Gavat","doi":"10.1109/EURCON.2007.4400336","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/EURCON.2007.4400336","url":null,"abstract":"In the first part of this paper a recognizer based on hidden Markov models (HMMs) is compared in the simple task of vowel recognition with a recognizer based on the multilayer perceptron (MLP). In this situation, we have obtained better results for the last recognizer, fact which highlights the advantage of the discriminative training of the perceptron versus the maximum likelihood training of the HMM. Because MLPs have problems with accommodating time sequences like speech, a combination of a HMM with a MLP could be a good idea. In the second part of the paper, the hybrid structure HMMMLP is compared with the simple HMM in a digit recognition task. The hybrid structure has recognition rates improved with around 2%. In the last part of the paper are describes the continuous speech recognition experiments for Romanian language, by using HMM modelling. The progresses concern enhancement of modelling by taking into account the context in form of triphones, improvement of speaker independence by applying a gender specific training and enlargement of the feature categories used to describe speech sequences. Four coefficient sets are obtained via DWT for four subimages gained by subsampling an original image. Because of the neighborhood correlation of image pixels, the coefficient sets are approximately equal. Due to the good learning and generalization capability in the processing of small-sample learning problems, SVR is applied to model the relationship between the coefficient on the random selected coefficient set and the coefficients on the corresponding position of others. Then, the watermark is embedded into part of the low frequency coefficients or extracted by adjusting or comparing the relationship between the embedding coefficient and the output of the trained SVR. For the dynamic simulation, two or more describing systems of differential equations have to be established according to the different states of the desired model. As an example, a modified \"boost\"-type DC-to-DC converter circuit with a tapped inductor is used. The two main states of the circuit are selected by turning the active switch on or off, respectively. Other states are activated in special situations, e.g. at negative or too large flux values. For already identified security vulnerabilities in a wireless environment, such as MANET, a set of countermeasures were proposed. However, only a few of them provide an anonymity guaranty which is an orthogonal to security critical challenge we faced in this paper. We present a new distributed reputation system designed for the anonymous authentication protocol in mobile ad hoc networks (ANAP). The reputation system is incorporated for a trust management and malicious behavior detection in the network where an anonymity support is a major objective. One is the analysis method from the bottom-up viewpoint, and the other is the method based on the top-down viewpoint. The former is a method structurally based on the physical mechanism existing in the phenomena. The latter method lays the stress on a functional viewpoint connected with the human response to environmental phenomena, in order to obtain an evaluation of the phenomena even in cases of an unknown or uncertain structural mechanism. In this study, from the latter viewpoint, we propose a signal processing method utilizing fuzzy theory to be applied to actual electromagnetic and sound environmental phenomena. In this paper, Pareto analysis is used to compare three methods of designing controllers for integrating second order plus dead time processes -a problem that has been discussed in the literature. The analysis shows that, in the example chosen, superior performance can be attained by adjusting the approach to tuning controllers. Solutions found by Pareto analysis that improve performance may be directly implemented. The quality of compressed images, however, is marginally reduced at higher compression ratios due to the lossy nature of DCT compression, thus, the need for finding an optimum DCT compression ratio. An ideal image compression system must yield high quality compressed images with good compression ratio, while maintaining minimum time cost. Neural networks perform well in simulating non-linear relationships. This paper suggests that a neural network could be trained to recognize an optimum ratio for DCT compression of an image upon presenting the image to the network. The neural network associates the image intensity with its compression ratios in search for an optimum ratio.
