Given that the medical tourism sector is a global one, cultural diversity is also essential. However, promotional texts overlooked the cultural variabilities that can prevent potential global medical tourists from understanding the targeted marketing messaging. This study's objective was to look into the way in which selected Malaysian and Singaporean private hospital websites are presented to disseminate marketing messages to global patients travelling for medical treatment. For linguistic analysis, this study used Halliday's metafunction theory from the Systemic Functional Linguistic approach. The linguistic data were further analysed utilising the high and low context classification of cultures provided by Hall's cultural dimension of context dependency. High-context exhibits indirect communication and low-context demonstrates direct communication. The selected Malaysian and Singaporean webpages had features that were more common in low-context societies, such as complex code system, explicit message, highly structured message, focalisation of information and linear organisation. These findings were not consistent with the existing intercultural communication consulted in the literature which has associated Asian countries to high-context culture. The findings can assist stakeholders in medical tourism, website designers, and copywriters to understand the communicative strategies and possible cultural sensitivities in designing medical tourism websites for a country's successful international promotion.","PeriodicalId":183891,"journal":{"name":"The European Proceedings of Social and Behavioural Sciences","volume":"18 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139211357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research involved a quantitative population study with a total of 2261 participants, comprising ROTU cadets from all 20 public universities. Upon data collection, a descriptive analysis was conducted to examine the participants' responses comprehensively. The analysis allowed for a systematic and quantitative evaluation of the ROTU cadets' understanding and familiarity with patriotism concepts and practices. The findings of the study revealed a strong consensus among ROTU respondents, indicating a prevailing belief that ROTU is closely associated with patriotism. Specifically, a significant majority of respondents expressed \"strong agreement\" with the notion that ROTU is linked to fostering a sense of patriotism. Moreover, the study also found that ROTU respondents strongly agreed that participation in the ROTU program contributes to the enhancement of individuals' patriotism levels. This finding reinforces the view that ROTU plays a vital role in cultivating the participants' commitment and love for their country. Furthermore, the majority ROTU respondents identified that \"always preparing to protect the country\" was recognized as pivotal in nurturing genuine affection and devotion to the nation. These findings collectively underscore the pivotal role of ROTU in nurturing a strong sense of patriotism among its participants, fostering values of dedication, loyalty, and willingness to sacrifice for the country. The alignment of ROTU respondents' perspectives on these aspects indicates a shared understanding of ROTU's role in promoting patriotism and national devotion among the participants.","PeriodicalId":183891,"journal":{"name":"The European Proceedings of Social and Behavioural Sciences","volume":"19 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139214871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After Twitter was introduced in 2006, certain changes can be detected in people's behavior especially in Malaysia in gathering information. Unlike before, the public had no choice in consuming news from traditional media such as newspapers and television. This research seeks to identify the relationship between using Twitter as a news source and news reading interest. Moreover, this research also seeks to identify the relationship between information quality and news reading interest. In addition, the theory that is being applied on this research is the Uses & Gratification (U&G) theory. Quantitative methods were applied in this study and about 120 volunteer respondents are required to answer the questionnaire given. Based on the findings, researchers found that there is a relationship between social media and news reading interest since it is available to access by multiple devices such as smartphones or tablets. In addition, users are increasingly using Twitter as a medium of never-ending updates about current news, which is leading to an increase in their news reading interest.","PeriodicalId":183891,"journal":{"name":"The European Proceedings of Social and Behavioural Sciences","volume":"3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139209332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are numerous legal problems argued, such as non-retroactivity (\"ratione temporis\") of treaty law, expanding interpretation of the exceptions, and the principle of state membership in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). In addition, some states reject joining the First Optional Protocol (FOP) despite ratifying the ICCPR to deny the human rights committee authority to review individual complaints. This paper can help researchers and lawyers analyze international problems, paying particular attention to the principles, exceptions, and techniques to avoid falling into the legal trap of the inadmissibility of individual communications. The objectives of this research are mainly to advance the effectiveness and credibility of the international protection system by further developing legal protection ideas, making individual communications admissible, and increasing protection coverage for the victims.","PeriodicalId":183891,"journal":{"name":"The European Proceedings of Social and Behavioural Sciences","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139209621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
