Nevertheless, motorists are not able to realize the full benefits of these alternative highways because they do not have real-time traffic information. This paper proposes a proof-of-concept open standard graphic system that could provide a bird-eye view graphically. The system could help drivers plan their routes and reduce traffic congestion. The graphical concept is applicable to other domains.","PeriodicalId":194815,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Conference on Innovative Technologies in Intelligent Systems and Industrial Applications","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121275602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accurate segmentation of medical images is very essential in medical applications but it is very difficult job due to noise and in homogeneity that are usual of medical images. In this paper a new method, based on FCM, is proposed to make FCM more robust against noise. Multi-scale images are obtained by smoothing input image in different scales. FCM is applied to multi-scale images from high scale to low scale. First FCM is applied to image with highest scale. Then in each scale, cluster centers of previous scale are used to initialization membership for current scale. Moreover, in FCM, neighborhood attraction is used to more decrease effect of noise in clustering. Experimental result shows effectiveness of new method.","PeriodicalId":194815,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Conference on Innovative Technologies in Intelligent Systems and Industrial Applications","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126661019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on local mutual information and image thresholding. In order to identify the forest change area, the image of local mutual information were thresholded using three different threshold value, i.e -0.5, 0 and 0.5. The result is a binary change image. Our result shows that the best threshold value of local mutual information is 0. It has been shown that by using this method, the problem on selecting the threshold value can be solved. This method is simple and suitable to be used to detect the changes area even for the images taken from different modality. However, when the resolution of the available satellite image is too coarse and does not meet the required resolution, a process known as image re-sampling need to be employed, so a higher resolution version of the image could be obtained. Image re-sampling may involve interpolation, which is a process of allocating intensity value into a new generated pixel. Yet, interpolation method usually degrades the image quality. In this paper, five basic interpolation methods have been successfully implemented. These interpolation methods are nearest neighbor interpolation, bilinear interpolation, interpolation with smoothing filter, interpolation with sharpening filter, and interpolation with unsharp masking. The aim of this project is to find interpolation method that is suitable for remote sensing data. The method of our interest is the method that is easy to be implemented, but can preserve the quality of the data in term of sharpness and validness of the information. Based on the results, it is shown that all five interpolation methods tested in this research can produce good quality output when the resolution of input image is high. For low resolution input, only bilinear, smoothing filter and unsharp masking can preserve the quality of the image. However, this is only limited for interpolation with magnification factor less than 5. Bilinear, smoothing filter and unsharp masking are suitable to interpolate remote sensing data if the resolution of the input image is high enough.","PeriodicalId":194815,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Conference on Innovative Technologies in Intelligent Systems and Industrial Applications","volume":"431 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123415765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can be achieved by obtaining a robust cascade for hand detection from the training algorithm proposed. This has been implemented onto a gesture recognition system which was developed for the purpose of gesture based control of mobile robots. An experimental approach was adopted in identifying the dominant training parameters based on observations on the performance of the cascades. Four parameters were suspected to have significance on the training results. It is computationally expensive to evaluate all possible combinations of different levels of the parameters and to perform analysis on the data to justify if the hypothesis made is correct. The Taguchi Method, was used to carry out the analysis. The main insight here is that investigation was carried out without having to carry out the entire set of possible combinations, analysis was performed by carrying out a fraction of the entire set of possible combinations according to a special pattern which is specified by Taguchi Method. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze the training data. Results of F Test reveal the correctness of the hypothesis made earlier. Further works can be carried out based on results of this paper to obtain optimal values for the dominant parameters which have been identified and the optimal values can be used as input to the training algorithm to obtain a robust cascade for hand detection.","PeriodicalId":194815,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Conference on Innovative Technologies in Intelligent Systems and Industrial Applications","volume":"46 1-3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132564477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the key problems to solve in this area is to adapt learning content and services according to a learner's needs and wants to different learning contexts at the workplace. We propose using semantic web services as a solution to context -adaptive pervasive learning. Another problem lies in web service search, which may return many services that do not match the requirements and context of a learner. This wastes resources and poses more problems to the formulation of just-in-time learning activities. In this paper, we define a service requirement specification to model a service request and a semantic description metadata schema to sufficiently annotate web service functionalities and behavior. On top of that, we propose an adaptation model to match and adapt relevant web services. The technique and algorithm presented in this paper are aimed at improving the efficiency and accuracy in selecting the right web service for a scenario at the workplace.","PeriodicalId":194815,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Conference on Innovative Technologies in Intelligent Systems and Industrial Applications","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124996630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Automated service composition is useful in enhancing the entertainment experience through coordination among existing services to fulfill user request. UPnP AV architecture is well adopted for building consumer-oriented AV products with simple installation and configuration setting. However, not all services specified in UPnP AV architecture is useful for automating service composition. Thus, in this paper, we propose a methodology to organize the information advertised by UPnP AV devices and selectively add the information into ontology to support service composition. We focus our research on AV home network environment. With the ontology, complex service composition can be performed easily so that a better entertainment experience can be offered to the users.","PeriodicalId":194815,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Conference on Innovative Technologies in Intelligent Systems and Industrial Applications","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131743984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ZnO solutions made from Zinc acetate dehydrate (ZnAC), 2-Methoxyethanol and monoethanolmine (MEA) are deposited onto glass substrates using spin coating technique. Deposited films are annealed at various temperatures from 350degC to 500degC in the furnace (Preterm Furnace) for 1 hour. The effect of annealing temperature on the electrical properties is investigated. The electrical properties are characterized using Current-Voltage (I-V) measurement unit (Advantest R6243). I-V characterization shows the films exhibited ohmic contact and the resistivity decreased when annealing temperature increased. This indicates that the electrical properties of the films improved with higher annealing temperature up to 500degC.","PeriodicalId":194815,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Conference on Innovative Technologies in Intelligent Systems and Industrial Applications","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133870309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
