Objectives: This study aimed to explore biology teachers’ experiences from a province in Mindanao regarding their challenges while engaging in action research. Methods: It employed a multiple case studies method that involved detailed examination and in-depth analysis of primary and secondary data collected from questionnaires, in-depth individual interviews, and other relevant artifacts from the participants. Findings: Teacher’s major challenges in action research (AR) are reported as themes, namely: negative perceptions and attitudes, lack of conceptual knowledge and unresponsive nature to critiques, lack of time and resources, and mistrust of colleagues’ research capacity. Conclusion: The professional development programs these teachers previously attended did not upgrade their skills in AR because of the following reasons: rolled out in a short period, episodic, had minimal scaffolding and monitoring, and lack evaluation of teachers’ AR projects after the training programs. Keywords: action research, biology teachers, challenges, professional development. Abstrak: Tantangan Melakukan Penelitian Tindakan: Pengalaman Guru Biologi di Mindanao, Filipina. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pengalaman guru biologi dari sebuah provinsi di Mindanao mengenai tantangan mereka saat terlibat dalam penelitian tindakan. Metode: Metode studi kasus berganda yang melibatkan pemeriksaan detil dan analisis mendalam dari data primer dan sekunder yang diperoleh dari kuesioner, wawancara individu yang mendalam, dan hasil karya yang relevan dari para peserta. Temuan: Tantangan utama guru dalam penelitian tindakan yaitu: persepsi dan sikap negatif, kurangnya pengetahuan konseptual dan sifat tidak responsif terhadap kritik, kurangnya waktu dan sumber daya, dan ketidakpercayaan terhadap kapasitas penelitian rekan kerja. Kesimpulan: Program pengembangan profesi yang sebelumnya diikuti oleh guru-guru ini tidak meningkatkan keterampilan mereka dalam melaksanakan penelitian tindakan karena alasan berikut: diluncurkan dalam waktu singkat, episodik, minimnya scaffolding dan pemantauan, dan kurangnya evaluasi proyek penelitian tindakan guru setelah program pelatihan. Objectives: this study aims to know history learning during the COVID-19 Pandemic, know the teachers and students respond, and see the e-learning applications that are most often used and how do students respond to use the application. Methods: this research used a mixed-method approach. Findings: this study showed that history learning experienced differences, and there were also similarities in understanding. The difference was that initially, the teacher used face-to-face learning methods, then online learning changes that rely on internet-based applications. Not having facilities such as smartphones, laptops, and internet networks that did not support learning, made some students unactive. 55.6% of history teachers chose Google Classroom, and 44.4% selected WhatsApp as an e-learning application in teaching. Conclusion: history teachers and students faced some challenges through online learning but they still can conduct the teaching and learning process. Tujuan: penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pembelajaran sejarah selama pandemi COVID-19, mengetahui respon guru dan siswa, serta melihat aplikasi e-learning yang paling sering digunakan dan bagaimana respon siswa dalam menggunakan aplikasi tersebut. Metode: penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan metode campuran. Temuan: penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran sejarah mengalami perbedaan, dan terdapat kesamaan pemahaman. Perbedaannya, pada awalnya guru menggunakan metode pembelajaran tatap muka, kemudian perubahan pembelajaran online yang mengandalkan aplikasi berbasis internet. Tidak adanya fasilitas seperti smartphone, laptop, dan jaringan internet yang tidak mendukung pembelajaran membuat sebagian siswa tidak aktif. 55,6% guru sejarah memilih Google Kelas, dan 44,4% memilih WhatsApp sebagai aplikasi e-learning. Kesimpulan: guru dan siswa sejarah menghadapi beberapa tantangan melalui pembelajaran online tetapi mereka tetap dapat melakukan proses belajar mengajar. Objective: This study collaboratively developed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) textbook and formatively evaluated its quality. Method: Using Participatory Action Research (PAR), this study collaborated with 29 teachers in Aceh to design, develop, and iteratively evaluate the textbook. During the design and development process, we formatively evaluated it through self-reflection, expert appraisal, questionnaires, and interviews to produce quality textbooks in terms of validity and practicality. Findings: Results showed that although most teachers initially did not understand