A systematic literature review was conducted to find scientific evidence in databases: PuhMed, Science Direct, SciELO and PEDro. Scientific papers conducted in individuals with and without spinal cord injury to assess the electromyographic signal (EMG) during voluntary cough, the last 30 years in English, Portuguese and Spanish were included. Five articles were chosen for analysis and summarization of data. In individuals without spinal cord injury (SCI), the EMG signal is active in the expiratory muscles and accessories, while in individuals with SCI the mechanism of voluntary cough this restricted the clavicular portion of the pectoralis major muscle. The heterogeneity of EMG variables and the small number of included articles were the main biases found in this study.","PeriodicalId":196438,"journal":{"name":"2014 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116315896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technique they used to propel the wheelchair increases the risk, this can be explained because the overuse of the anterior muscles of the joint respect to posterior muscles, generates muscle imbalance [1]. It takes little importance in the technique to propel, and there are no technologies to measure the propulsion available in all hospitals. In the present project a wheelchair ergometer and a 17 rotational degrees of freedom (DOF) biomechanical model were developed to allocate the kinematic parameters to the subject during propulsion, this DOF are associated to shoulder, elbow and wrist joints using seven MTx sensors from Xsens Technologies, each of them associated to a determined anatomic segment. A visual live feedback virtual interface was developed using Visual C++ to create a 3D skeletal model associated to the movement of each anatomic segment, furthermore angle, velocity and acceleration graphics were generated for each joint movement.","PeriodicalId":196438,"journal":{"name":"2014 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133239964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The example shows a method to obtain an optimal space between rings (kerf) for each Fz, based on minimization of RMSE. The results of kerf VS RMSE, for our synthesizing functions Fz, show that the minimum kerf is the best for a minor RMSE. However, the optimum kerf is dependent of field pattern Fz, over z axis. Finally, we proposed the inspection of other parameters such as the position of each ring, the harmonic distortion of the driving signals, the variations on the amplitude and phase of the driving signals, and others, are proposed.","PeriodicalId":196438,"journal":{"name":"2014 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129924700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current interests focus on particles suspended in air known as PM10 which significantly contribute to increased prevalence of heart disease. Specifically, the city of Mexicali was found to be one of the most polluted cities of Mexico in 2010. Cardiovascular abnormalities are often reflected in characteristic indicators of auscultation based examination. This fundamental diagnostic procedure can be significantly enhanced using low-cost detection technologies and accompanied pattern recognition for classification of associated sound attributes. Related economic issues are critical, both in Latin America and in other regions of the world, where often a limited level of specialized healthcare services are available. One of the goals of these studies was to prove initially demonstrated capabilities that the distinctive auscultatory classification indicators and diagnostic assessment can be easily implemented. In the case of heart sound signals, both the normal sounds and those representing abnormal conditions can be examined and differentiated for diagnostic purposes. The main focus of this study was to use Hidden Markov Models (HMM) for the classification and evaluation of heart sounds (HS). In particular, the application of HMM models provides greater robustness to noise and other interference such as the GMM models. The results demonstrate an enhanced quantitative evaluation, which could assist in a more accurate and economical HS assessment.","PeriodicalId":196438,"journal":{"name":"2014 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130118971","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The private service is very expensive; hence the public health sector capacity is exceeded to accomplish this demand. A proposal to solve this problem is the implementation of a wireless network based on Bluetooth (BT) for recording, monitoring and analysis of electrocardiographic signals (ECG). Three surface electrodes are placed on the chest, following standardized points of triangle of Einthoven. The signals measured are amplified and filtered by components in a circuit and then they are carried to Arduino UNO card. The ECG signal is sent by BT from Arduino UNO to a mobile device carried by the user, so he can send it to a workstation where the ECG is processed or analyzed by an expert. This proposal would help the health sector to improve the quality of their service in the care of patients with heart diseases; also costs of health care would significantly decrease.","PeriodicalId":196438,"journal":{"name":"2014 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121174419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three different actuators were used: servomotor, stepper motors & gear motors. The hand performs two different movements: flexo-extension & abduction-adduction; is controlled via embedded systems using Arduino® platform, each finger has a defined trajectory, movements are free and the system doesn't take into account parameters such as: position, speed or torque. The control signals were from an EMG acquiring system based on four differential channels [1]. The acquire system process the signals to give movement commands to the control system of the hand. Feedback system is an addition to the hand control, previously reported by the same authors [2], it is divided in two: analog and digital. Analog is based on operational amplifiers to measure flow currents from each kind of actuator; Digital part is programmed over Arduino® platform to interpret the output from the analog part. Provides to the hand autonomy and free will to take advantage decisions about the movements for each finger. Leaving only to the hand to take the decision, excluding the prosthetic user in that moment.","PeriodicalId":196438,"journal":{"name":"2014 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"430 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131419963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This angle was obtained from a commercial Motion Tracking system with 19 subjects: 10 with cerebral palsy (CP) and 9 with no neurological impairment. Subjects performed one task, consisting in reaching a small object (elbow extension) and bringing it to their mouths (elbow flexion). A MATLAB toolbox was implemented in order to compute the logarithmic dimensionless jerk metric, the mean arrest period ratio, the spectral arc-length metric and the peaks metric, as well as the maximum peak angle, minimum peak angle, maximum peak velocity, maximum peak acceleration and minimum angular acceleration. Results show the consistency of the spectral arc-length metric to display the differences between CP and healthy subjects, while the peaks metric and the logarithmic dimensionless jerk metric tend to be useful under some restrictions. With this analysis, a preliminary motor impairment assessment can be deducted, by comparing the metrics data from the CP subjects with the control group.","PeriodicalId":196438,"journal":{"name":"2014 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123751199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The signals were classified using the coefficients extracted from a discrete wavelet transform analysis. While the first method uses a feature vector based on the variance of the wavelet coefficients, the second analysis considers a PCA treatment focused on dimensionality reduction. These vectors were used to feed an artificial neural network. The first method was applied for both the transient and steady states obtaining an average classification accuracy of 89.43% (SD 2.05%) and 91.86% (SD 3.17%) respectively. The second method gave a classification accuracy of 92.58% (SD 3.07%) for the transient state. This proves the existence of deterministic information within the transient state of the EMG signal and the possibility to classify different movements since the beginning of the muscle contraction.","PeriodicalId":196438,"journal":{"name":"2014 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114296597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
