This paper reports on the methodology used to perform a Training System Requirements Analysis (TSRA) that evaluated existing and advanced training technologies and matched those technologies to a set of validated training objectives. It describes the employment of an Instructional System Design (ISD) process as a means of defining the Job Performance Requirements (JPRs). The process of identifying performance-based flight training objectives and knowledge-based academic objectives is discussed and the approach used to select a set of GETS hardware and software is presented. The use of information on student flow, flying schedules, length of training days, and available facilities to scope and develop the concept are also presented. A description of how all of the above was used to produce a syllabus of instruction is then provided. Finally, the use of a Training Management System (TMS) to provide course control, courseware modification, and information to assist scheduling, record-keeping, and decision-making is presented.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":183796,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 1993 National Aerospace and Electronics Conference-NAECON 1993","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117238610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, the basic 3-point DCT is considered. Then, the formulae of the new radix-3 FCT algorithm are derived. Next, a block diagram of the radix-3 FCT algorithm is shown and the signal flowgraph for length-3/sup 2/ FCT is given to illustrate the proposed algorithm. Finally, the computational complexity is analysed. The proposed algorithm requires less number of arithmetic operations and allows in-place computation. The simple and regular structure makes it easy to be implemented. One can compute effectively the length-2/sup 1/.3/sup m/ DCT using this length-3/sup m/ algorithm together with the existing length-2/sup 1/ algorithm by prime factor decomposition. The proposed new radix-3 FCT algorithm is expected to find wide practical applications.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":183796,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 1993 National Aerospace and Electronics Conference-NAECON 1993","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121334114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Intelligent systems such as rule-based expert systems have been used to assist in the development process; however, these approaches still require significant human intervention to achieve acceptable results. This paper describes a system called MORPH which synthesizes complex feature extraction routines using only classification information provided by the image analyst. This system generates a multiplicity of very accurate solutions for several classification tasks.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":183796,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 1993 National Aerospace and Electronics Conference-NAECON 1993","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115390117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is able to eliminate the extra processing in range and becomes very promising in real time radar imaging. Two new criteria, i.e. grayscale peak minimum and average burst derivative minimum, are presented. Computer simulation of ISAR motion compensation based on the real data of reduced-size metal model B-52 collected in a microwave anechoic chamber, is carried out. The reconstructed images show that the two proposed criteria are feasible. The two-dimensional search is conducted to investigate the global properties of the two proposed criteria.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":183796,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 1993 National Aerospace and Electronics Conference-NAECON 1993","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130648400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two associative memory organizations were chosen because of their fundamentally different levels of processing granularity. The CAM was chosen because its processing is performed within the memory cell, while the bit-serial word-parallel associative memory was chosen because its processing is performed at the memory word level. Both organizations were designed, modelled and simulated to determine which was the faster in comparing 8-bit, and 32-bit target parameters. The associative memories were designed to store the parameters of at least 72 weapon platforms, with each platform consisting of six parameters, and each parameter consisting of an upper and lower limit. The number of bits per word and the number of words within the memory were varied to accommodate the target parameters and to enhance the comparison speed. The comparison speed was calculated by summing the critical path delays through each memory. The comparison speed results indicate which associative memory organization is the more appropriate for identifying the weapon platform.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":183796,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 1993 National Aerospace and Electronics Conference-NAECON 1993","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130684208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite an abundance of work in the application and mathematical foundations of ANNs there exists no consensus on how to implement ANNs in hardware. The goal of this paper is to provide an analytical perspective on electronic ANN implementation by addressing issues and design tradeoffs. The issues discussed include the question of analog vs. digital implementation, virtual vs. literal realizations, as well as speed and cost considerations in implementing a network.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":183796,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 1993 National Aerospace and Electronics Conference-NAECON 1993","volume":"250 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114288145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Enhancing filter robustness in cascaded GPS-INS integrations","authors":"S. P. Karatsinides","doi":"10.1109/NAECON.1993.290949","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/NAECON.1993.290949","url":null,"abstract":"Filter robustness is defined as the ability of the GPS-INS Kalman filter to cope with adverse environments and input conditions, to successfully identify such conditions and to take evasive action. This paper discusses the formulation of two such techniques for a cascaded GPS-INS Kalman filter integration. This is an integration in which the navigation solution from a GPS receiver is used as a measurement in the filter to estimate inertial errors and instrument biases. The first technique presented discusses the handling of GPS position biases. These are due to errors in the GPS satellite segment, and are known to be unobservable. They change levels when a satellite constellation change occurs, at which point they introduce undesirable filter response transients. The paper presents a method of suppressing these transients. The second technique presented deals with the proper identification of the filter measurement noise. Successful formulation of the noise statistics is a factor vital to the healthy estimation of the filter gains and operation. Confidence in the formulation of these statistics can lead to the proper screening and rejection of bad data in the filter. The paper discusses a method of formulating the filter noise statistics dynamically based on inputs from the CPS and the INS.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":183796,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 1993 National Aerospace and Electronics Conference-NAECON 1993","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114967842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
