The Ministry of Education of China as well as colleges and universities are taking actions to redefine IT education programs at the baccalaureate-degree level. The emphasis on IT programs has been moving from traditional computer science studies to innovative IT fields such as network engineering, artificial intelligence and cloud computing. This paper provides an overview of IT education development in China. It introduces three newly established pilot IT programs focusing on internet of things, big data, and application computer science and technology. It also maps these programs into the ACM/IEEE IT 2017 framework with an emphasis on flexibility to accommodate diverse industry needs. Additionally, this work addresses the future directions for an evolving IT educational transformation in China that reflects national development goals for the next decade.","PeriodicalId":194706,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ACM Turing Celebration Conference - China","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129796195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This strategy is student-centered and can reinforce practical experience and context-aware problem solving. In this paper, we propose a novel evaluation framework by applying concept mapping to address the great concern of comparing different teaching strategies. Specifically, the proposed evaluation framework consists of four phases, i.e., concept map construction, concept map converting, multidimensional scaling and clustering analysis. The evaluating results based on concept mapping over a demo course reveal the following two statements: (a) Situational cases can help learners learn important concepts and organize their relationships with the goal of practical problem solving in engineering courses; (b) Compared with the conventional lecture strategy, the situational case-based one is helpful for learners to achieve high-level cognitive outcomes, e.g., antagonistic thinking.","PeriodicalId":194706,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ACM Turing Celebration Conference - China","volume":"2013 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121637481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The arrival of digital campus brings new opportunities for the higher education institutions to promote convenient and efficient precise stipend. In this paper, a model based on multi-view and classification ensemble is proposed to predict the stipend of undergraduates. Firstly, the multi-dimensional data of undergraduates is divided into two different views according to their learning performance and living behavior. Then, the multi-view learning methods are used to obtain more discriminative features, and the classification ensemble is applied to predict the stipend of undergraduates at last. The experimental results show that the proposed model based on multi-view and classification ensemble can effectively achieve the stipend prediction.","PeriodicalId":194706,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ACM Turing Celebration Conference - China","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130760361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, the author describes deficiencies in current university curriculum design as well as the status quo and development trend in the IT industry. Then, this poster introduces the purpose of curriculum, i.e., to cultivate the basic engineers' qualifications for undergraduates and postgraduates, and to develop communication capabilities, critical thinking approach and business acumen of students. The poster proposes the scope of the curriculums that can be professionally practiced with limited class hours, including three dimensions such as engineer development culture history, industry engineering methodology, and business acumen. The poster introduces the contents, the objectives, class hours and assessment methods for each dimension in detail. Considering both the characteristics of undergraduates and postgraduates during the learning phase and the cultivation of future abilities of engineers, the author uses two measures which include the report and small project to cultivate students' written communication skills and ability to solve problems by utilizing engineering methodologies. Next, the poster introduces course including the name, class hours, fields, objectives, teaching methods and assessment methods by the semester sequence. Specific course content design includes the history of the development of the IT industry culture, the industry's good practice and engineering methodology and classic professional books. Then, the author interprets interactive teaching approaches to assist students to understand engineering related conception and methodology. Finally, the author describes improvement plan.","PeriodicalId":194706,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ACM Turing Celebration Conference - China","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114939529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We regard reasoning as the major component of cognition, other than learning, that needs to be incorporated. We suggest that the central challenge therefore is to unify the formulation of these two phenomena, learning and reasoning, whose conventional formulations are contradictory, into a single framework with a common semantics. We propose Robust Logic for this role, as a framework with a satisfactory theoretical basis. Testing it experimentally on a significant scale remains a major challenge for the future.","PeriodicalId":194706,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ACM Turing Celebration Conference - China","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114985141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Students are encouraged to propose and implement their own innovative ideas in the form of team projects. It is a challenge for undergraduates to carry out a project of innovation, paricularly when they cannot get timely instruction from teachers after class. In this poster, we argue that collaborative learning is an effective approach to promote students' innovation activities after class and online platforms play an important role. To this end, we propose a strategy of flexibly combining multiple mobile Internet platforms, such as WeChat, WizNote, Rain Classroom et al., to facilitate collaborative learning. These platforms enable the students to contribute to projects and learn from each other efficiently. Comparative experiments are conducted among one class that adopts the platform combination strategy (PC-class) and other three classes that adopt a simpler but more popular WeChat-only strategy (WO-classes). Survey results show that the students in the PC-class benefit more from collaborative learning and are more initiative to partipate in the project implementation. Consistently, the ratio of the projects that are implemented successfully, e.g., presented with a working prototype system or recognized by field experts, is higher in the PC-class.","PeriodicalId":194706,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ACM Turing Celebration Conference - China","volume":"519 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123119090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, recent studies for personalized exercise recommendation only take the learning status of a student in recommendation and fail to take the prerequisite relationships among knowledge points into account which represent a reasonable learning sequence of these knowledge points during a study procedure. To the best of knowledge, in this paper, we make the first attempt employing both of the learning status of a student and the prerequisite dependencies among knowledge points to enhance the effectiveness in personalized exercise recommendation. A real-case evaluation confirms the effectiveness of our personalized exercise recommendation algorithm in terms of recommendation precision and diversity.","PeriodicalId":194706,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ACM Turing Celebration Conference - China","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130782117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
