The electromagnetic design for both magnetically coupled and decoupled configurations are described. Considering the complex structure of a MGPM machine, special attention is also paid to the mechanical design aspects. The optimized results show that a torque density in excess of 100 kNm/m3 could be achieved for the active gear part. However, owing to excessive losses in the low speed rotor, the prototype exhibited inferior performance. The design related aspects and issues are analyzed and discussed in detail in an attempt to outline problem areas in the design process. Relevant recommendations are also given for future design improvements.","PeriodicalId":199911,"journal":{"name":"4th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128081733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, OFDM systems are extremely sensitive to synchronization deviation. Slight synchronization deviation can affect the performance of OFDM systems. This paper presents a design and implementation synchronization algorithm based on constant amplitude zero auto-correlation (CAZAC) for power line communication. Matlab simulation prove that, with less computation, the proposed algorithm can complete symbol timing synchronization and frequency offset synchronization well and the performance of OFDM synchronization in power line communication is significantly improved.","PeriodicalId":199911,"journal":{"name":"4th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"06 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127256354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Under phase(s) loss, the machine currents can be optimally controlled to satisfy certain optimization criteria. In this paper, a vector control scheme to a five-phase induction machine is introduced to ensure equal phase currents and minimum torque ripples under a phase open circuit. The controller idea can be extended to any number of phases with any number of open phases. The fundamental dq components of the stator voltage are obtained using only two PI controllers for the fundamental sequence plane, as in conventional vector control of three-phase machines. Based on steady state model, a simple expression is derived to estimate the required dq voltage components of other sequence planes to ensure equal stator phase currents and minimum torque ripple. A five-phase machine is simulated using Matlab/Simulink to ensure controller validity.","PeriodicalId":199911,"journal":{"name":"4th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126559274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hydro power plants equipped with pumping systems, in addition to the flexible operation, allows the storage of excess wind power in the form of water, pumping it to their upper reservoirs. In this paper, the technical feasibility of coordinating two hydro pumping plants with the wind power installed capacity in Portugal is assessed through a dedicated model. The objective is to maintain constant, throughout the year, the power output of this aggregate at a target value. Historical records of the power production and demand as seen from different points of the transmission grid constitute the background for the simulations. The results obtained show that the continuous supply of the target power throughout the year depends largely on the established target value itself, on the values of the installed capacity of each technology (wind and hydro), as well as on the storage capacity of both reservoirs of the hydro pumping plants.","PeriodicalId":199911,"journal":{"name":"4th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124937748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A key shortcoming of renewable energy is the issue of intermittency which can pose a risk to the security of energy supply. Energy storage thus becomes essential in order to address the mismatch between energy demand and supply. The utilization of Wind-Hydrogen (WH) energy storage systems and Fuel Cells provides a viable solution. This paper presents a technical evaluation of Wind Hydrogen (WH) Demonstration projects in Europe; the scope of evaluation includes a comparative analysis of: design criteria, operation and energy management together with technical challenges. It is argued that Renewable Hydrogen and Fuel cell Energy systems require more efficient electrolyzers and better energy management systems and that lab-scale testing is essential in order to inform the development of future demonstration projects.","PeriodicalId":199911,"journal":{"name":"4th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"218 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124316427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The construction of dynamic behavior model is done in two steps. In the first step, the fuzzy membership functions in the rule antecedents are determined. In the second step, the parameters of the consequent functions are estimated by means of standard linear least squares methods. The partition coefficient and the classification entropy indices are used for validation of clusters number. Very accurate prediction of dynamic hysteresis loops is observed, proving that the clustering technique is suitable for hysteresis modeling.","PeriodicalId":199911,"journal":{"name":"4th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123497599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to have an efficient energy transfer among variable converter components, special control techniques of the converter must be considered to diminish switching losses. The presented LLC resonant converter is controlled under soft-switching conditions with respect to the different input voltages and load conditions. Furthermore, to decrease the battery charging time, constant current and constant voltage control methods are used. The design of the DC/DC resonant converter which outputs 60 V / 20 A with an input of 240 V is simulated delivering 1.2 kW. The simulation results show that PLL control technique makes the input current and the input voltage in phase under different output load and input voltage conditions.","PeriodicalId":199911,"journal":{"name":"4th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122740066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A typical example of VAS: when a mobile user is willing to know weather forecast so he or she get into an application stored inside the SIM card, prompted to input the city of interest and get information provided by some server. This kind of services obviously generates an additional Average Revenue Per User ARPU. In this paper we will discuss how VAS is implemented, we will also make a discussion on Enhanced short message service ESMS as a key element for the remote management of SIM cards i.e. sending a specific command to SIM cards to do configurations and creating and managing VAS applications remotely. We will see how SIM cards can perform a proactive commands for the mobile equipments and become no more slaves to them. Here, the term SLAVE means the logic relationship of master-slave where in older GSM services, the SIM cards main function is to respond to the commands given by the mobile equipment with simple data. These commands called Application Data programming Units or ADPU commands.","PeriodicalId":199911,"journal":{"name":"4th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121559523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
