The Kenya National Safety Net Programme (NSNP) is a government social protection programme established in September 2013 as part of the government’s initiative to improve and enhance social protection and improve the welfare of the poor household particularly at the grass root. This study therefore aimed at analyzing the impact of devolved social safety funds on household welfare in Kenya. \u0000Methodology: The study employed a non-experimental pooled cross-sectional research design. Cross-sectional data was collected from selected households using a structured questionnaire. The study targeted a population of 1,128,693 households lifted from the Kenya Integrated Household Budget Survey (2015/2016). Fisher's formula was used in sample selection, where a sample of 384 respondents was selected. A multivariate regression model was used to analyze data. Inferential and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the quantitative and qualitative data acquired in the research. \u0000Findings: The findings revealed that devolved Social Safety funds significantly and positively influence household welfare in Kenya. Most beneficiaries under study, particularly the elderly recorded a greater improvement in their welfare. \u0000Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Given the findings, it is recommended that the government of Kenya should increase the flow of these funds to target a larger proportion of the rural households. This will positively change the welfare of most vulnerable households, particularly in the rural areas.

In Uganda, poverty in rural areas had remained a challenge as depicted by 31 percent of population below poverty line as of financial year 2016/2017 (UBOS, 2018) having risen from 22.8 percent in financial year 2012/2013 (MoFPED, 2014). In Kisoro district, poverty was high as manifested by low household access to electricity (7.6%), piped water (33.7 %), high illiteracy levels, food insecurity, poor housing conditions where 84.6% of households lived in semi- permanent dwelling units (UBOS, 2017). The purpose of the study was to examine how human capital could contribute to poverty reduction in rural areas of Uganda taking in Kisoro district as a case study. \u0000Methodology: The study was carried out in Kisoro district on 391 respondents against the targeted 400 which represented 97.8 % response rate. The respondents included farmers, district technical staff, business entrepreneurs, agricultural industrialists, political, religious and opinion leaders. The study triangulated both quantitative and qualitative approaches and a cross- sectional survey was used. Data collection methods used included: survey, interviews, observations and review of primary and secondary documents; while the tools used were self-administered questionnaires, interview guide, interview schedule, observation plan and its checklist, a camera and a recorder. \u0000Findings: Education could significantly ensure rural poverty reduction in Kisoro district, with a positive and significant relationship between them (r = 0.415, p< 0.05). Education also explained 23.2% of the contribution on rural poverty reduction.Training had a significant effect on rural poverty reduction in Kisoro district with a positive and significant relationship between them (r = 0.267, p< 0.05). Training also explained 9.1% contribution to rural poverty reduction. There was significant relationship between human capital and rural poverty reduction in Kisoro district. It was concluded that human capital had a great contribution towards poverty reduction in rural areas. \u0000Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: The study recommended that; public education, research and development, science and technology and enabling policies could sustainably be promoted for enhanced productivity, poverty reduction and development.

It is therefore imperative to enhance adaptive capacity through climate smart agricultural (CSA) technologies. Access to finance is a significant enabler for adoption of CSA technologies yet small holder farmers, especially women, have an acute financing gap for agriculture. The purpose of the study was to characterize existing rural finance markets that can enhance adoption of Climate smart agricultural technologies among small holder farmers in Kenya and also improve the participation of other agricultural value chain actors in climate smart agricultural technologies. This was to enhance a better understanding of existing rural financial services available to agricultural value chain actors and the potential of the financial institutions to increase credit access to the value chain actors. \u0000Methodology: The study used cross sectional data gathered through questionnaires administered on farmers, rural financial institutions and other actors in eight, Kenya Climate Agricultural Project (KCSAP) counties in Kenya. Data was analyzed using Stata statistical package and presented using tables and figures. \u0000Findings: Rotating and savings credit associations (ROSCAs) were the main credit source for most households. Findings revealed that farmers rarely access insurance for their farming activities. Unlike farmers, other actors for instance, agro processors and agro dealers get loans through mobile phones where short term loans were borrowed from different providers. Majority of financial institutions were serving agricultural sector. \u0000Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: The study had presumed that access to rural financial market services by value chain actors in climate smart technologies for crops and livestock will be enhanced and this will increase adoption in the target Counties. The theory or assumption was validated in a workshop by all stakeholders which was followed up by linking up the value chain actors and the financial institutions through capacity building forums. Financial institutions could leverage on existing models used by ROSCAs to increase access to rural financial services especially by women and youth. A gender-transformative approach should be considered to increase women access to rural financial services.

Zahir
Purpose: Population is an important factor which plays a double role in the economic development of Pakistan. From one side it is related to labor force. The larger size of the population has to produce more amount of the labor force. When resources are presented in sufficient amount, then labor force can become beneficial to economic development. From the other side, the labor cannot produce anything alone, if resources are in scarce amount the afterwards larger workforce can become the obstacle to economic growth and development of Pakistan. There is a different opinion about the population growth and economic development. Some viewer says it is a real problem while the other says it is not an actual and real problem. On the basis of these views in this paper studied the population growth impact on development of Pakistan economy. \u0000Methodology: The study used secondary data by reviewing existing literature. \u0000Findings: It is found that high population creates so many economic, social, environmental, and sociological problem which adversely affect the economic growth and development of Pakistan. The study also revealed that the relationship between high populations and economic development could be satisfied only when the population and resources are increasing at the same rate and all the resources are to be utilized at full capacity, effective and competent method through the expert, and capable human resources in the countries like Pakistan. \u0000Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: The study recommended that the government should be well aware of the problem of population growth and make efforts to control through various population welfare programs like Family Welfare Centre, Mobile Service Units and Training Centers. These are significantly contribution in controlling population growth rate, fertility rate, maternal and infant mortality rate.

