It is a well known fact that large number of baby boomers is reaching retirement in the very near future. Many people will be entering nursing homes, retirement homes or prefer to stay home. This along with Affordable health care act creates a huge demand for providing efficient and timely health care for this population. The colleges will not be producing medical doctors, nurses and other professionals fast enough to meet this growing demand. With the increasing availability of sensors, computation and wireless networks, some of these challenges can be met economically and efficiently. The purpose of this paper is to address the issues involved and provide some solutions in meeting these future challenges.","PeriodicalId":196519,"journal":{"name":"2014 World Automation Congress (WAC)","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114623232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The position of the target is estimated based on the linear approximation between translational motion space and binocular visual space. The attitude of the target is also estimated by the linear approximation between rotational motion space and posture binocular visual space. The proposed method is robust to calibration error of camera angles, because it does not use camera angles to calculate feedback command for translational and rotational velocity. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":196519,"journal":{"name":"2014 World Automation Congress (WAC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129152603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As an easy-to-perform oral cancer screening system, we established a new electrochemical telomerase assay (ECTA) method that is superior to a telomerase repeat amplification protocol assay, a popular method for detection of telomerase activity. In the present study, we employed 3 types of clinical samples to examine the sensitivity and specificity of ECTA. Three types of samples were obtained from 44 oral squamous cell carcinoma patients and 16 healthy volunteers; exfoliated cells from the whole oral cavity, exfoliated cells from local lesions, and tissue samples from lesions. Telomerase activity was determined in the samples using ECTA. The increase in current in the oral cancer group was significantly higher than that in the healthy volunteer group for each sample type, while there were no significant differences among the 3 sample types in the oral cancer group. The sensitivity and specificity of ECTA was 94.6% and 88.6%, respectively. Our novel ECTA method showed excellent detection of telomerase activity and is consider applicable as an oral cancer screening system.","PeriodicalId":196519,"journal":{"name":"2014 World Automation Congress (WAC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129183108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper built point clouds based on Structure From Motion (SFM) techniques firstly, then excluded the outliers from the point clouds, and finally generated the regular grid DEM through different interpolation methods. At the same time, the paper proposed an improved inverse distance weighted interpolation method based on the exponent p of weighting function. As seen in the experimental results evaluated by checkpoint method, the improved inverse distance weighted interpolation got the higher accuracy than inverse distance weighted interpolation. The followed was nearest neighbor interpolation. The moving average interpolation performed the worst. The results indicated that the improved interpolation method was an effective way to extract DEM using photogrammetry techniques.","PeriodicalId":196519,"journal":{"name":"2014 World Automation Congress (WAC)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132480994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present work, numerical study of dielectrophoretic (DEP) flow channel, a dielectrophoretic devise that exploits the differences in the density and dielectric properties of cells in cell-separation, was conducted to examine the cell-separation performance of the proposed device. The cell sample used in the simulation was assumed to be Human leukocyte (B cell). The cell-separation analysis was carried out for the flow channel equipped with a flat electrode on the top surface and an array of micro-fabricated electrodes on the bottom surface; yielding a three dimensional non-uniform AC electric field. To investigate optimal separation conditions for live and dead cell mixtures, the strength of the applied electric field was varied in several ways. With appropriately chosen conditions, high separation performance was achieved in separating dead cells from live cells. The proposed device does not involve cell labeling or cell modification step, and provides a new approach to hematological analysis.","PeriodicalId":196519,"journal":{"name":"2014 World Automation Congress (WAC)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132631212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Carbon monoxide emissions are reduce by oxygen regulation in the incinerator; nevertheless nitrogen oxides emissions are difficult to control because the sludge composition varies continuously. This scheme ensures carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides regulation without decreasing combustion efficiency. In order to obtain the sludge combustion model, it is proposed to use a recurrent high order neural network (RHONN), which is trained with an extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm. The proposed neural controller performance is illustrated via simulations.","PeriodicalId":196519,"journal":{"name":"2014 World Automation Congress (WAC)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114160084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, tokamak operation may benefit from model predictive control techniques to extend the pulse duration by reducing instabilities while guaranteeing tokamak integrity. The numerical results seem to indicate that internal inductance and current profiles can be adequately controlled which will influence the L-H transition timing, the density peaking and pedestal pressure. In this regard, the need for optimal, robust control emerges as a key factor in the development of a nuclear fusion reactor.","PeriodicalId":196519,"journal":{"name":"2014 World Automation Congress (WAC)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125217354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SoSs involve primarily combination of hardware and software, as well as humans and organizations. The need to teach model-based system-of-systems engineering has thus raised the need to determine what the most suitable language for modeling and teaching SoSs is. We developed a new course format, in which groups jointly reverse-engineer and model Web-based information systems in two different modeling languages, UML and OPM, and then individually assess their peers' projects. The goal of this study was to compare UML with OPM as two candidates. We developed and evaluated an online peer assessment tool which students used. About 130 undergraduate students in groups of six divided into teams of three modeled 23 systems in both UML and OPM. They then evaluated, compared, and ranked the clarity & understandability and the completeness of the four models of two systems that their peers had constructed. Findings demonstrate that neither the order of the models assessment nor the assessor gender affected the grading, indicating assessment reliability. We found significant differences in model clarity and understandability in favor of OPM and no differences in completeness between OPM and UML models. These findings validate our approach of teaching both conceptual modeling languages and using peer assessment in large-scale project-based undergraduate information systems engineering courses.","PeriodicalId":196519,"journal":{"name":"2014 World Automation Congress (WAC)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126958518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The detection of Region of Interest (RoI) is always been regarded as the most significant in tracking system. One of the algorithm which can be used in RoI detecting is “Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Application with Noise” (DBSCAN). But because of its structure, the runtime consuming costs too much when handling large spatial dataset. Considering the features of image processing, a mesh-divide and Kalman Filter forecasting method is proposed combing DBSCAN for RoI detection and forecasting of image processing. The DBSCAN can be used in the RoI detection and position forecast at the next frame in surveillance system to decrease the runtime cost and improve the accuracy at the same time.","PeriodicalId":196519,"journal":{"name":"2014 World Automation Congress (WAC)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115362417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most SR algorithms are complex and need iterations. Recent commercial products such as HDTV sets, BluRay players, and digital cameras are equipped with an SR technology called super resolution image reconstruction (SRR). SRR algorithms have strict constraint conditions and require precise motion vector detection. It is not easy to use SRR in HDTV sets that have to work in real time. In particular, HDTV content has motion blur since it is a moving image. The motion blur reduces resolution and makes it difficult to detect motion vectors accurately. Yet despite these obvious problems, the limitations of using SRR in commercial products have not been addressed. This paper discusses those limitations.","PeriodicalId":196519,"journal":{"name":"2014 World Automation Congress (WAC)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116154907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
