Nowadays, the high and accelerating rates of urban changes and urban area growth especially in developing countries need efficient and fast techniques for map production and revision with appropriate accuracy. Thus, the mapping potentials of image interpretation from the single IKONOS image has been thoroughly examined for three main elements including completeness, geometric and its positional identification on features identification. The evaluation and the differences between stereo digitizing and mono digitizing are also outlined. The experience gained from this research will highlight the future role of the existing technology towards mapping production in large scale specifications for various mapping applications and also may contribute significantly to the topographical data collection and map revision process.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121098418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A lot of work had been done to obtain a method to determine typical load profiles (TLPs) of electricity consumers. Load profiles represents consumers electricity consumption pattern and provide useful data to both consumer and electricity provider. This paper presents the TLPs determination through clustering technique by using Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) algorithm. Two of the most important parameters in FCM are fuzziness parameter, m and optimal number of cluster, c. This paper shows the determination of the suitable fuzziness parameter through observation of experimental result of the cluster validity indexes value. Cluster validity indexes were used to determine c. Three cluster validity indexes were discussed in this paper. They are Xie-Beni index, Non-fuzzy index and Davies-Bouldin index. Objectives of this paper are to obtain groups of TLPs by using FCM clustering and to determine the suitable value of the fuzziness parameter, m. The data used in this project are obtained from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122417529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These tests are filtered down through the tree to get the right output to the input pattern. Decision Tree algorithms can be applied and used in various different fields. It can be used as a replacement for statistical procedures to find data, to extract text, to find missing data in a class, to improve search engines and it also finds various applications in medical fields. Many Decision tree algorithms have been formulated. They have different accuracy and cost effectiveness. It is also very important for us to know which algorithm is best to use. The ID3 is one of the oldest Decision tree algorithms. It is very useful while making simple decision trees but as the complications increases its accuracy to make good Decision trees decreases. Hence IDA (intelligent decision tree algorithm) and C4.5 algorithms have been formulated.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"211 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126096333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tall objects such as buildings and sudden relief changes will lead to problems where hidden objects arise, due to the relief displacement caused by the perspective planes. Several images are needed to get full coverage of the area which is also used in filling up the occluded area. These issues are often discussed by many researchers in order to reduce or even eliminate the problems. In this paper, the research on certain techniques used to overcome such matters will be elaborated.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128035500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Flood disaster usually happens due to improper irrigation method in a housing area or the sudden increase of water volume in a river. Flood disaster often causes lost of property, damages and life. Since this disaster is considered dangerous to human life, an efficient countermeasure or alert system must be implemented in order to notify people in the early stage so that safety precautions can be taken to avoid any mishaps. This paper presents a remote water level alarm system developed by applying liquid sensors and GSM technology. System focuses on monitoring water level remotely and utilizes Global System of Mobile Connections (GSM) and Short Message Service (SMS) to convey data from sensors to the respective users through their mobile phone. The hardware of the system includes Micro Controller Unit (MCU) PIC18F452, three (3) liquid sensors, Inverter and Easygate GSM Module. Software used for the system is C compiler thru (ATtention) AT commands. It is hoped that this project would be beneficial to the community and would act as a precautionary measure in case of flood disaster at any flood prone area. By having early detection, users could take swift action such as evacuation so that cases of loss of lives could be minimized.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123007890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is an important element for any reservoir operation in order to provide the knowledge of water availability to engineers, managers, and regulators. This curve usually prepared by dam consultants where the values are estimated by analyzing available topographic maps and pre-impoundment surveys. Many reservoirs in Malaysia have not been resurveyed in the decades since their construction. Hence, as sediment deposits gradually reduce reservoir capacity over time, and because the original reservoir volume were limited by the accuracy of the existing topographic maps, estimates of the current storage plotted in the elevation-storage curve for reservoirs not re-surveyed since their construction are subject to error. This study put forward the positioning data acquisition through hydrographic survey in order to determine accurate reservoir volumes. The positioning data are then processed in Terramodel software to get the volumes at corresponding reservoir levels. An information system called as ReTISRO is developed in this study for generating the elevation-storage curve using the volumes data produced by Terramodel, receiving real time tidal data from the tide gauge via radio link, and displaying the real time elevation and storage of the reservoir on its interface. The outcome of the study contributes a fully digital high accuracy information system that can be applied by any reservoir operation. It offers a reservoir storage monitoring with continuous data displaying and recording that can be very useful for further water management analyses.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127170683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PID is preferable in industrial applications because it is simple and robust. The main problem in its application is to tune the parameters to its optimum values. This study will look into an optimization of PID parameters using Nelder-Mead approach for electro-hydraulic position control system. The electro-hydraulic system was represented by an ARX model structure obtained through MATLAB System Identification Toolbox. Second-order and third-order model of the system had been evaluated. Simulation and real-time studies show that ARX211 produced the best response in terms of transient speed and RMSE performance criteria even though the model has the least percentage of best fit.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126102138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
