Steam temperature data were collected in two condition: (a) without sample in the steam tray, (b) with sample in the steam tray-Cymbopogon Nardus (serai wangi). The down-flowing steam distillation column developed in this work is intended for extracting the essential oil by steam distillation technique to improve the quality of output yield and get high quantity of essential oil as compare to the conventional steam distillation. Step test is a conventional method that was conducted to observe the process dynamics of heating such as time delay, Td and dominating time constant, Tc. From this analysis, the dynamic of down-flowing steam distillation system for both situations are consistent along the process running.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117169440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A combination of WiFi and WiMAX deployment, will offer more cost-effective solution than a sole WiMAX or WiFi implementation. Its technology is best meets the demand for personal broadband services. This project is focused on the performance evaluation of WiMAX and WiFi systems. It is conducted using open source simulator called NCTUns 6.0. Several scenarios have been created, to evaluate the coexistence of WiMAX and WiFi technology. The data of the simulation results have been gathered and the performance with the effects of transport layer protocol, send rates, packet sizes, distances, bandwidth and queue length were analyzed. Based on the results obtained, the performance of both WiMAX and WiFi technology are not affected due to distances variation but its performance can be improved by using of other parameter such as packet size, bandwidth and queue length.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123397818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development of system that incorporates sEMG analysis capability is essential in rehabilitation devices, prosthesis arm/limb and pervasive healthcare in general. Most advanced EMG signal processing algorithms rely heavily on computational resource of a PC that negates the elements of portability, size and power dissipation of a pervasive healthcare system. Signal processing techniques applicable to sEMG are discussed with aim for proper execution in platform other than full-fledge PC. Performance and design parameters issues in some hardware implementation are also being pointed up. The paper also outlines the trends and alternatives solutions in developing portable and efficient EMG signal processing hardware.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"163 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134448315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system used microcontroller and was designed based on Global System for Mobile Communications. The system can be installed in a motorcycle at hidden place. The action of pressing the paddle or activating the engine without a key will cause a signal to be sent to the microcontroller. The microcontroller will detect the status of a limit switch that is connected to it and send a message to the owner via a mobile phone and stop the engine immediately by disconnecting the power supply. The system will operate in normal condition again after the owner disables it. The proposed system is simpler and more efficient than conventional security system.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128273511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Apart from that, personality traits such as emotions, moods and self-motivation of the learners were also being actively studied. In this research, the learners' learning style and their personality traits were investigated by Electroencephalogram (EEG) Frontal Asymmetry. First, The participants (N=41) learning styles were classified using Kolb's Learning Style Inventory (KLSI) which grouped them into either Diverger, Assimilator, Converger or Accommodator style. Subsequently, their brain signal was recorded using EEG and the Frontal Asymmetry was determined using the Asymmetry Relation Ratio (ARR) formula. The result shows that Converger and Diverger were related to Right Frontal Asymmetry while Assimilator and Accommodator were associated with Left Frontal Asymmetry.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121451813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This project proposes a load limiter that detects excess of alternating current and power supplied to the load and controls the power supply. The load limiter consists of a current transducer meter and a Kilowatt meter and programmable logic controller. The programmable logic controller read the input values from the current transducer meter and Kilo-watt meter and controlled the power supply to the load. A controlling program was written using superCAD software to perform the detection and control process. When there is an excess of power usage, the programmable logic controller sent a signal to the contactor to disconnect the power supply to the load.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131621095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today many countries in the world have migrated to more advanced mobile communication system such as the IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMax network. This mobile WiMax has been proven to be more stable and applicable for fixed, portable, nomadic and mobile network. The parameters such as handover time, throughput and packet delay are the main factor which affects the WiMax network performance. With the appropriate system setting, the QoS of the WiMAX system will be achieved. This paper presents handoff analysis in terms of the throughput and delay characteristic for 2 different fading models which involve UDP and TCP protocol.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125776896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scheme in order to accurately measures the location of a target in real world coordinates and finds the distance to the target from the mobile robot. Fuzzy logic control laws for differential steering control of the autonomous nonholonomic mobile robot are developed. Certain requirements for the fuzzy logic control laws are presented to chose suitable rule base for the fuzzy logic controller in order to make the system asymptotically stable. The stability of the proposed fuzzy logic controller is theoretically proved and also demonstrated by simulation studies. Finally, the proposed fuzzy logic controller is implemented on the nonholonomic mobile robot and the results show that the proposed fuzzy controller can achieve the desired turning angle and the mobile robot follows the target satisfactorily.","PeriodicalId":188910,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126171723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
