According to the social-cultural and constructivist approach, meanings and understandings grow out of social encounters. Therefore, this study includes virtual world environments, technologies and activities that support collaboration and enable the learner to be immersed in their learning experience through instructional strategies such as hands-on learning, simulations, group projects and study case discussions.","PeriodicalId":185614,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on E-Learning and E-Technologies in Education (ICEEE)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124955903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ITSA generates automatically theory test questions and problem solving exercises from a domain model for financial accounting. ITSA uses the constraint learning theory to check the student answer and to provide feedback. The paper argues that this approach reduces the effort required to generate teaching material, and can be used for both testing the students understanding of the accounting theory as well as their problem solving skills.","PeriodicalId":185614,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on E-Learning and E-Technologies in Education (ICEEE)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114594568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

E-Learning platforms speed up the assessment process and reduce the amount of work required by universities' teachers. Although E-Learning platforms have succeeded in assessing many areas and domains, they lack the ability to assess certain skills and concepts. In this paper, a solution is proposed to address the Assessment problem in E-Learning platforms for advanced computer programming skills. Unlike many computer-based assessment systems for programming skills assessment, the proposed prototype system offers the ability to evaluate advanced programming skills related to program efficiency design and analysis aspects in an automatic approach. This makes it convenient for universities teaching advanced programming concepts such as data structure and algorithm.","PeriodicalId":185614,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on E-Learning and E-Technologies in Education (ICEEE)","volume":"45 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114124871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Flexible education provides students with the opportunity to select how, when, and where to study compared to ordinary on-campus education. Additionally, lecture videos contain most of the instructional content. The content of these videos are in general non-scripted and unedited, and thus do not provide the required level of interactivity. Therefore, these videos fail to captivate students' attention for a long time, and thus their effective use remains a challenge. In this regard, Multimedia Learning Object (MLO) can play an important role in future flexible education. MLOs are media rich documents that have pedagogical values encapsulated with all needed features such as navigation structures and surrogates. We propose in this paper a framework for interactive MLOs in distance and blended education. The framework supports creation, storage, distribution, and evaluation of automatically extracted learning objects from digital media. The framework not only conforms to industry standards, but also provide novel methods and techniques to develop Video Learning Objects (VLOs).","PeriodicalId":185614,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on E-Learning and E-Technologies in Education (ICEEE)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129730911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modern education must respect dynamic changes and preferences of business leading to competitive advantages; therefore, education seeks optimal ways to obtain the necessary knowledge and skills. Communication has an important place in education. The presented analysis is dedicated to Forum activity, with links to other learning activities for support communication (Database, Survey, or Wiki) from Moodle platform. The Forum activity is difficult for creation. Teacher must use on-line help or a specialist on the Moodle for optimal Forum creation via eighteen items. Other analyzed activities need smaller volume of work, but prompt implementation requires simplification using ideas of computational intelligence, and e-learning for knowledge society.","PeriodicalId":185614,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on E-Learning and E-Technologies in Education (ICEEE)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130929870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The idea is to use the students' own smartphones as voting devices and provide a quiz administration module which is integrated into the existing university's e-learning platform. For establishing the link between the devices and the platform we use dynamically generated Quick Response (QR) codes. The quiz is implemented as a web application, also providing the use of media content such as pictures and videos. We briefly evaluate our approach with respect to usability for students and lecturers, limits of the mobile browser technology and the QR code, and the impact on the university's network infrastructure.","PeriodicalId":185614,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on E-Learning and E-Technologies in Education (ICEEE)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117075190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An institutional repository is a method to realize free access to research outputs. However, the number of scholarly papers archived in institutional repositories is extremely small compared to the papers practically produced by researchers. The authors considered that an obstacle to increase the number is the efforts of researchers to register their papers to institutional repositories, and they developed a system that realizes a simultaneous registration of papers to the researcher database and the institutional repository in their university. This paper introduces the main idea of the system.","PeriodicalId":185614,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on E-Learning and E-Technologies in Education (ICEEE)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129111594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
