For the detection and spot estimation of shooter, the schemes of gunshot localization require one or more sensing technologies. In current situation the importance of counter sniper systems cannot be denied. An efficient counter sniper system that can provide immediate shooter location will provide many benefits to our security personnel. In this paper, the Time Difference Of Arrival (TDOA) of Shock Wave and Muzzle Blast is used to estimate the shooter location. The proposed design and algorithm was validated and shooter origin was resolute that was very close to theoretical values. The result shows that the scheme worked very fine and is capable of locating sniper fires very efficiently, competently and effectively. The designed algorithm worked very well and results were found to be very accurately.","PeriodicalId":182424,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Smart Instrumentation, Measurement and Applications (ICSIMA)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126076830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed technique significantly improves the recognition performance of a biometric system by using multiple sources available in the same modality group. A total of 30 subjects with 12 lead ECG measurements obtained from PTB Diagnostic ECG database (PTBDB) with sampling rate of 1000 Hz were used to verify the approach. Normalization plays an important role in the identification stage as it uniquely matches between ECG signals from bipolar limb leads and also the supplementary augmented unipolar limb leads. Based on the experimentation results, self-similarities are prominent and distinct from one person to another by obtaining high correlation values and relatively good classification accuracies ranging from 93% to 100% for all the leads. This result also suggests the robustness, reliability and stability of the proposed method for multibiometric system.","PeriodicalId":182424,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Smart Instrumentation, Measurement and Applications (ICSIMA)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127296614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current glucose monitoring are invasive, which requires painful procedures and not reliable for long term usage. Impedance of human skin provides details about physiological structure and chemical composition of the skin and underneath tissues. Glucose concentration will affect the dielectric properties of cellular membranes, and therefore, changing the impedance of the blood. This paper describes a non-invasive measurement continuous glucose monitoring system based on bioelectrical impedance. In this project, an alternative current constant current source with a frequency of 50kHz and peak-to-peak of 1mA is developed and injected to the finger tip through the developed tetra-polar electrode. The voltage drop across the finger will be measured and also used to determine the variation on glucose concentration. The developed prototype device will help to manage the painful procedures, cost-effective and reduce the infection rate as compared to the conventional invasive technique. Preliminary results show that 80% of measurement accuracy of the developed system measured non-invasively blood-glucose by means of bioelectrical impedance.","PeriodicalId":182424,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Smart Instrumentation, Measurement and Applications (ICSIMA)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121811160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A WSN is a set of nodes arranged into a network. Routing is a vital technology in WSNs. It can be split into two groups namely flat routing and hierarchical routing. In flat routing all nodes have identical functionality and carry out the same task in the network. Whereas, nodes in a hierarchical routing have dissimilar duties and are usually arranged into clusters. This paper focuses on key clustering routing schemes for WSNs. We present a detailed comparison with simulations on NS-2 of LEACH, LEACH-C and PEGASIS and we deduce the performance of each with varying different parameters. It is evident from the simulation results that LEACH-C and PEGASIS outperform LEACH with respect to a number of key performance metrics.","PeriodicalId":182424,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Smart Instrumentation, Measurement and Applications (ICSIMA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131112237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A brief comparison has been carried out, that evaluates several techniques w.r.t cost, implementation complexity and rejection to load disturbances. The non-linear behavior of the power converters is closely approximated using State Space Averaging (SSA). The design of appropriate control techniques is carried out using linearized state equations and is found more effective and robust to environmental changes as compared to the conventional methods. In the proposed technique, a practical case for solar energy harvester has been analyzed and a Linear Quadratic Control scheme has been proposed for the photovoltaic (PV) system using SSA linear model. Controller gains are chosen so as to ensure system stability. Finally, the MPPT system has been verified in Matlab simulink, using mathematical modeling for PV cells and power electronic circuit configurations.","PeriodicalId":182424,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Smart Instrumentation, Measurement and Applications (ICSIMA)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122246334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the contribution of knowledge from previous researchers, ultrasound fat measurement techniques is now being prepared not only to be used in industries (controlled environment) but also commercially by the consumer in their homes (uncontrolled environment). In order to ensure this, an understanding about the relationship between ultrasound properties and composition of meat is needed. Ultrasound attenuates, reflect and refract during its propagation in a medium. These phenomena occur due to the losses within and in homogeneities of the medium. This paper presents the results of a literature review that analyses research in this area from 1990 to 2012. Based on this review, several parameters have been identified as factors that affect measurement; which are water content, measurement temperature, in homogeneity of sample due to the natural variation of sample and unwanted signal called speckle in the B - mode image. Minimizing this issue becomes the objective in order to realize the application of ultrasound fat measurement commercially by the consumer.","PeriodicalId":182424,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Smart Instrumentation, Measurement and Applications (ICSIMA)","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122399663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the previous works has been designed for long range pipes as they may carry valuable liquids. But having a system to monitor domestic's pipes also can help to save so much time and energy in future as leaking itself can be destructive in structures. This system is applying much lower frequency (40 kHz) in compare to other similar systems (above hundreds megahertz) which leads to lower power consumption. This ultrasonic wave is applied to short distance pipes to observe the changes and detect the leakage base on adjusted thresholds amplitude. It is able to detect smallest changes as the matter of difference in acoustic waves for healthy and damaged pipes. The alarming system works by analyzing output signals from receivers. Ultrasonic sensors are having 40 kHz central frequency for both transmitter and receiver with best responsibility at face to face condition. Acoustic sensors are working independently in pair and by dismissing one pair others will not affect continuity of data acquisition. For this paper a couple of transducer (a transmitter and receiver) operation has been investigated. By understanding the functionality of a pair can analyses how they are working in more numbers. This system is a cheap, easy to assemble, install and maintain for homes and most of public facilities such as schools, hospitals, parks, offices and business buildings. It doesn't need any particular constriction or changes in pipeline structures.","PeriodicalId":182424,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Smart Instrumentation, Measurement and Applications (ICSIMA)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124602754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An EMS is designed, built and tested with the objective of optimizing electric power consumption of the converted electric vehicle and extend its driving range. The `driver-assist' system monitors vehicle performance via an on-board data acquisition system. It tracks, among others, vehicle speed, motor speed, power consumption, battery and motor temperature and battery state of charge (SOC) and gives feedback in terms of suggested actions for the driver. The EMS is implemented on National Instruments' CompactRIO embedded controller, programmed on LabVIEW Real-Time software. The paper also describes development of a graphical driver interface (GDI), based on the web server function of the CompactRIO, implemented via TCP-IP connection with a tablet PC.
