Sea surface salinity was recorded using a refractometer during two sampling activities that were carried out in November 2018. The Global Positioning System (GPS) was used to record the geo-location of each sampling point. IDW method was applied in data collection using ArcGIS Software. Statistical analyses such as correlation analysis, regression analysis, and error analysis were employed to assess the prediction of salinity values. The transformation of the spatial model to map was carried out later to assess the accuracy of the map. The study found that there is a strong positive correlation, r= .753 (p< .05) with the coefficient of determination of 56.80% between observed and predicted salinity values. Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) were calculated at 0.724466 and 0.921728, respectively. The accuracy of the map was found at 81.25%. The study also found that the salinity reading is polyhaline along the coastal water of Pulau Tuba. Overall, the study found that the IDW method has provided a tool to predict and map the surface salinity along the coastal waters of Pulau Tuba, Langkawi.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125274508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is a mismatch between the supply and middle-income housing demand. The developer has always been eager to develop high-end products instead of affordable housing. This circumstance leads to the insufficient supply of middle-income housing. The mismatch is not only in terms of housing price, but also does not meet their housing preferences towards other housing attributes. Accordingly, this paper attempts to develop a conceptual framework for minimising middle-income housing mismatch. Thus, this paper reviewed the existing literature on the housing mismatch occurrences and the strategies to overcome this situation through government intervention. Almost all evidences from the studies indicate government, developer behaviour and buyer preferences have contributed to the middle-income housing mismatch occurrences. The findings were compiled through the creation of a conceptual model. Government intervention, developer behaviour and buyer preferences are included in the model as aspects that cause the housing mismatch occurrences. Significantly all these three aspects should interrelate with each other so that the potential of housing mismatch occurrences is low.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133348944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

People will be confused between renting or buying a house if they did not understand the differences between the two. So, this issue should be researched to completely comprehend the factors that influence the tenants' preferences to rent a house. The factor in preferences to rent a house is because home ownership has become inaccessible for today’s generation. This is because the majority of tenants are working adults who need to face the insurmountable employability and changing social issues affecting its investment. All the data in this research was acquired from the results of demographic analysis and 100 sets of questionnaires within quantitative standards which were conducted online through the Google Forms. The findings have been concluded after gathering all the data, which is to identify the factors in preference to rent and its chronological ranks. This was done not only to get the insight to rent versus ownership decision-making from all walks of life but also of the current market needs. This study will enable the developer and researchers to provide appropriate pricing and amenities, reduce vacant properties and also present realistic solutions such as the Rent to Own scheme, ultimately benefitting the clientele and property industry in the long run.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133684568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the effort so far, the existing literature on morphology of crime areas and pattern of crime presents different perspectives to the study of crime and spaces, reflecting the varied field of urban morphological research. There is a need to understand these perspectives in view of their directions and inherent limitations for effective understanding of crime pattern and urban morphogenesis in cities. The focus of the paper is on the understanding of different perspectives in the study of crime pattern and urban morphology in setting up an effective mechanism for crime prevention and control. Twenty (20) paper articles and six (6) theses published between 2010 - 2021 were selected based on the Environmental criminological research perspectives from the field of Geography, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture and Architecture; and systematically reviewed based on their characteristics and then classified according to their relevance to environmental criminology for analysis and drawing of inferences. The findings indicated that, there is inadequate empirical research on the influence of urban morphology on crime pattern in cities. Therefore, the paper recommends for further research to focus on exploring the various links between elements of urban morphology and spatial distribution of crime in areas, and the explanations that could provide for effective crime prevention and control in cities.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114317090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper examines the distribution of recreational facilities concerning policies and strategies in Greater Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. The data were drawn from the study utilizing Multiple methods - integrated qualitative and quantitative analysis. The qualitative method employs ArcGIS software to determine the distribution of various recreational activity areas. For the quantitative method, a field questionnaire survey was conducted to collect data within the ten sectors of the study area using a simple random sampling, and the data were analysed descriptively using the SPSS software. The study found out that the distribution of the recreational facilities is not according to the policy of a neighbourhood, lacks appropriateness, insufficient to meet the population threshold. This affects the distance journey to recreation and deprives them of the desire for social integration. The study focused on the Greater Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, reflecting a specific developing country with attendant inadequate facilities and services. The paper discussed the distribution as it affects the ten (10) zoning/sectors of the Greater Jos. Based on the problems mentioned above, suggestions were proffered towards observing maximum adherence to the implementation of policies and strategies that would help in achieving equity and adequate distribution of recreational facilities globally, especially in Greater Jos, Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116861019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since then, many educational institutions have started to consider conducting the classes through online platforms such as Google Meet, Cisco WebEx, Microsoft Teams and others. Design-based studio is one of the design stream classes, which practically uses studio classes physically to develop many creative design ideas, skills, innovation, solution, and is considered as the real value of design studio education. However, the studio classes were switched to online platform, and teaching and learning strategy needed to be modified to deal with this issue, dramatically. Thus, the aim of this study is to identify the most effective delivery method in teaching and learning for current best in educational practices. 14 sets of questions in Google Form questionnaire were distributed on week 14 to the students of Landscape Architecture. A total of 261 students responded out of 394 students enrolled in the Landscape Architecture Design studio. The students were in Semester 2, 4 and 6. The students were selected based on the large number of student’s enrollment. The results showed that the students enjoyed learning using Whatsapp, Google Meet and Google Classroom as a synergistic medium for critic sessions. The research suggests three stages of tutorial sessions to suit the needs of the student’s preference.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120964784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a consequence, MCO has changed Malaysians' norms. Many Malaysians have become compulsive online buyers and the food waste issue has occurred due to the problem of over-purchasing. This study intends to extend the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) in influencing waste separation among households. This study investigates the influence of descriptive norms, personal norms, and cognition of consequences towards the intention to separate waste. This research used a quantitative online survey and convenience sampling. A final and valid sample of 300 households was analysed using Pearson correlation. This research indicates that descriptive norms and cognition of consequences significantly influence the intention of Malaysian households to separate waste. On the other hand, personal norms do not have an influence on the waste separation intention. Therefore, the government, local authorities, related agencies, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) should ensure that the Malaysian public is aware of the importance of protecting the environment. This study is unique since many studies have focused on the recycling intentions and behaviour and this study is among new and pioneer studies that apply the extended TPB in investigating the determinants of household waste separation in Malaysia during the pandemic COVID-19.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127737002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Malaysia, it is found that most of the public hospital only focused on the built environment while disregarding the green outdoor environment. There is also a dearth of studies on the implementation of healing environment through therapeutic landscape in Malaysia. This study aims to identify the healing landscapes or therapeutic landscapes in healthcare facilities that are able to heal users’ body-mind health, and to investigate the design and construction guidelines of therapeutic gardens in Malaysian healthcare facilities. This study is conducted using the qualitative method through precedent studies and case studies on healthcare facilities integrated with landscape elements as well as the quantitative method by questionnaire survey. The study has proven that patients who spend time in the courtyard garden or therapeutic garden in healthcare facilities have shorter recovery period and experience a reduction in the level of stress and anxiety. In the future, it is also to be advised to have more studies conducted on local courtyard garden in healthcare facilities in order to fulfil the basic principle of healing garden or therapeutic garden that could heal human body-mind health.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132844002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