CAR, there was an increase in their understanding and interest in implementing CAR with the textbook guidelines. Besides, the textbook’s validity and practicality increased as expressed by the teachers. Conclusion: Using PAR in writing CAR with the teacher improves the quality of the textbook, in terms of its validity and practicality. Abstrak: Pengembangan Buku Teks Penelitian Tindakan Kelas melalui Penelitian Tindakan Partisipatif: Kualitas dan Tantangan. Tujuan: Penelitian ini secara kolaboratif mengembangkan buku teks Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dan mengevaluasi kualitasnya secara formatif. Metode: Menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Partisipatif (PAR), penelitian ini bekerja sama dengan 29 guru di Aceh untuk merancang, mengembangkan, dan mengevaluasi buku teks secara berulang. Selama proses desain dan pengembangan, kami mengevaluasi buku tersebut secara formatif melalui refleksi diri, penilaian ahli, kuesioner, dan wawancara untuk menghasilkan produk yang berkualitas dari segi validitas dan kepraktisan. Temuan: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun sebagian besar guru pada awalnya tidak memahami PTK, terjadi peningkatan pemahaman dan minat mereka dalam menerapkan PTK dengan pedoman buku teks. Selain itu, validitas dan kepraktisan buku teks meningkat sebagaimana dirasakan para guru. Kesimpulan: Menggunakan PAR dalam menulis PTK dengan guru meningkatkan kualitas buku teks, dari segi validitas dan kepraktisannya. Objective: Identify scientific literacy skills of elementary school students that can be actualized in the form of local government policies. Method: This descriptive study involved 36 schools with a total of 380 Elementary School students in Lampung Tengah District obtained using purposive sampling technique. Students appreciate with scientific literacy adapted from PISA questions (Programs for International Student Assessment) and scientific literacy data are analyzed descriptively. Findings: The results of the study showed that students who understand the concept were only 16.07%, misconcept are 8.6%, wrong concept are 37.5%, and missunderstand concept are 37.8%. Elementary students who understand the concept are still few for most of the questions especially competencies of interpret scientific data and evidence, procedural knowledge categories, and the content of the physical system area. Conclusion: Elementary students' scientific literacy in Central Lampung is still in the low category. Keywords: scientific literacy, elementary school students, descriptive study. Abstrak: Identifikasi Literasi Sains Siswa Sekolah Dasar di Kabupaten Lampung Tengah. Tujuan: Mengidentifikasi kemampuan literasi sains siswa sekolah dasar yang dapat diaktualisasikan dalam bentuk kebijakan pemerintah daerah. Metode: Penelitian deskriptif ini melibatkan 36 sekolah dengan total 380 siswa Sekolah Dasar (SD) di Kabupaten Lampung Tengah yang diperoleh dengan menggunakan purposive sampling technique . Siswa diuji dengan soal literasi sains yang diadaptasi dari soal PISA (Programme for International Students Assessment) dan d ata literasi sains dianalisis secara deskriptif. Temuan: Data hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang paham konsep hanya 16,07%, siswa yang miskonsep 8,6%, siswa yang salah konsep 37,5%, dan siswa yang tidak paham konsep 37,8%. S iswa SD yang paham konsep sains masih sedikit setiap soal terutama pada kompetensi sains interpret data and evidence scientifically, kategori pengetahuan procedural, dan konten area physical system. Kesimpulan: Literasi sains siswa SD di Lampung Tengah masih dalam kategori rendah. Kata kunci: literasi sains, siswa sekolah dasar, penelitian deskriptif. Objectives: The purpose of this literature study is to reveal the forms of mathematical culture in temples in Indonesia, especially in the Borobudur Temple. Methods: The object of this study is the scientific literature on the theme of ethnomathematics and Borobudur Temple. The stages of this research are determining the research problem, finding and evaluating relevant literature, conducting data analysis, and compiling the results. The data analysis technique used was hermeneutics analysis. Findings: In this study, it has been revealed that Borobudur Temple is a building that has been designed with great mathematical techniques. There is a numbering system, so-called watakwilangan and primbon in Javanese culture that regard the number does not only refer to certain quantity, but also a character affecting human life. In addition, geometric shapes appear on the structure, both basic geometric shapes, and fractal shapes. High architectural techniques and the effort inassembling this endurable building is an evidence that Borobudur Temple Architecture has an