This paper presents a general approach for the electro-magnetic design of a PMSynRM. Essential design rules for constructing a PMSynRM are shown. In particular the rotor configuration is improved by dimensioning of the bridges between flux barriers and air gap. An interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM) with two layers which form the flux barriers in the rotor is used as reference. The results are concluded in an objective function.","PeriodicalId":199452,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131865078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Limiting current distortion to levels recommended in IEEE 519-1992 improves system efficiency, increases reliability, and limits voltage distortion that can adversely influence sensitive loads. This paper revisits a non regenerative active front end system that has been studied in the past but offers significant improvements to make it acceptable to the drives industry. A three-phase current injecting inductor, required in the topology, is constructed in a five limb fashion and is shown to be helpful in limiting non characteristic harmonics. Since the current injected into the split dc bus capacitor is a 360Hz ripple, it is proposed that the main dc bus capacitor be split into film capacitor for ripple current and optimally reduced electrolytic capacitor for the main energy storage requirements. Experimental results are given based on the suggested improvement and low distortion levels that were not achieved in the past have been shown to be attainable. Comparison between a standard three-limb inductor and a five-limb inductor is made to highlight the performance improvements achievable. Adoption of the topology for common dc bus applications is also proposed.","PeriodicalId":199452,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115657983","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Medium-to-high speed, partial torque operation is typical for duty cycle loads, such as in the case of the electric vehicle. VF machines can reduce losses in these operating conditions by reducing the internal magnetization state of the magnet, thereby reducing flux linkage associated with flux produced by the magnet. In this paper, VF machines with large normalized permanent magnet flux linkage which are in the highly salient, flux intensified (FI) machine design space (VFI-IPMs) are shown to have large maximum torque, rated power, inverter utilization, and constant power speed ratio (CPSR) as well as low losses in the low torque region over a wide speed range when compared to conventional fixed magnet flux PMSMs.","PeriodicalId":199452,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115780195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such single point measurements of machine parameters are quite often inadequate for estimating motor performances in particular torque ripple under loaded condition for low torque ripple applications. In addition, the effect of armature reaction as the load increases introduces further inaccuracies for generating appropriate control commands. This research is directed to understand the behavior of the machine under loading condition and treat the no-load condition as a special case where the current in the motor is zero. The findings will be extended to explain the harmonic contents in induced voltage, inductive reactance and the overall effect on electromagnetic torque. The theoretical findings are supported by test results.","PeriodicalId":199452,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117200638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nano-CHP is an energy-efficient technology that simultaneously provides heat and electricity to households. An electrical machine (EM) connected to internal combustion engine (ICE) is principally used to produce the electricity. The conventional ICE during the combustion process produces an oscillating torque which affects the vibration and the noise of the system and also reduces the power train life time. The new opportunity for electric drive is to reduce the speed pulsation using the EM which is controlled as active torque damping by applying an inverse torque sequence to crankshaft. In this paper different torque damping techniques have been analyzed with the aim to find the better solution; the investigated techniques have been taken from researches in the field of hybrid electric vehicles. In order to better understand the torque engine oscillation phenomena an effective ICE model has been realized. It allows to find out by simulations the best available technique. The ICE model and simulation analysis predict the system performance, that has been validated by experimental test carried out on a dedicated laboratory test bench composed by a real ICE connected to EM.","PeriodicalId":199452,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116408535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to overcome the critical issues of the batteries on EV introduction, we introduce the new concept of EV charging method, called On-Line Electric Vehicle (OLEV®). This technology utilizes the inductive power transmission principle, so that the EV can be charged while the vehicle is in motion or stationary. In this paper the brief operating method on the OLEV® is introduced. Like other EV applications, the vehicle requires to have properly designed heating, cooling, and air-conditioning system. Also minimizing the power consumption of the power electronics inside the vehicle, and meeting customers' perspective on the cooling and heating performance is important, and thus it is necessary develop a proper sets of dynamic models and control algorithms for Heating Ventilation Air-Conditioning (HVAC) linked together with the other required system operation, such as the power drive and wireless charging on this system. Based on the operation conditions, an intelligent control algorithm of HVAC system is developed considering important parameters such as dynamic power supply condition from the powered road, pick up power capacity and battery state of charge (SOC) level in view of driving distance. Hierarchical algorithmic decision process of heating and cooling operation based upon the available energy storage within the vehicle, instantaneous and accumulated on-road power supply, and controlling the air conditioning compressor speed, is developed and discussed in order to maximize the customers' satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":199452,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123724864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The machine prototype presented in this paper overcomes several limitations of previously presented high-speed magnetically-levitated electrical drive systems. Linear bearing characteristics result from the slotless design, which enables applying linear state feedback control without linearization of bearing actuators. A multivariable rotor position control scheme is proposed and its controller performance is analyzed in details. The implemented control scheme proved to perform well in practice, stabilizing the system over the design speed range of the motor with a single set of controller parameters. Measurements of the motor spinning at 500000 revolutions per minute (rpm) verify the functionality of the overall system. To the authors' knowledge, this is the highest speed achieved by magnetically-levitated electrical drive systems so far.","PeriodicalId":199452,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122126367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By the assistances of these attachments along with proper controls on the magnetic and electric field paths inside the vacuum chamber, results indicated that more target atoms can be sputtered and smoother depositions on the substrate surface can be achieved. Based on appropriate performance index selections, operations of the DC MS were thoroughly investigated. Selected regions on the deposited substrate surface will be probed with thickness gauge and atomic force microscopy, thus the operational performances of the DC MS with structural refinements can be assessed and the desired improvements can then be systematically validated.","PeriodicalId":199452,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127202555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A mathematical model that includes magnetic saturation is used to represent the reluctance generator, which is driven by an asymmetric half bridge converter. Output generated voltage is smoothed with a shunt capacitor leading to a DC link voltage. This voltage is regulated using a PI compensator that governs the magnetizing angle of the generator phases. It is shown that introducing a freewheeling stage between the magnetizing and the demagnetizing states of each phase, allows for a better usage of mechanical power in the electromechanical conversion process. Injection of active power in the grid is performed by a current controlled PWM inverter synchronized by phase locked loop. The complete system is simulated and the results are shown and discussed. The feasibility of the proposed strategy is demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":199452,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130145589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
