The proposed algorithm parameterizes a curve using the B-spline model and adds a spread spectrum sequence in the coordinates of the B-spline control points. We demonstrate through experiments the robustness of the proposed data hiding algorithm against printing-and-scanning and collusions, and show its feasibility for collusion-resistant fingerprinting of topographic maps as well as writings/drawings from pen-based input devices.","PeriodicalId":184798,"journal":{"name":"2004 International Conference on Image Processing, 2004. We present a video coding solution given the constraints of bit rate and decoding power dissipation. Coupled with a small dedicated video internal memory at a decoder, the coding scheme is designed for the best operational rate-distortion and decoding power cost trade off. It can substantially decrease the data traffic to the external memory at decoder. A decrease in data traffic to the external memory at decoder will result in faster real-time processing and power savings. The encoder, given the prior knowledge of the decoder's dedicated video internal memory management scheme, optimally regulates its choice of motion compensated predictors to reduce the decoder's external memory accesses. This video coding scheme can be used in any standard or proprietary encoder to generate a compliant output stream decodable by a standard general purpose processor-based or dedicated hardware-based decoder with power restriction. Simulation results show that with a relatively small dedicated internal memory, our scheme may reduce the power dissipation significantly while keeping the comparable picture quality.","PeriodicalId":184798,"journal":{"name":"2004 International Conference on Image Processing, 2004. But so far no algorithm is able to obtain satisfactory result in locating the ball in broadcast tennis video (BTV). This paper presents a trajectory-based algorithm to detect and track the ball in BTV. Unlike the object-based algorithm, it does not decide whether an object is the ball. Instead it decides whether a candidate trajectory is a ball trajectory. This algorithm is able to obtain ball locations for most frames in a BTV, making use of four cues, namely, (1) an antimodel method to produce ball candidates from each frame, (2) a trajectory-based scheme to generate, identify and extend the ball trajectories from a set of candidates, (3) a method to infer the ball locations according to players' locations and the points of hitting, (4) a method to estimate missing ball locations from known ball locations. The experimental results show that our algorithm obtains the ball locations for above 96% frames in a sufficient accuracy for summarization.","PeriodicalId":184798,"journal":{"name":"2004 International Conference on Image Processing, 2004. A widely accepted rate control method in wired networks is TCP friendly equation based rate control (S. Floyd et al., Aug 2000), i.e. TFRC. However, it assumes that packet loss in wired networks is primarily due to congestion, and as such is not applicable to wireless networks in which the bulk of packet loss is due to error at the physical layer. In this work, we show multiple TFRC connection is an efficient end-to-end rate control solution for wireless video streaming applications. The approach not only avoids modifications to the network infrastructure or network protocol, but also results in full utilization of the wireless channel. Video streaming related simulations arc carried out to show the efficiency of our proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":184798,"journal":{"name":"2004 International Conference on Image Processing, 2004. A recognition system is presented in which the effect of the secondary/nuisance variables is to a large degree accounted for before the matching process even begins. Greatly improved performance is shown on a large database of faces in 42 conditions.","PeriodicalId":184798,"journal":{"name":"2004 International Conference on Image Processing, 2004. The motion of points in 3D space is represented by trajectories in an image cube. The advantage of this method is that the motion information of a single 3D point can be represented and analyzed for all available images simultaneously. ICT analysis is based on the definition of an occlusion compatible search strategy in the image cube for known parametrized camera setups. In this paper we derive rules for an optimized sampling of the considered 3D space. They can also be applied to many other 3D reconstruction approaches such as voxel coloring (S. M. Seitz and C. R. Dyer, 1997). We restricted our discussion to a circular moving camera.","PeriodicalId":184798,"journal":{"name":"2004 International Conference on Image Processing, 2004. The proposed segmentation is accurate and robust under uneven illumination, lighting variation, and noise. Principal component analysis (PCA) is first applied to the RGB color bands of the image. The image corresponding to the principal component has significantly better contrast over the original image. A set of eigenfilters is then obtained by applying PCA to local neighborhoods of this image. A pair of filters from this set, corresponding to the second and third largest eigenvalues, resembles ramp edge filters with orientations that adapt to the image. These edge filters are used to obtain the edgemap of the image. We define a criterion that enables accurate detection of valid edges of cells while suppressing noise.","PeriodicalId":184798,"journal":{"name":"2004 International Conference on Image Processing, 2004. This usually unknown mapping is nonlinear and varies from one color channel to another. In this paper, we present a method to estimate the radiometric response functions (of R, G and B channels) of a color camera directly from the images of an arbitrary scene taken under different illumination conditions (The illumination conditions are not assumed to be known). The response function of a channel is modeled as a gamma curve and is recovered by using a constrained nonlinear minimization approach by exploiting the fact that the material properties of the scene remain constant in all the images. The performance of the proposed method is demonstrated experimentally.","PeriodicalId":184798,"journal":{"name":"2004 International Conference on Image Processing, 2004. In fingerprinting the identity of customer is embedded into the content in a way that is difficult to erase. The main difference between watermarking and fingerprinting is that different copies for each customer can be produced. Attackers compare several fingerprinting copies and find the location of the embedded information and destroy it by altering the values in those places where a difference was detected. In this paper, we propose a short fingerprinting code which is robust to the collusion attack of N customers, in the proposed fingerprinting scheme, two kinds of code are used. The first code has the same value for all customers and is embedded at the same location like watermark. The second code is designed unique for each customer. We apply this scheme to the digital image and show that it has some robustness against collusion attacks.","PeriodicalId":184798,"journal":{"name":"2004 International Conference on Image Processing, 2004. The original Bayesian framework of image denoising is reformulated into a constrained optimization problem using continuous relaxation labeling. The NCNN, which combines the simulated annealing technique with the Hopfield neural network (HNN), is employed to solve the optimization problem. It effectively overcomes the local minima problem which may be incurred by the HNN. The experimental results show that the NCNN could offer good quality solutions.","PeriodicalId":184798,"journal":{"name":"2004 International Conference on Image Processing, 2004.