Displaced people are faced with being over-crowded in camps with the attendant consequences which include displaced children facing many dangers, especially if they have become separated from their families. Poor nutrition, poor sanitary conditions and inability to access health services make displaced persons prey to a host of diseases, most of which could be preventable. The study aim is to identify the socio-economic impacts resulting to devastating flood among internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Nigeria. \u0000Methodology: A cross sectional study involving 4 IDP camps in Kogi State. Information on social, economic and health impacts of the devastation was collected and data analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. A total of 660 respondents (100%) were interviewed in the study. The mean age was 37.1 years and 31.9% of respondents completed secondary school education. Majority were farmers (77.3%). Of the 357 (54.09%) who had children in school before the occurrence of the disaster, only 168 (25.46%) had children in school after the flooding. Over 61.4% lost their job, 51.2% were at risk of infectious diseases and 44.35% felt insecure in the camp. Only 19.72% IDPs had access to insecticide treated net. \u0000Findings: This study shows that IDPs face diverse challenges including food shortages, threats to health, financial constraints and psychological trauma as well as poor access to educational facilities for the children involved. \u0000Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Government should ensure that necessary facilities, first aid treatment and urgent medical treatment should never be denied to any internal displacement persons, regardless of the camps. To make funds available for the management of IDPs in Nigeria governments should solicit for donations and financial aids from more international bodies. They should also collaborate with more international humanitarian organizations for assistant.

In Africa, over $ 120 billion has been on spent on the vice thus affecting heragricultural sector consequently subjecting over 198,000,000 people to starvation and food insecurity. The Government efforts in mitigating the vice has bone no fruits as the number of deaths keeps on rising from an estimate of 7, 9 and 13 people in 2012, 2014 and 2016 respectively. The main objective was to assess the social and community effects of inter-ethnic conflicts on economic growth in Kenya. \u0000Methodology: Karl Marx’sConflict theory was adopted. A correlational research design was adopted.A population of 220 was considered. A response rate of 80.7% was realized thus affirming the significance and relevance of the data. The findings revealed that social issues had a negative effect with significant contribution to the economic growth (β=..666, p<.05) while community issues had a slightly weaker significant effect (β=.198,p<.05).Social and community issues of Inter-ethnic Conflicts had an effect on economic growth and accounted for 58.1% significant variance in economic growth (R square =.581, F(2, 217)=261.296, p=.000). \u0000Findings: The study concluded that the inter-ethnic conflicts in Nyando, Muhoroni and Tinderet sub-counties were the root causes of the stagnated economy. \u0000Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: The study recommended various approaches namely enactment of legislation that can enforce punitive actions against the perpetrators; adopting multiagency approach in curbing the vice; stakeholder involvement and engagement in finding a lasting solution to inter-ethnic conflicts; the national government, lands commission and the members of the community explores ways to deal with matters land. There are efforts by the national government to foster peace through the administrative units and the county governments so as to avoid ethnicity. Significant progress has also been observed over the government’s commitment to narrow down to perpetrators of violence and hate speech causing fights. Plans that are put in place to oversee execution of justice should be enhanced and effective to ensure persons that become victims receive justice. The findings may aide the economic and peace integration commission stakeholders in advising potential investors as well as the government on promoting peace in the area. Scholars could also benefit by coming up with a model and more information in the area for guiding new researchers.

Ghana has made a lot of improvement in expanding electricity infrastructure to its people. Yet, the actual effect of increasing electricity access on electricity consumption in Ghana is unknown. The main thrust of this paper was to estimate the effect of electricity access on the consumption of electricity in Ghana from 1990 to 2020. \u0000Methodology: This study employed a Vector Error Correction model to estimate the effect of electricity access on electricity consumption using data from 1990 to 2020. \u0000Findings: Results show that a one percent increase in access rate of electricity increases its consumption by 10.46 kwh per capita and 61.02 kwh per capita in the short-run and in the long-run respectively. Factors such as national income, population and the country’s human development index (HDI) were also found to be significant determinants of electricity consumption in Ghana. \u0000Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: It is also recommended that policies that encourage education among women must be enhanced to reduce their child bearing years, reduce population growth and reduce pressure on electricity infrastructure.

Despite such efforts, the child streetism has become the daily reality and has shown the sign of increasing. This dissertation is a study on the influence of poverty and family support on child streetism in urban Tanzania. Specifically, the study focused on analysing the lived experiences of street children; describing the influence of income poverty on streetism of children. \u0000Methodology: The study adopted interpretivism research paradigm using descriptive cross-sectional design and inductive research approach. It involved a total of 38 informants who were purposively selected while the snowballing sampling technique was used in accessing street children. Semi-structured interview, documentary review and observation method were conducted. \u0000Findings: Through thematic and content data analysis techniques, this study reveals that street children experienced difficulties in getting their basic needs and did not easily access health services when they fell sick. They also engaged into intra-violence among themselves. Further, child streetism has been largely influenced by income poverty. Regarding coping strategies, street children engaged into begging, unsafe sex and petty income-generating activities such as car wash and bottle collection. They also used self-medication to treat themselves when they fell sick or being left at the hospital buildings or on the street by their fellow street children when the condition got worse. \u0000Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Additionally, they did not have any coping strategy to enroll themselves into the school. The study also revealed that vulnerability and rational choice perspectives must be used in exploring the lived experienced of street children instead of using the vulnerability perspective alone. The rational choice perspective explains, among others, why street children sustain street life hardships and difficulties instead of going back to their families.
