Innovation policies are expected to promote the transformation of complex socio-technical systems and call for fundamentally different societal production and consumption patterns. This is strictly associated with energy systems and energy policies. A policy framework was conceptualized considering three levels approach: the policy shape at the micro level, the policy context at the meso level and the policy universe at the landscape level. Possible failures were classified according to the levels. To minorize these failures, an evaluation framework was developed considering both the policy outputs and the social impact outcomes - an example of renewable energy communities was applied to the policy and evaluation framework. Current waste management practices are designed for efficiency of disposal but do not address increasing waste generation and waste externalities. The present global waste situation is magnified by exponential increases in plastic production; misconceptions of recycling; and confusion with 21st Century materials. Addressing these imbalances requires cities to have a new understanding of waste-making processes and practices, reconceptualized as responsible materials stewardship. Traditional waste disposal methods, such as open burning, landfilling, and incineration, have increased greenhouse gas emissions in economic and material losses. Unless immediate action is made to curtail demand, prolong product lifespans, enhance waste management, and encourage recyclability, plastic pollution will increase due to an almost threefold increase in plastic use spurred by growing populations and affluence. Plastic production primarily is from crude oil or gas despite more than a fourfold growth from ~6.8 million tonnes in 2000 to ~30 million tonnes in 2019; only ~6% of the world’s total plastics production is made from recycled plastics. The competitiveness and profitability of secondary markets may increase with the establishment of recycled content objectives and advancements in recycling technology. Based on this TC’s isotach (line of equal wind speed) analysis, in this paper, much more meteorological-oceanographic (met-ocean) products are developed and value-added to these isotachs. They are, for marine meteorology, overwater friction velocity, wind stress, atmospheric vorticity and the mean vertical velocity, and for oceanography, significant wave height, drift-current velocity, wind-stress tide and wave set-up. Furthermore, in order to estimate the wind-stress induced storm surges, two case studies are presented. Arsenic contamination is currently one of the leading environmental problems worldwide. The arsenic (As) cycle is the subject of this article because As is an element with a significant impact on living beings and because of its interrelation with other biogeochemical cycles. The biogeochemical cycle of As is closed, so this trace element returns to sediments where it can be changed in its chemical state by micro-organisms present in soils. In addition, some minerals contribute to the sequestration and retention of As. This element interferes with other critical biogeochemical cycles such as sulfur, phosphorus, iron, manganese, and antimony. Another factor to consider is determining the content and interference of organic matter in the soil, as it forms very stable compounds with As. The research focuses on a comparative, longitudinal analysis of three Dutch product chains (mattresses, concrete, and textiles) from 2016 to the present. The study based on action research, utilizes documents, reports from all meetings, and personal observations. Drawing from the fields of public administration and transition management, the paper addresses two critical knowledge gaps. First, the paper contributes to the transition management literature by shedding light on how complex systemic changes, such as the transition from a linear to a circular economy, can be realized in practice. The cross-case analysis demonstrates that, even with the distinct characteristics of each case, the overall network governance approach exhibits significant similarities. These commonalities are synthesized into ten guiding principles for building a circular economy through network governance. These principles comprehensively integrate all aspects of transition management mentioned in the literature, creating a coherent framework. They provide transition management practitioners with a systematic approach for thinking, acting, and collaborating. Secondly, the paper offers insights into the interplay between network governance and public governance in real-world cases. The analysis demonstrates that network governance can significantly contribute to accelerating the transition to a circular economy. However, public governance continues to play a pivotal role, particularly during the scaling-up and mainstreaming phases of the transition. Implementing network governance is a learning experience, not only for the network partners but also in how they can collaborate with the government. Additionally, this process requires a shift in the government's mindset to embrace network governance as a complementary approach for governing complex transition processes. Other emerging pathogens affecting human populations transmitted by Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti are chikungunya and Zika viruses. People who live in poor areas are more susceptible to be infected by these diseases. The lack of selective garbage collection and inadequate water storage are important factors in the dynamics of vector-borne transmission. This study took place in Estrutural City, the poorest city in Brasilia, Brazil, which hosted the