The number density of the carbon particles and their sizedistribution down to approx. 200nm were estimated. From these results and further in considering the balance between the total mass of the carbon particles and the laser energy used for the ablation, two different mechanisms of particle formation are suggested. One mechanism is the strip-off of the particles directly from the graphite surface via ablation and the other is the growth to the particles from gaseous carbonaceous materials through a cluster stage.","PeriodicalId":199016,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Spectroscopical Society of Japan","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133103875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experimental lifetimes of two 2p53p and seven 2p53d levels have been obtained. Decay curves of 3p levels have been analyzed by using the ANDC (Arbitrary Normalized Decay Curve) method taking into account the cascade transitions and those of 3d levels have been done by multiexponential fitting. The results are compared with another experimental data set and some theoretical values.","PeriodicalId":199016,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Spectroscopical Society of Japan","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121482992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At low pressure, the emission intensity increases linearly with increasing the laser energy for three kinds of gases. However, at high pressure near atmospheric pressure, the more intense emission intensity can be obtained by increasing the laser energy for He, while for Ar and air, higher laser energy does not bring about high emission intensity. The cause for this is discussed briefly in terms of the gas breakdown and self-absorption.","PeriodicalId":199016,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Spectroscopical Society of Japan","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114403073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When the metal film is very thin and has an island structure, the IR enhancement is caused by the collective electron resonance. When the metal film is sufficiently thick, the enhancement arises from the optical cavity effect. These results support the enhancement mechanisms previously proposed by us in both the Otto and Kretschmann configuration independently. Our experiments also reveal the pres-ence of a transition thickness region between the island and the continuous films.","PeriodicalId":199016,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Spectroscopical Society of Japan","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122140169","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A new method is described to measure electric field strength in a region of the cathode surfaces from the intensity ratio of respective fluorescences. Electric field intensity distribution is measured in plane-parallel hollow cathode discharge by using this method in a range from 0.5 to 3.9 kV/cm in the dark space. The detection limit is briefly discussed.","PeriodicalId":199016,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Spectroscopical Society of Japan","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130684493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Gains of absorbance by overlaying metal surfaces to the reflection surface of the germanium prism decreased at large incident angles, when coarse surfaces of metals were applied. It was due to an air layer between the metal surface and the reflection surface of the germanium prism, whose thickness exceed a penetration depth of the electromagnetic field from the refrection surface. Spectra of the PVAC film on the reflection surface of the prism by the S poralized radiation suggested how thick the air layer was in comparison with the penetration depth.","PeriodicalId":199016,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Spectroscopical Society of Japan","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116266407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