immeasurable concept of logic and systematization. Conclusion: There are unique mathematical concepts in the form of Javanese number systems, logic, and space configurations that can create a beautiful and persisting building. Tujuan: Penelitian studi literatur ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap bentuk-bentuk matematika budaya pada candi di Indonesia, khususnya Candi Borobudur. Metode: Objek kajian ini adalah literature yang bertema etnomatematika dan candi Borobudur . Tahapan penelitian ini adalah penentukan masalah penelitian, mencari dan menilai literature yang relevan, melakukan analisis data dan menyusun hasil . Temuan: Pada penelitian ini terungkap bahwa Candi Borobudur adalah bangunan yang dirancang dengan teknik matematika yang tinggi. S istem bilangan pada budaya jawa tidak hanya mewakili jumlah tertentu, tetapi juga suatu karakter yang mempengaruhi kehidupan manusia . Selain itu, bentuk geometris muncul pada bagunan itu, baik bentuk geometris dasar maupun bentuk fraktal. Teknik arsitektur yang tinggi dan usaha untuk membuat bangunan ini bertahan lama adalah bukti bahwa arsitektur Candi Borobudur memiliki konsep logika dan sistematisasi yang baik. Kesimpulan: T erdapat konsep matematika yang unik baik berupa sistem bilangan jawa, logika dan konfigurasi ruang yang bisa membuat bangunan menjadi indah dan bertahan. Objectives: The purposes of this research are to understand the programs, strategies, and principals’ obstacles and supporting factor in inproving teachers’ professional competence at Public Elementary School in Aceh Selatan, Indonesia. Methods: This research uses descriptive method with qualitative approach. This research uses descriptive method with qualitative approach. Data collection were conducted through interviews, obsevation, and documentation studies. The subject of this research is the principals and teachers. Findings: The results of this research show (1) Preparation of the principal’s program in improving teacher professionalism among them: Annual program, semester program, Steps arragement of learning plan such as syllabus, lesson plan, and scoring model, provide and share the academic calender, note book, and stationaries. (2) The Strategi in improving teachers’ professional include: Division of tasks, holding the training and attending the Teachers Working Group. The principal way to communicate with teachers is usually done by discussing the idea to find the effective way to improve teachers’ professional competence in developing cultivation process. The principal suggested to use a persuasive approach in improving teacher’s professional competence for teachers with low competence and have strong personality and attitude. (3) The obstacles among them: the teachers have all mastered IT, most of teachers are undergraduate student, and most teachers have the teaching certificate. Meanwhile, the obstacle factors such as most of the teachers live far from school, there still a less active teacher, and teacher still not able to share the result of the training. Objectives: This article reviews and criticizes research reports on STEM education in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN countries. Methods: The study conducted through ACI database as an investigation source, a total of 24 articles were reviewed between the years 2013 and 2019. Data were analyzed by the main key of pedagogical practices, also is focused on the implementations of STEM education in an effective classroom. Findings: Findings showed that STEM education used in a variety of integrated pedagogical practices by different concepts and contexts.The process of STEM learning emphasizes on engineering process than the science process. It is generally drawn by 5D in a thematic approach: define, design, develop, debrief, and disseminate. Conclusions: Technology and design-based learning are calling for future research and the contribution of pedagogical practices in a diverse classroom. Tujuan: Artikel ini mengkaji dan mengkritik laporan penelitian tentang pendidikan STEM di negara-negara ASEAN. Metode: Penelitian dilakukan melalui database ACI sebagai sumber investigasi dengan total 24 artikel yang dikaji berkisar antara tahun 2013 dan 2019. Data dianalisis melalui pedoman utama praktik-praktik pedagogis, juga difokuskan pada implementasi pendidikan STEM didalam kelas. Temuan: Temuan menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan STEM digunakan dalam berbagai praktik pedagogis terintegrasi dengan konsep dan konteks yang berbeda. Proses pembelajaran STEM menekankan pada proses rekayasa daripada proses sains. Secara umum digambarkan dengan 5D dalam pendekatan tematis yaitu: mendefinisikan, merancang, mengembangkan, menanya, dan menyebarluaskan. Pembelajaran berbasis desain dan teknologi