This paper uses the GIS approach to map the shoreline of mainland Mauritius according to their sensitivity to spilled oil on a 1:25000 scale. The different shore types found (eleven of them) along the coastline were ranked according to their sensitivity. From the full map, we can compute the sensitivity/mean sensitivity of selected regions and the % shore length of each shore type. Also, the most sensitive zones could be spotted; the sensitivity being the least where the coral reef is the least. Further sensitivity ranking takes into account the biological resources and the socio-economic resources. These together with oil spill model capable of predicting the movement, spreading, weathering and shoreline impact of spilt oil under the influence of current flows, weather and wave climates constitutes an important step towards the development of the marine oil spill information system for Mauritius (MOSISM).","PeriodicalId":193510,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2003","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128162702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Depending on the reliability required, it consists of two or more left and right switching amplifier half-bridges. These so called \"hot swap modules\" (HSMs) are connected in parallel, each with its own error detection and decoupling circuitry. If an error occurs in an HSM, it is autonomously switched off and disconnects itself from the AMB-actuator, while the remaining, fully functioning HSMs take over the required current. The faulty HSM can be replaced by a functioning one during full operation of the AMB in a hot-swap procedure. For recognition of HSM-errors the functions of several components on each HSM are monitored, for example IGBT and diodes of the half-bridge and the correct operation of the error detection circuitry. To test the basic functionality of this concept along with the behaviour during component-faults extensive simulations with PSpice were carried out. Simulation results allow an efficient and reliable design of the error detection circuitry.","PeriodicalId":193510,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2003","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127972012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the paper the comparison of classical Fourier/statistical methods for analysis and characterisation of EN were compared by wavelet based methods. The approximation properties of discrete wavelet transform (DWT) using smooth and fractal-like wavelets were compared for EN-signals. There were found very little differences in approximation rates for both corrosion processes EN-signals. It was shown that DWT enable additional time-frequency characterisation of broadband EN-signals.","PeriodicalId":193510,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2003","volume":"171 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133945947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present paper, the authors have made an effort to decouple the flux and motion dynamics for independent control of attraction and propulsion forces. This control strategy allows high performance to be achieved from LlM. The present paper deals with the performance investigation of LlM driven by three Pl controllers using commercially available software package Matlab/Simulink.","PeriodicalId":193510,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2003","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133460664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ethernet in general is not deterministic due to its media access control (CSMA/CD) and its behaviour under transient overload is not sufficient for any real-time application. On the other hand, when the applications have predictable and bounded number of requests, behaviour of Ethernet is \"nearly\" real-time (very low probability of delayed data delivery). Ethernet is very attractive for the automation area due to its availability and low implementation cost. This article uses a simulation approach since it offers more flexibility, especially for large networks. The simulation results are compared to analytical ones.","PeriodicalId":193510,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2003","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128909744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By multiresolution analysis, the original wheel acceleration signal is decomposed into approximation parts and detail parts at several levels. After this decomposition, the noise containing in the wheel acceleration signal is stored in the detail parts. From the noise-free approximation parts, the wheel acceleration tendency can be estimated and differentiated to identify the wheel slip tendency. A fuzzy adhesion controller is then proposed to locomotive anti-slip control. The simulation results show the application of wavelet transform to the slip tendency identification paves a new way to effectively avoid false slip identification, and enhance the fully utilization of adhesive force.","PeriodicalId":193510,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2003","volume":"294 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131859283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are online viscosity analyzers available on the market, but their prices are quite high and their reliabilities could be quit low. Possible solution to this problem is development and application of so-called soft sensors, which estimate lube oil viscosities based on available easy-to-measure variables. In this paper we consider the application of neural networks for viscosities estimation of lube oils on the vacuum unit at INA Rijeka lube oil refinery. The proposed soft sensors, based on neural networks, are of nonlinear finite impulse response structure, where their inputs are temperatures and flow-rates of the distillates. Although developed soft sensors do not demonstrate high accuracy they can be used to track trends of the output viscosities, and based on that information plant operators can take proper actions with more certainty. It is to expect some improvements in sensors behavior with arrival of new input/output data.","PeriodicalId":193510,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2003","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117029591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our research is aimed at implementation techniques of robust control in PLC. A robust control is based on Petri Net modelling; scheduling sequence is described by PN model, equations for on-line control are derived by structural analysis. It helps us to explore the margins of capacity in order to cope with unpredictable perturbation of a sequence, whose interval of cyclic solution is calculated. The equations describing the PN model and the transport cycle of the PN are implemented in PLC by the technique proposed.","PeriodicalId":193510,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2003","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123212388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
