We investigate to what extent models trained with these embeddings perform with respect to generic embeddings across four data sets of abusive language, both in the same domain and out of domain, using simple linear classifiers. Our results show that the polarised embeddings are competitive in the same domain data sets, and perform better in out of domain one.","PeriodicalId":193568,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction Workshops and Demos (ACIIW)","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121553909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, sexism as a form of discrimination towards women spread exponentially through the web and at a very high frequency, especially in the form of memes. Memes, which are typically composed of pictorial and textual components, can convey messages ranging from women stereotype, shaming, objectification to violence. In order to counterattack this phenomenon, in this paper we give a first insight in the field of automatic detection of sexist memes, by investigating both unimodal and multimodal approaches to understand the contribution of textual and visual cues.","PeriodicalId":193568,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction Workshops and Demos (ACIIW)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115836602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Living in two different countries, their mental representations are different and produce what we called a clash of contexts (“socio-cognitive misunderstanding”). The verbal dimension of the video was annotated by experts. The nonverbal, affective, dimension was tagged automatically. We found an interesting correlation between verbal and affective channels. Particularly, on both side, a kind of “Eureka effect” was detected as a key moment when learners understand each other and when their emotion changes, from frustration to happiness.","PeriodicalId":193568,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction Workshops and Demos (ACIIW)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132072281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For these cases, it is important to explore the intersection between speaker and emotion recognition tasks. A key challenge to address this problem is the lack of resources, since current emotional databases are commonly limited in size and number of speakers. This paper (1) creates the infrastructure to study this challenging problems, and (2) presents an exploratory analysis to evaluate the accuracy of state-of-the-art speaker and emotion recognition systems to automatically retrieve specific emotional behaviors from target speakers. We collected a pool of sentences from multiple speakers (132,930 segments), where some of these speaking turns belong to 146 speakers in the MSP-Podcast database. Our framework trains speaking verification models, which are used to retrieve candidate speaking turns from the pool of sentences. The emotional content in these sentences are detected using state-of-the-art emotion recognition algorithms. The experimental evaluation provides promising results, where most of the retrieved sentences belong to the target speakers and has the target emotion. The results highlight the need for emotional compensation in speaker recognition systems, especially if these models are intended for commercial applications.","PeriodicalId":193568,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction Workshops and Demos (ACIIW)","volume":"433 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114048609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A chiller system generally consists of evaporation side and condensing side. The condensing side includes chillers, cooling water pumps and cooling towers, which form a subsystem of cooling water. It is a typical optimization problem to minimize the total energy consumption of cooling water subsystem. This paper discusses how to solve the optimization problem of the cooling water subsystem and proposes a simple optimal control rule for field operation based on the optimization results.","PeriodicalId":193568,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction Workshops and Demos (ACIIW)","volume":"253 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122132607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Oxytocin has been correlated with social partner preference, and it is hypothesised to influence prosocial behaviours. In this paper, we investigate the effects of modulating the preference of affective social bond partners through oxytocin during decisions related to food-sharing and grooming, in a society of simulated agents with different dominance ranks. Our results show survival benefits for agents with affective social bonds across a number of groups with different bond combinations. We observe a number of emergent social behaviours and suggest that our results bear some similarity with behaviors observed in biological agents.","PeriodicalId":193568,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction Workshops and Demos (ACIIW)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116878422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This simulation runs on a mobile phone, which can be placed in an AR headset to provide the experience of having prosthetic phosphene vision to individuals with normal vision. This setup allows the participants to experience the future of cortical visual neuroprostheses, while allowing us to evaluate and compare different signal processing algorithms to provide guidelines for the optimal perceptual experience. In this demo we will show how intelligent algorithms can improve the quality of perception with prosthetic vision with an image processing pipeline that allows for accurate emotion expression recognition.","PeriodicalId":193568,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction Workshops and Demos (ACIIW)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122957592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lopez","doi":"10.1109/ACIIW.2019.8925184","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ACIIW.2019.8925184","url":null,"abstract":"Predominant thermal comfort provision technologies are energy-hungry, and yet they perform crudely because they overlook the requisite precursors to thermal comfort. They also fail to exclusively cool or heat the parts of the body (e.g., the wrist, the feet, and the head) that influence the most a person's thermal comfort satisfaction. Instead, they waste energy by heating or cooling the whole room. This research investigates the influence of neck-coolers on people's thermal comfort perception and proposes an effective method that delivers thermal comfort depending on people's heart rate variability (HRV). Moreover, because thermal comfort is idiosyncratic and depends on unforeseeable circumstances, only person-specific thermal comfort models are adequate for this task. Unfortunately, using person-specific models would be costly and inflexible for deployment in, e.g., a smart building because a system that uses person-specific models would require collecting extensive training data from each person in the building. As a compromise, we devise a hybrid, cost-effective, yet satisfactory technique that derives a personalized person-specific-like model from samples collected from a large population. For example, it was possible to double the accuracy of a generic model (from 47.77% to 96.11%) using only 400 person-specific calibration samples. Finally, we propose a practical implementation of a real-time thermal comfort provision system that uses this strategy and highlighted its advantages and limitations.","PeriodicalId":193568,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction Workshops and Demos (ACIIW)","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126032480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is commonly diagnosed and studied with specialized questionnaires and behavioral tests. However, in cases of late-onset or mild forms of ADHD, behavioral measures often fail to gauge the deficiencies well-highlighted by questionnaires. This lack of sensitivity in behavioral tests is problematic because it prevents researchers from studying pathophysiology of ADHD ranging from normal to abnormal. To improve the sensitivity of behavioral tests, in the present study we propose a novel version of the Stop-signal task (SST) - a common behavioral test of ADHD - which integrates machine learning and mouse cursor tracking (ML-SST). In one experiment, we compared ML-SST and a standard version of SST (s-SST) in their ability to detect ADHD symptoms in an adult sample. Our results indicate that introducing mouse cursor tracking and ridge regression produces the strongest and most stable associations between questionnaire data and behavioral measures.","PeriodicalId":193568,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction Workshops and Demos (ACIIW)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125190414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The interactive setting under which a stream operates is enriched with social signals, conveyed between streamers and viewers via facial expressions, body movement, vocal cues, as well as written language. We consider the data sources involved in a typical broadcast (e.g., camera stream, game footage, text) as data-views that carry inherent correlations, since they all describe events occurring during a stream. We argue that this unique interactive setting facilitates the joint, multi-view analysis of human behaviour in groups, utilizing the various heterogeneous data sources involved in a coherent and self-contained manner. We elaborate on the emergence of social signals in this setting, while discussing close links and potential research directions related to areas such as affective computing, machine learning, computer vision and intelligent game design.","PeriodicalId":193568,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction Workshops and Demos (ACIIW)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130771208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