largest open dump in America Latina and second largest in the world for almost 60 years; many of the inhabitants are waste pickers, who live and survive by gathering and selling recyclable waste. A qualitative study used semi-structured interviews with 100 participants to understand the experiences regarding community knowledge on mosquitos, contributing and prevention measures, and water access. Previous research on waste pickers has focused on vector-borne diseases, their exposure, and mitigation strategies. This research uncovered novel experiences that confirmed the plethora of knowledge of this population regarding exposure to vectors, specifically dengue. Participants mentioned contributing factors to the disease, while identifying mosquitos that carry dengue, and how often and how specifically it was to have dengue. They also mention preventative techniques that they currently take and strategies to improve upon these. The LCA (Life-Cycle Assessment) method, an internationally standardized method used to calculate the environmental impact of goods or services, in the carbon footprint, does not take into account the carbon set and consequently the subtraction of carbon dioxide by the plant biomass whether or not aimed at the production of food of animal origin. This methodology could overestimate the carbon dioxide generated to obtain plant and animal products that require their use. For the production of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DPO, in this specific case, the masses of the various forage and cereal species used were quantified starting from the food rations of the different categories divided by age and production phase (dry, lactation, young livestock and heifers). The population includes all the animals reared in the areas covered by the DPO specification and with a milk production orientation. The carbon fixed in the forage and consequently the carbon dioxide subtracted from the atmosphere was calculated on the food mass, through the various harvesting speeds and the percentages of dry matter. The purpose of this contribution was to calculate the number of greenhouse gases emitted during the digestive and fermentative processes as well as that produced by the manure and the CO2 emitted with respiration by comparing it with the sequestration of carbon, and therefore of carbon dioxide, in all plants and all vegetable raw materials, grown in Italy and abroad, used to feed the buffaloes destined for the production of buffalo mozzarella from Campania (Mozzarella MBC) in the DPO area. The amount of greenhouse gases converted into equivalent carbon dioxide emitted during production is lower than the carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere. For every kg of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DPO, a total of about 52 kg of CO2eq is subtracted. The characterization was carried out using elemental analysis, proximate analysis, Higher Heating Value (HHV), FTIR spectroscopy, SEM, and FRX. The carbonization, using a Muffle Furnace, was applied as a thermal conversion technique to improve the fixed carbon content, and preliminary densification was done to assess the potential for future production of briquettes. The C, H, N, O, and S percentages were 44.43%, 5.34%, 2.25%, 46.17%, and 1.81%, respectively. The percentage of fixed carbon (14.17%) increased to 31.10% (250°C) and 35.68% (300°C) after carbonization. At 400°C, the HHV presented a decrease of 9.62%, and ash content increased by 177.66%. FTIR spectra showed bands characteristic of hemicellulose, cellulose, and lignin at 3414 - 3393 cm-1 (O-H) and decrease of absorbance of 74.01% to 81.37% after carbonization; 1738 – 1603 cm-1 (C=O), with reduction in the order of 73.94% to 78.31%, and 48.97% to 73.76%, when compared to the absorbances of the biomass in nature. The SEM of the carnauba straw in nature presented the main structural components (cellulose, lignin, and hemicellulose). After carbonization, evidence of degradation and coal formation was observed, which corroborates with the decrease in the HHV and increase of ash. The FRX was inserted in the SEM images, and the elements detected were Ca, K, and S. The quantities and order of abundance in biomass natural and carbonized were compatible with other biomasses used as biofuel. The carnauba straw in natural and carbonized was densified to understand the characteristics of the compacted material. The sample carbonized at 300°C presented a solid with the potential for future production of briquettes. Eco-regions are ecologically and geographically defined larger land or water mass areas with a characteristic assemblage of the ecosystem and significant biodiversity. A decentralized and locally self-sustaining mechanism has been achieved in managing this eco-region by a participatory model through a joint Biodiversity Management Committee (jBMC) constitution. BMCs are custodians of the environment, and biodiversity, confined to a village/Panchayat, as per Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) guidelines and the Indian Biodiversity Act. This jBMC constitutes a network of statutory biodiversity experts from the BMCs of three Local Self Governments (LSGs) or Panchayath administrations, where the Sasthamkotta Lake is located. It has been formed to develop strategies to manage and conserve the freshwater lake and its biodiversity. The management action plan proposed by the jBMC for the Sasthamkotta Ramsar site includes systematic and continuous assessment of the current biodiversity status, identifying and mitigating threats, appropriate use of its resources for eco-restoration and better administrative programs for biodiversity enhancement.
