Methods: the work is based mainly on the conceptual basis of the quality economics, using the methodology of a general scientific philosophical approach and methods of interdisciplinary research. The source material has become scientific research on the impact of standardization on the economy, conducted in Russia and abroad. Results: in the course of analysis of the institutional role of standardization, its regulatory framework and standards focused on improving the quality of life in the knowledge economy are considered. These transformations are analyzed from the point of view of the Strategies for the socio-economic development of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation that make up the territory of the Southern macroregion, within which the content of indicators of the effectiveness of regional sustainable development is identified. Taking into account the multidirectional process of socio-economic modernization at the regional and macro-regional levels, the sustainable mode of this development is characterized by many parameters that determine the features of the economic space of the corresponding territory.
