Vaccination of pregnant women against COVID-19 has been recommended globally. In Zambia, there is a paucity of information on the knowledge, attitude, acceptance, and perceived risks of COVID-19 vaccines among pregnant women. Therefore, this study assessed the knowledge, attitude, acceptance, and perceived risks of COVID-19 vaccination among pregnant women attending antenatal care at Women and Newborn Hospital (WNH) of the University Teaching Hospitals (UTHs) in Lusaka, Zambia. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted from August 2023 to October 2023 among 300 pregnant women attending antenatal care at Women and Newborn Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analysed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23.0. The Chi-square test was used to test the relationship between the dependent and independent variables. The statistical significance was at a 95% confidence level. Results: Of the 300 participants, 186 (62.0%) were aged between 24 and 34 years and 185 (61.5%) were aware that the COVID-19 vaccine was recommended in pregnancy. Overall, 284 (94.7%) had good knowledge, 258 (86.0%) had a positive attitude, and 186 (62.0%) were vaccinated. Additionally, 20 (17.5%) who were not vaccinated were willing to be vaccinated. Furthermore, most of the participants felt that COVID-19 vaccines were safe to use in pregnancy. The results show a lower vaccine acceptance compared to the knowledge and attitude levels. Having good knowledge and a positive attitude was associated with education status (X^2=33.011, p=0.001 for knowledge level) and (X^2=9.132, p=0.029 for attitude level). Conclusion: This study found that pregnant women attending antenatal care at WNH had good knowledge, positive attitudes, good perceptions, and high acceptance of ..........","PeriodicalId":193141,"journal":{"name":"SAS Journal of Medicine","volume":"102 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139391097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: We report the results of a retrospective and descriptive single-center study of 32 cases of supraventricular tachycardia carried out in the cardiology department of the Cheikh Khalifa University Hospital over a period of 2 years: from January 2020 to January 2022.We studied in this work the epidemiological, clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic characteristics of these tachycardias. The results of our series are compared with those of the literature. Results: The age of the patients varies between 27 and 80 years with an average age of 58.1 years with a sex ratio M/F=1.6. All patients were symptomatic with the presence of palpitations in 87.5% of cases accompanied by dyspnea in 40.62% of cases, Chest pain and lipothymia were present in 15.62% and Syncope was found in 2 patients 6.25% of cases. Endocavitary electrophysiological exploration has proven to be important in defining the mechanism of these tachycardias, in this case tachycardias with one-to-one conduction; In our series, it confirmed the presence of a typical atrial flutter in 53% of cases, and objectified tachycardia by intranodal reentry in 28.12% of cases and less frequently reentry by accessory route, identified in 18.75% of cases. In this series, radiofrequency represents the energy most used in the management of these supraventricular tachycardias. Conclusion: Conventional fluoroscopy was the most widely used given the typical nature of these SVTs (84.6% of cases) while three-dimensional mapping was only used in 12.5% of patients who were admitted for recurrences. The low risk of complications and the high success rates revealed in our series make ablation a reference treatment, which has made it possible to change the prognosis of supraventricular tachycardias.","PeriodicalId":193141,"journal":{"name":"SAS Journal of Medicine","volume":"94 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139390476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are multiple techniques described for its treatment, with one of the most recent being the implantation of a subacromial balloon. We report a case of a 31-year-old patient from North Africa, admitted to the Department of Nephrology for exploration of proteinuria at 1.2g/24h associated with renal failure at 21mg/l of plasma creatinine in a context of chronic hypokalemia around 2.5mEq/l. The nephropathy check up didn’t show anything particular. The renal biopsy performed revealed renal tubes with vacuolation of the epithelium, with the presence of a few hyaline casts. The interstitial tissue showed minimal fibrosis and a moderate inflammatory infiltrate composed of lymphocytes and histiocytes, all easing the diagnosis of hypokalemic nephropathy. The patient was treated with potassium supplementation in combination with an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACE inhibitor). The evolution was marked by a progressive improvement of renal function going from an glomerular filtration rate (GFR) of 28 ml/min (at admission) to 55 ml/min after 6 months, with negativation of proteinuria. Although the hypokalemic nephropathy seems to have disappeared, it must be considered in the face of any alteration of renal function in a context of chronic hypokalemia. Histology is essential to confirm the diagnosis.","PeriodicalId":193141,"journal":{"name":"SAS Journal of Medicine","volume":"107 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139010678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
