinct one. An endemic of the Barguzinsky Ridge, O. interposita Sipl. previously considered in the section Verticillares DC., is transferred to the section Polyadena; its new variety O. interposita var. lilacina Chimitov is described. The taxonomic status of O. stukowii Palib. and O. varlakovii Serg., both described from Eastern Transbaikalia, has been revised. Both are proposed to be treated as subspecies within more widespread O. microphylla (Pall.) DC. and O. muricata (Pall.) DC., respectively. The names O. bargusinica, O. varlakovii (lectotype II), O. glandulosa, and O. stukowii are typified (the lectotypes of the latter two are designated here by V. V. Byalt). As a result, 7 taxa of specific and subspecific rank in the section Polyadena are distinguished in the flora of the Baikal Siberia.","PeriodicalId":201309,"journal":{"name":"Novitates Systematicae Plantarum Vascularium","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130681711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
