Powell","doi":"10.18235/0000433","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18235/0000433","url":null,"abstract":"Although there is ample support for the causal link between home visit parenting programs and child development outcomes, few studies have explored what it is that drives this relationship â€“ to what extent home visit programs are implemented as designed in terms of the content and strategies used by home visitors. To our knowledge, comparable data on the quality and fidelity of implementation in home visit programs in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) does not exist. In light of this gap, this note presents a snapshot of home visit quality in seven countries in which home visits reach a considerable number of children. Using an observational checklist tool, we find strong rapport between visitors and families, and consistent involvement of caregivers and children in practicing activities during the visit. However, visitors rarely explain the importance of these activities in relation to child development, often times do not bring the necessary materials, and do little to encourage meaningful dialogue and feedback from caregivers nor demonstrate the desired activity or behavior. Only one third of the observed visitors emphasized language development throughout the visit. It is important to emphasize that these results are not generalizable due to the small and non-random nature of the sample of home visits observed. Durante el periodo colonial las instituciones eclesiasticas fungieron como acreedoras en transacciones crediticias. En el caso del prestamo de dinero, el censo consignativo redimible fue usado como figura juridica. En este articulo se toma como instrumento de analisis el caso del prestamo de dinero de los principales de capellanias a traves de los censos consignativos redimibles. A partir de la informacion de 110 solicitudes de dineros de capellanias a prestamo al Arzobispado de Santafe, se describe el credito eclesiastico de la ciudad, y se estudia el proceso que desarrollo el Arzobispado sobre la evaluacion que hizo de las solicitudes y de la decision que emitio. Se propone un enfoque comparativo del estudio del credito eclesiastico en la ciudad con otras formas de credito y se muestra la coexistencia de diversos mercados de credito bajo la forma de mercados segmentados. English Abstract: This article studies how the ecclesiastic credit functioned in the city of Santafe. During the colonial period ecclesiastic institutions acted as creditors in loan transactions. In the case of borrowing money, the censo consignativo redimible was used as a legal entity. In this article I take as tool of analysis the case of borrowing money from the capital of the foundation of chaplaincies through the censos consignativos redimibles. Relying on the information of 110 requests for money from the chaplaincies on loan to the Archdiocese of Santafe, this article offers insights into the characteristics of this credit in the city. I also study the process that the Archdiocese developed on its evaluation of the requests for loans and the decision that it, issued. Para el caso particular de Colombia, la creacion de instituciones economicas como el Banco de la Republica, el rapido incremento del endeudamiento externo y el desarrollo de un ambicioso plan de construccion de infraestructura de transporte, asi como la desaceleracion economica posterior a 1928 marcaron el periodo. Este documento examina los principales eventos economicos en el pais durante la epoca, contrastando el comportamiento de la economia colombiana con el de otras de la region y resaltando el impacto de las fluctuaciones globales sobre el desempeno economico local. \u0000English Abstract: The 1923-1931 period was one of great economic developments globally characterized for the expansions of the economy and international capital flows following the First World War and the beginning of the Great Depression. For the particular case of Colombia, the creation of economic institutions such as the Banco de la Republica, the rapid increase of foreign debt and the development of an ambitious plan to build transportation infrastructure, marked the period. Algunos autores han expresado su preocupacion respecto del cumplimiento de la funcion social de los bancos en el contexto colombiano debido al bajo nivel de bancarizacion y a la importancia que tienen las inversiones de portafolio a expensas de la cartera de credito. Este estudio busca medir la legitimidad y la reputacion organizacional de los bancos comerciales en Colombia usando el metodo desarrollado por Deephouse y Carter (2005). Estas medidas pueden ser utiles para estudios posteriores que permitirian establecer si hay una relacion entre la legitimidad y la reputacion organizacional de los bancos comerciales y el nivel de bancarizacion del pais.English Abstract: Organizational legitimacy and reputation are concepts normally associated to the social acceptance of the activities that one organization develops in a social system. Some authors have expressed their concern about the accomplishment of social function of banks because of the low level of bancarization in Colombia, but also because the importance of their investments portfolio at the credit portfolio expense. This study aims to measure organizational legitimacy and reputation on commercial banks in the Colombian context using the method developed by Deephouse and Carter (2005).
