A region adjacency graph is constructed by representing regions as vertices and connecting these vertices that are spatially close by edges. Then, dissimilarities between neighboring vertices are computed using statistical and structural features, and are assigned as edge weights. Finally, the compound structures are detected by extracting the connected components of the graph whose edges with relatively large weights are removed. Experiments using WorldView-2 images show that grouping of these vertices according to different criteria can extract high-level compound structures that cannot be obtained using traditional techniques.","PeriodicalId":193438,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126187141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One RADARSAT-2 scene was acquired on February 15, 2011 and three processing chains were tested to accomplish this task. It was found that the Lee and Pottier [2, 4] method and more specifically the information imbedded in the class distribution offers a great potential. While some environments such as sea water or a city may be sorted out using a single class, the more diverse range of mechanisms involved into the backscattering processes in icefoot and peat bog areas make the class distribution a better indicator to automatically extract the icefoot.","PeriodicalId":193438,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121906600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, the theoretical models which links the interferometric pattern, recorded Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) reciever on RHCP, with the soil moisture and the attenuation of electromagnetic wave in forest canopy is presented. It is shown, that the interference pattern is recorded by GNSS receiver on the RHCP, weakly dependent on the moisture and surface roughness of the soil. At the same time retrieved value of soil moisture has an error of the order of the measured value. The weak dependence of the interference pattern, recorded by the GNSS receiver on the RHCP, from the properties of the underlying surface, for the first time have been used to measure the attenuation coefficient of the forest canopy.","PeriodicalId":193438,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122257072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The change of glacier mass is locally depending on e.g. precipitation, melting and variation in ice flow. In this paper we analyze the data acquired by ICESat/GLAS laser altimetry, along several tracks over the glaciers of the Nyainqêntanglha range from February, 2003 to November, 2004. The surface characteristics are evaluated within laser footprints over the glacier outlines based on the glaciological inventory on the Tibetan Plateau constructed by CAREERI, CAS. For this purpose, we extract two waveform parameters: the waveform width and the number of modes. These parameters are compared with surface slope and roughness obtained from the ASTER GDEM (Global Digital Elevation Model).","PeriodicalId":193438,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium","volume":"102 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134256660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two pairs of pyranometers were attached to the helicopter on either side and a wide-optics camera was looking orthogonally downwards for LAI retrieval. The albedo depended on the LAI according to a previously developed model. The measurement altitude did not affect the albedo vs. LAI relationship. The winter time albedo value of snow varied in a wide range both seasonally and diurnally. The albedo values of open areas could also differ from each other distinctly during the same day depending on the land cover class.","PeriodicalId":193438,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium","volume":"25 7","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114020878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is important for understanding and evaluating ecological efficiency to study net primary productivity of vegetation in Northwest China. In this paper, Gansu Province was selected in Northwest China to study vegetation NPP based on adjusted boreal ecosystem productivity simulator (A-BEPS) model in arid and semi-arid regions. Net primary productivity of vegetation was simulated in Gansu Province from the year of 2002 to 2010 with moderate resolution remote sensing imageries and meteorological data. And then, spatial-temporal distribution patterns of average NPP were analyzed in Gansu Province from the year of 2002 to 2010. The results show that it is high in the south and low in the north for spatial distribution, and obviously seasonal characteristics are got in Gansu Province. Finally, the trends of averaged NPP for three vegetation types and relative meteorological factors were analyzed for the past nine years. The results of a little decreasing NPP and precipitation are got for Gansu province.","PeriodicalId":193438,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123451852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the dependence of this statistic on a rotation of the linear polarization basis is considered. On the one hand, a theoretical model is proposed, which enables the numerical simulation of the wavelet variance of the crosspol and copol power synthesized in the rotated basis, given the power spectra of the feature vector in the H,V basis. On the other hand, experimental analysis of polarimetric SAR data is undertaken using wavelet variance estimates as a function of scale and polarization state. Results are encapsulated in a graphical form called the wavelet scaling polarimetric signature (WASPS).","PeriodicalId":193438,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123680578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Key points of the novel method, which falls in the category of component substitution (CS) methods, are optimization of the intensity component, achieved through multivariate regression of Pan to MS, and adjustment of the modulus of the spatial detail vector to be injected, based on a minimization of spatial distortion. Spatial distortion is measured at full scale according to the QNR protocol on land cover classes defined by NDVI thresholding. Experiments carried out on IKONOS data demonstrate that results are competitive with those of the most advanced methods, with a computational complexity comparable with that of Brovey transform fusion, which is the baseline version of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":193438,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125696180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the characterization of soil surface roughness a photogrametric measurement device was used and roughness was measured simultaneous to SAR observation made by ERS-2 and TerraSAR-X. As this study mainly confirmed and consolidated the findings of the previous Flashing Fields studies, major progress was made in in the understanding of the impact of soil surface roughness on the flashing phenomenon. It could be concluded, that besides the row orientation, certain roughness conditions could significantly alter the flashing effect.","PeriodicalId":193438,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131558347","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results indicate that the spectral angle cosine-Euclidean distance method demonstrates the most superior ability to distinguish various land cover types among five methods because it fully utilizes both the spectral amplitude and shape feature in the hyperspectral data. A combination of the spectral amplitude-sensitive method and the shape-sensitive method will effectively improve the identification accuracy of different land cover types. These evaluation results can be used to guide the selection of an optimal similarity measure method for automatic classification with hyperspectral data.","PeriodicalId":193438,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125081384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
