To this effect, the performance of three neural network architectures has been evaluated through simulation to determine the optimal performance algorithm that can be applied to these new applications, such as location based-services (LBS). The results indicate that neural networks having self-organizing characteristics quickly learn to adapt to the rapid changing radio environment as opposed to other architectures which take much longer. Typical figures indicate that this family of neural networks reaches performance advantages of 45% and above when compared to other neural families making then the ideal candidates for such applications.","PeriodicalId":191423,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON 2007 - The International Conference on \"Computer as a Tool\"","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134296733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The state variable method, initially applied for the automated systems study, has many other applications. One of them, presented in this paper, consists in a quick determination of the frequencies for which the harmonic impedance, as seen from a power network bus, exhibits poles (maximums - corresponding to parallel resonance) and zeroes (minimurns -corresponding to series resonance). The comparison of these frequencies with those of the harmonic currents - present in the network - allows a quick evaluation of the harmonics amplifying risk. The paper also presents the results of applying this method at the evaluation of the harmonic resonance frequencies on a transmission line, results later compared with those obtained with a classical method -the inversion of the network admittance matrix.","PeriodicalId":191423,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON 2007 - The International Conference on \"Computer as a Tool\"","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115634958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two models are used to simulate the natural signals of heart; these models are used for the assessment of ECG signal processing methods because they have the same characteristics of the natural signals. Another application is the simulation of some cardiac phenomena and abnormalities such as Normocardia, Bradycardia and Tachycardia. The proposed method gives sharp clear threshold between Normocardia, Bradycardia and Tachycardia.","PeriodicalId":191423,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON 2007 - The International Conference on \"Computer as a Tool\"","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114359561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fatigue behavior of metals shows temperature profiles with three stages: an initial increase of the specimen mean temperature region, a constant (equilibrium) temperature region, an abrupt temperature increase region at end of which the specimen fails and its temperature falls instantly. In order to recognize critical third region, it is necessary to observe endurance state of the specimen being tested. In this study, the temperature profiles of the specimen under testing are recorded by thermal camera and transferred to the image processing program. The artificial neural networks obtain spot temperatures of the inspected specimen by using its temperature profiles. By analyzing the values of obtained data, we detect spots of highest temperatures as ones that are exposed to most intensive deformation. These regions considered to be probable crack initiation sites.","PeriodicalId":191423,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON 2007 - The International Conference on \"Computer as a Tool\"","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114710304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A typical resonant left-handed (LH) microstrip line, composed of complementary split ring resonators (CSSR) and capacitive gaps in the microstrip, exhibits a pass-band behavior. However, a significant shift between the measured and simulated values of the central frequency of the pass-band always occurs. The proposed solution uses network information such as Cell-ID and transmitted signal strength, which are easily captured by current 3G mobile handsets, as input to a location detection algorithm which searches the whole network coverage area for the most probable point of origin. This search is performed within a software model of the radio network, which faithfully replicates the provider's live network. The algorithm was optimized through the application of a genetic algorithm to provide an estimate of the user's location in quasi real-time. Simulation results demonstrate that allowing for a 450 m error, the algorithm is capable of locating the user's position in 72% of the cases within an urban environment.","PeriodicalId":191423,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON 2007 - The International Conference on \"Computer as a Tool\"","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115002500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
