This research investigated six strategies involved in Zimmerman's SRL framework: goal setting and self-efficacy in forethought phase, task strategies and metacognitive monitoring in performance phase, and self-evaluation and self-satisfaction in self-reflection phase to study the influence of large-scale distance learning on students’ self-regulated learning during COVID-19 pandemic. By in-depth interviews with five Chinese graduates studying in different universities in Japan, it was found that some students’ SRL were negatively influenced in the distance learning during COVID-19 pandemic while some with reported higher level of SRL were less affected. This paper discussed the implication of the findings and concluded with suggestions to promote learners' self-regulated learning in distance learning.","PeriodicalId":196340,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Digital Technology in Education","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134003147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Online education pre-school teachers as high emotional workers, coupled with the influence of COVID-19, their different emotional labour strategies will have different effects on job satisfaction. Our study investigated the relationship between personality traits, emotional labour and job satisfaction during the COVID-19. A questionnaire survey was administered to 450 pre-school teachers that they worked online at home in China using the Personality Trait Inventory, Emotional Labour Scale and Job Satisfaction Inventory. The results showed that the COVID-19 significantly impacted pre-school teachers' personality traits and emotional labour. First, the Big Five Personalities were significant influences on the emotional labour of pre-school teachers, with openness and agreeableness being strong predictors of surface acting, agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness, and extraversion being effective predictors of deep acting, and agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness being effective predictors of natural expression. Among them, the most common type of emotional labour for pre-school teachers was deep acting. Secondly, the greatest influence on job satisfaction was openness and agreeableness in the Big Five Personality dimensions. Their effect sizes on job satisfaction were 0.246 and 0.223, respectively. Nervousness was not significantly related to job satisfaction of pre-school teachers. Finally, the Mediation of deep acting and natural expression were more significant between different personality dimensions and job satisfaction of pre-school teachers.","PeriodicalId":196340,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Digital Technology in Education","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129980787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The challenges come from the Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic has forced children in the border areas to learn from home. On the one hand, learning from home has required guidance from the teacher. While on the other hand, the teacher was unable to guide the children at home for a long time. Then the following question has arisen: how do teachers guide students through a pattern of distance teaching-learning process amid the Covid-19 pandemic? To answer the question, this research was conducted by proposing WhatsApp as a media that bridges the distance teaching-learning activities. The research uses qualitative methods such as literature studies, contemporary newspaper studies, distance interviews, and online research methods. The result of research has shown following findings: (1) Using WhatsApp media as an alternative for the teachers to communicate and to share learning materials with assignments in the context of the distance teaching-learning activities. (2) Some students could use WhatsApp media, while other students could not because did not have the device. (3) The class teachers continue to deliver learning materials and assignments to each student at home, then pick assignments up as well scheduled. Some conclusions of research are (1) The use of WhatsApp media in the distance teaching and learning activities in the border areas of Indonesia and Timor-Leste helped students to meet learning objectives. (2) In fact, class teachers and some students have used WhatsApp media in the distance learning activities, while some other students did not use WhatsApp media. However, the results have shown 99% of students' grades and graduations. (3) The central and local governments principally have responded the needs of basic education and supported the distance teaching-learning activities using WhatsApp media.","PeriodicalId":196340,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Digital Technology in Education","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131712153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The attention and favor of colleges and universities at all levels as well as teaching-related groups, however, because \"online education\" started relatively late, the concept of education has not been updated in time, and the understanding of technology and education is not correct. The construction of \"network teaching platform\" in colleges and universities has failed to achieve the expected effect, and even led to the erroneous cognition of \"information-based education\" and \"shared education\" at one time. Taking Chinese University MOOC as an example, this paper uses the methods of case analysis, literature research, online investigation and so on to summarize and sort out the advantages of Chinese university MOOC and its enlightenment to the network teaching platform of colleges and universities. Then the development trend of network teaching platform in colleges and universities under the background of Internet is analyzed. The construction of network teaching platform in colleges and universities should be fully aware of their strengths and weaknesses, make them keep up with the pace of the times under the support of new technological trends and policies, and look forward to their future development under the new situation of \"Internet\". The network teaching platform of colleges and universities can only grasp its own position, carry on its own reform and strengthen the learning and application of new technologies (cloud computing, big data analysis, AI artificial intelligence, VR virtual reality).","PeriodicalId":196340,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Digital Technology in Education","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127109853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While lecture mode is an effective way of delivering complex concept, it is at the expense of poor student engagement. In this case study, a self-initiated project component is implemented in an undergraduate mechanical engineering course consisting of local students in Hong Kong. Better student engagement is prominently found in comparison to regular lecture mode, as demonstrated by a significant quantitative improvement in student interaction during class. The results further suggest that compulsory participation can subsequently induce voluntary participation. This finding sheds lights on devising compulsory engagement protocol to trigger sustainable student engagement in Asian tertiary education.","PeriodicalId":196340,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Digital Technology in Education","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126286189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