menyerukan penelitian di masa yang akan datang dan kontribusi praktik pedagogis di ruang kelas yang beragam. Objectives : The aim of this study was to see an increase in the academic performance of island studentsin Ambon City by applying the problem based learning (PBL) learning model and realistic mathematics education (RME). Methods : This research was in the form of a descriptive qualitative study with a case study approach and a sample of 116 students. Findings : There was a significant increase in student academic performance at each meeting and learning outcomes with PBL were higher than RME. Conclusion : The PBL model is more effective in increasing students’academic performance than RMEbecause students were facilitated with online-based mediain PBL when compared to RME, so that it can attract students' attention in learning and have a significant impact on student academic performance. Keywords : Academic performance, problem-based learning, academic realistic mathematics education Abstrak: Perbandingan pembelajaran berbasis masalah dan pendidikan matematika realistik untuk meningkatan performa akademik siswa. Tujuan: Adapun tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah melihat peningkatan performa akademik siswa kepulauan di Kota Ambon dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran problem based learning (PBL) dan realistic mathematics education (RME). Metode: Penelitian ini berupa studi kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi kasus dan sampel penelitian sebanyak 116 siswa. Temuan: Terjadi peningkatkan yang cukup signifikan untuk performa akademik siswa pada setiap pertemuan dan hasil belajar dengan PBL lebih tinggi bila dibandingkan dengan RME. Kesimpulan: Model PBl lebih efektif dalam meningkatan performa akademik siswa dibandingkan dengan RME, hal ini karena pada PBL siswa difasilitasi dengan media berbasis online bila dibandingkan dengan RME, sehingga dapat menarik perhatian siswa dalam belajar dan berdampak signifikan pada performa akademik siswa. Towards Designing an Approach in Unlearning Negative Habits. Objectives: The study intends to explore and understand the unlearning process, as grounded from the experiences of teachers and students of Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (Values Education in the Philippines) towards developing a new approach in teaching the aforementioned subject area. Methods: Interviews were conducted to 33 respondents from a private Catholic school, and transcripts were analyzed through the techniques of thematic analysis and grounded theory. Findings: The adolescents’ negative habits, as well as teachers’ facilitation practices generated substantial themes such as: (1) need for a strong sense of self; (2) difficulty of unlearning due to various “blocks”; (3) instruments to unlearn; and (4) role of teachers as empathic individuals. These codes then led to the final product of the study as E.L.S.A.’s approach to unlearn (Empowering the Self, Letting Go, Starting a New Life, and Action), which may be utilized as schools’ pedagogical framework in producing classroom-based materials in facilitating values formation. Conclusion: The idea of unlearning is not an experimental process or behavioral modification. It only explored the concept and process of unlearning, but did not necessarily aim to make unlearning take place on the psyche of the students. Abstrak: Bagaimana saya menghilangkannya? merancang suatu pendekatan dalam menghilangkan kebiasaan negatif . Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi dan memahami proses pembelajaran, yang didasarkan pada pengalaman para guru dan siswa Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (Pendidikan Nilai di Filipina) untuk mengembangkan pendekatan baru dalam mengajar bidang studi tersebut. Metode: Wawancara dilakukan kepada 33 responden dari Elizabeth Seton School, dan transkrip dianalisis melalui teknik analisis tematik dan grounded theory. Temuan: Kebiasaan negatif remaja, maupun tindakan-tindakan guru menghasilkan tema-tema substansial seperti: (1) kebutuhan akan perasaan diri yang kuat; (2) kesulitan untuk belajar karena berbagai \"blok\"; (3) instrumen untuk melepaskan; dan (4) peran guru sebagai individu yang empatik. Kode-kode ini kemudian mengarah ke produk akhir dari penelitian yaitu dihasilkannya pendekatan E.L.S.A (Empowering the Self, Letting Go, Starting a New Life, and Action), yang memungkinkan untuk digunakan sebagai kerangka pedagogis sekolah dalam memproduksi materi berbasis ruang kelas dalam memfasilitasi pembentukan nilai-nilai. Kesimpulan: Gagasan unlearning bukanlah proses eksperimental atau modifikasi perilaku. Itu hanya mengeksplorasi konsep dan proses unlearning, tetapi tidak selalu bertujuan untuk membuat unlearning terjadi pada jiwa siswa.
