Numerous approach based on different physical principles have been proposed such as ultrasonic, electromagnetic, and differential pressure systems which each one of them requires its own particular measurement technique and algorithm to compute the necessary information such as flow speed, consumption and flow direction. However, there are some weaknesses in their measurement techniques including complexity and power consumption in their implementation. Therefore, in this paper, a measurement technique based on four sensor rotary encoder is presented. The measurement technique is simple and able to measure the speed, number of rotation and recognize the direction of the rotation. Furthermore, in the proposed measurement technique the error of the system is detectable in which debugging the system is required expensive equipment and long time for the conventional rotary encoder system. One of the methods is template matching which is executed in the optical character recognition (OCR) step of the automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system. In previous researches, many researchers are used a high end desktop PC and high resolution camera to implement the ANPR system. In this paper, the optimization of ANPR algorithm on limited hardware of Android mobile phone is presented. First, various steps to optimize ANPR and OCR block using template matching are described. Our proposed algorithm was based on Tesseract library. For comparison purpose, the template matching based OCR will be compared to Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based OCR. The optimization on ANPR was performed as currently there is no image processing tool available on the standard Android mobile phone. By optimization of ANPR, many advantages could be achieved, such as higher recognition accuracy, less resource consumption, and less computational complexity. The novelty contributed in this work is the appropriate selection of dielectric substrate, the logical modifications in the existing antenna length and width, and the connection of the ground planes on both sides of the existing G-shaped antenna. The proposed antenna is fed with CPW waveguide and the parameters have been optimized so that resonant modes with wider bandwidths suitable for applications at lower, mid and the upper end of the ISM band can be achieved. The proposed antenna is simulated and its performance is analyzed by measuring various antenna parameters such as bandwidth, directivity, gain, radiation pattern and return loss. The performance parameters of the proposed antenna are assessed at 2.4/2.45/4.2/5.85/6.07 GHz. The results at the lower-band of ISM band (2.2144-2.687 GHz) show a bandwidth improvement of 19.69% with a bandwidth of 472.6 MHz, an improvement of 29.39% with a bandwidth of 1.235 GHz is evident at the middle of ISM band (3.8504-5.0854 GHz), and the highest bandwidth improvement of 40.79% with 2.478 GHz bandwidth in the upper end of ISM band (5.0854-7.5632 GHz) is noticed. Gait recognition refers to identify a human by the style/way, a person walks in image sequences. The objective of this paper is to implement the traditional gait recognition algorithm and to show the variation in gait recognition when subject is observed parallel to camera under three conditions-walking normal, carrying a bag and wearing a coat. In this work, we are devising a novel method for the purpose of similarity computation rather than the traditional recognition where 78.57% of overall recognition rate was obtained. This paper proposes a novel intelligent system for the online monitoring of the operating conditions of rotating machinery using electrostatic sensors and signal processing techniques. This system is capable of providing simultaneous measurements of rotational speed, angular acceleration, vibration direction and frequency as well as an indication of mechanical wear. These parameters usually contain abundant fault-related information about the rotating machinery, which is to be extracted by detecting the electrostatic charge on the surface of the moving part. The general principle and system design considerations are presented. The jacket of the POF is used as a chamber cell with 10mm core as pathlength. The direct absorbance spectrophometric principle is applied in this work and a range of 400nm to 650nm wavelengths were selected as the nitrite absorption region. Sample of nitrite concentration from 0.2156ppm to 6.9ppm are tested by using syringe pumped into the cell. Colorimetrie of the sample is produced by greiss reagent method. The method based on reaction of nitrite with sulphanilamide acid and N-l-napthylamine which caused pink colour azo dye proportional to the nitrite concentration present in the aqueous sample. The result shows that peak wavelength absorbance at 545nm with standard deviation range from 0.0004 to 0.0107 and precision from 0.5% to 0.03%. Meanwhile, limit of quantitation and limit of detection are 0.158ppm and 0.0052ppm, respectively. Therefore, rapid and precise frequency estimator is required. This paper present normalized variable step size least mean square with the complex form to estimate the fundamental power system frequency. The complex form of the voltage signal is obtained from the three phase voltages using transforming method. To evaluate the performance of the presented method several simulation cases that may be found in real system have been conducted and the results compared to the existing variable step size least mean square frequency estimation method. Object localization searches and segments the region of interest of license plate automatically and eases the subsequent recognition phase where each character of the license plate can be identified accurately. Speeded Up Robust Features (SURF) and Bag-of Words (BoW) feature descriptors are combined and clustered by using K-means clustering to form a novel way of localizing the license plate's region in an image. The proposed work has been tested on Malaysian license plate datasets in both of off-line and on-line modes, where the offline mode denoted by stand-still image test captured in out-door environment, while the online mode denoted by the video and webcam tests. The obtained results showed that the proposed method can achieve up to 90.69%, 90.32% and 98% of accuracy rates for the license plate localization in standstill image, video and webcam tests subsequently. Most of the methods use voltage and current measurement at one or both the ends of the transmission line. Also many methods consider source side and load side impedance to be known and constant. This paper presents a method for the determination of fault location in a transmission line using synchronized measurements considering the variation in source and load side impedance. The proposed algorithm is valid for symmetrical as well as unsymmetrical faults. This method is also less dependent on Current Transformer, so that error will be less. Algorithm has been tested in various systems-including IEEE 7-bus system-using Real Time Digital Simulation platform.
