Obviously, as a multi-carrier modulation technique, it's inherently high Peak to Average power Ratio (PAR) is one of the most obstacles facing OFDM to be used for mobile wireless applications. In this paper we introduce a novel approach to solve this problem by using one of the continuous phase modulation techniques, which is the MSK in OFDM, and we will extend to N-MSK for boosting the spectral efficiency and maintaining PAR in an acceptable range. Finally, we prove that the use of N-MSK into OFDM has numerous advantages compared to the conventional use of M-QAM into OFDM through Matlab simulations of the proposed system models to compare between MSK and N-MSK (N=2, 3, 4) to be used for OFDM. Also we highlight the benefits of using N-MSK over M-QAM Modulators into OFDM with the same spectral efficiency.","PeriodicalId":191423,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON 2007 - The International Conference on \"Computer as a Tool\"","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114256500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They have become the training method and the tool to acquire valuable information for many medical students and medical practitioners. The real-time interactive collision detection is an important problem that must be addressed to make such simulators more realistic. In this regard, this paper addresses the issue of precise collision detection between virtual objects and proposes a new technique. First, the convex hull of each object is constructed. Then, the problem is formulated and a linear programming solution is obtained to determine whether a collision exists or not. The algorithm is tested on a medical application. The proposed collision detection approach is compared with two conventional algorithms namely the IVRI-CD and SWIFT techniques and validated using a 3D wrist model. A Haptic feedback system is implemented for evaluation purposes. The results show that the proposed approach is efficient, accurate, fast and robust in detecting collision between virtual objects during training and experimenting surgery.","PeriodicalId":191423,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON 2007 - The International Conference on \"Computer as a Tool\"","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129612531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In which a new strategy for the computation of the diffusion item in the model is introduced that induces edge-preserving regularization thus also facilitate the image segmentation. Different from the previous approaches, at each iteration, the smoothing item in proposed algorithm is computed along an approximate contour that is obtained based on the difference between the two unknown functions u and u\" that have been extended to the whole image domain. And a narrowband of the approximate contour also is given to reduce the area of the region to be smoothed. As a result, good edge preserving properties have been achieved. The improved approach not only addresses some drawbacks of the original algorithm such as the effect of the local characteristics of images on the curve evolving path and initial curve's effect on the segmentation results, but save computational cost greatly. The resulting algorithm has been implemented with Visual C++6.0, and several experimental results have been provided and compared with the original method. The result demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":191423,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON 2007 - The International Conference on \"Computer as a Tool\"","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123952702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When SVMs are applied to phoneme recognition, the large number of classes within this data set limits the practical use of these learning machines. In this paper we present the application of the centered binary tree of SVMs (c-BTS) algorithm, which is a multi-category classifier, to phoneme recognition. To enhance its capabilities, the c-BTS algorithm has been modified by using different posterior probability measurements to build the binary tree. The proposed algorithm has been tested through simulations on a number of phonemes taken from the TIMIT database. Results show that the proposed modification enhances the accuracy of the c-BTS algorithm while maintaining comparable computation times during testing. Moreover, this solution offers equivalent accuracies to other multiclass recognition methods.","PeriodicalId":191423,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON 2007 - The International Conference on \"Computer as a Tool\"","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121177182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The motor is fed from one end with a conventional two-level inverter and from the other end with a three level inverter, realised by cascading two conventional two-level inverters. The inverters are fed with asymmetrical DC link voltages. A simple linear PWM control scheme up to 18-step mode is proposed, based only on the motor reference phase amplitudes. The present scheme does not require complicated signal processing and control loop, as in the case of PWM scheme with conventional hexagonal voltage space vector structure, in over modulation regions. The proposed scheme gives and increased modulation range with the elimination of 5th 7th 11th and 13th order harmonics, when compared to any conventional schemes.","PeriodicalId":191423,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON 2007 - The International Conference on \"Computer as a Tool\"","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121191774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
