Stereotactic techniques, including stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), have emerged as promising options for managing recurrent NPC. These techniques deliver highly precise radiation doses to the tumor while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues, maximizing tumor control, and reducing side effects. This review explored the current evidence and clinical outcomes of stereotactic techniques in managing recurrent NPC. A systematic review was conducted using PubMed as the primary database, and 58 relevant articles were analyzed. The selected studies demonstrated the efficacy of stereotactic techniques, with high response rates and favorable local control and survival rates reported in various cohorts. However, the review also noted the potential risk of complications associated with stereotactic techniques, including late toxicities such as radionecrosis or hemorrhage. While the studies showed promising results, the level of evidence was primarily based on retrospective analyses and some pilot and prospective studies, highlighting the need for further validation and longer-term follow-up. More research is required to establish optimal protocols, minimize risks, and further understand the role of these techniques in improving patient outcomes.","PeriodicalId":193141,"journal":{"name":"SAS Journal of Medicine","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114197921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patients and Methods: This is a prospective monocentric cross-sectional study of 332 patients conducted between June2020 and August 2021.We considered as users of AT drugs all patients on antiplatelet agents (low-dose aspirin, thienopyrimidines) and/or anticoagulants (vitamin K antagonists, direct-acting anticoagulants, heparin). Results: The average age was 59+/−16.7 years. Our series was characterised by a clear male predominance of 77.1%.63 patients (19%) were taking AT drugs (41 antiplatelet, 39 anticoagulant). The two groups differed in age (68 vs 57; p<0.001), comorbidities (75.8% vs 16.7%; p<0.001), however there was no statistically significant difference in active bleeding at endoscopy (12.7%vs 16.8%; p=0.425), and the need for endoscopic haemostasis (7.9%vs 16%; p=0.1).In multivariate analysis and adjusting for age, sex, comorbidities, presence of active bleeding and use of antithrombotics, only the presence of active bleeding could predict the need for endoscopic haemostasis. Indeed, the presence of active bleeding at the time of endoscopy multiplies by 26 the risk of recourse to endoscopic haemostasis (OR: 26, CI: 12.9–62.15, p<0.001), whereas the use of AT drugs does not influence the need for endoscopic haemostasis (OR: 0.386, CI: 0.105- 1.42, p=0.154). Conclusions: Older patients using AT admitted for UGIB do not appear to have an increased risk of active bleeding at endoscopy or needing endoscopic haemostasis.","PeriodicalId":193141,"journal":{"name":"SAS Journal of Medicine","volume":"217 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131495759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If gastroesophageal reflux occurs regularly then symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD can develop. Typical gastroesophageal reflux symptoms (RS) are often defined as heartburn/discomfort or a feeling that stomach contents could reflux into the oesophagus. Gastroesophageal RS are commonly managed by making dietary and lifestyle changes but may also require the use of antacid tablets or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Two cases are presented where the effects of consuming iceberg lettuce (IL) on the severity of RS, classified as mild, medium or severe, are reported. It was found for both patients, IL consumed after a meal could resolve mild RS, resolve or reduce the severity of moderate RS, and reduce the severity of severe RS to mild or moderate symptoms, but not resolve them.","PeriodicalId":193141,"journal":{"name":"SAS Journal of Medicine","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124508017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Alopecia in women can lead to a loss of self-esteem leading to depression and thus alter the quality of life. Better knowledge of the etiologies will make it possible to prevent certain types of alopecia in women and to improve case management. The aim of this work is to study the causes of alopecia in women aged 15 to 45 in the dermatology department of the National Center for Support in the Fight against Disease (CNAM). Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study from February 2018 to February 2019, all women aged 15 to 45 consulting in the service during the study period. Case definition: alopecia any patient between the ages of 15 and 45 consulting for localized or diffuse hair loss. Results: We recruited 102 cases of alopecia out of 7223 women, i.e. a prevalence of 1.41%. The 25-35 age group represented 39%, with an average age of 28. Married women numbered 48, or 47.06%. Civil servants accounted for 28.43%. 87.25% of cases resided in urban areas. The duration of disease progression ranged from 1-12 months for 48.04% to 1-3 years for 36.28% and more than 3 years for 15.68%. The styling practices found in our cases: weaving, straightening, additions, represented respectively (97.06%, 53.92%, 72.54%); braids with addition every 04 weeks was practiced by 30 of our cases. Potash was used by 72.54% of cases for straightening. Our patients straightened their hair at a periodic rate of 3 months for 31.51% of cases, a rate of 6 months for 26.03% of cases. Alopecia was frontal seat, Traumatic alopecia was found in 33.33% of subjects practicing straightening. Rural women suffered from inflammatory causes (P=0.00005). Close straightening sessions expose to the risk of traumatic alopecia (P=0.03). Conclusion: The etiologies of alopecia are dominated by traumatic causes. The study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of MIS-THA compared to traditional open surgery, focusing on postoperative pain, functional improvement, complications, and patient satisfaction. A retrospective analysis was conducted on a cohort of 20 patients who underwent MIS-THA. The results showed significant improvements in postoperative pain levels and functional outcomes among patients who underwent MIS-THA. The MIS approach demonstrated reduced tissue trauma, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery times compared to traditional open surgery. Complication rates were also found to be lower in the MIS-THA group. Additionally, patient satisfaction scores were higher in the MIS-THA group, highlighting the positive impact of this technique on patient experience. The findings of this study support the use of MIS in THA as a viable alternative to traditional open surgery. The benefits of MIS include reduced postoperative pain, improved functional outcomes, shorter hospitalization, and enhanced patient satisfaction. These results have important implications for clinical practice, as MIS-THA can contribute to improved patient outcomes and cost-effective healthcare delivery.","PeriodicalId":193141,"journal":{"name":"SAS Journal of Medicine","volume":"351 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123387580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although liver damage is often mild and self-limiting, only a few cases of severe EBV-induced cholestatic hepatitis and jaundice have been reported in the literature. EBV infection should be considered as part of the differential diagnosis in patients with an obstructive pattern on liver function tests without evidence of biliary obstruction demonstrated on advanced imaging.
