In area interconnected power networks, large-scale real time simulations have become essential. Both dynamic simulation (also known as physical simulation) and digital simulation (also called as mathematical simulation) have strong and weak points. Based on the complementarities of dynamic simulation and digital simulation, hybrid simulation system can complete accurate and flexible simulations of limited-scale power networks. However, users may face some difficulties when simulation scale exceeding the limitation. Grid computing can be introduced to resolve the problem. In this paper a seamless-link method of hybrid simulation system based on grid computing is presented, which comprises a dynamic simulation system interfaced with the real-time digital simulator (RTDS). At the same time, it can utilize distributed computing resource for enlarging the scale of simulation to sufficiently robust to adapt simulation behavior as required.","PeriodicalId":181574,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115888280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the experiments was to determine possible audible noise levels under local climatic conditions. The variation between the corona audible noise and the static conductor surface gradient was investigated for stranded aluminium conductors. The results obtained were compared with the EPRI, CRIEPI and BPA predictions generated from the EPRI ACDC line software. The results demonstrated good agreement with the predictions in terms of trends.","PeriodicalId":181574,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131393320","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quantitative probabilistic security indices obtained by this approach can reflect power system stability and security clearly. A case study of the IEEE-RTS test system is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed algorithm. The proposed method adopts the enumeration approach is a valuable and powerful tool for power system planning, and it makes research results of reliability evaluation become more practical in the competitive market environment. We use a 1/5 scale iron model to simulate a building's structure, a surge generator which can generate 1.2/50-8/20 mus waveform used as lightning surge, an SPD which constrain lightning surge under 1 kV, and some polyvinyl chloride cable. In this experiment, different load elements such as resistors, capacitors and inductors are applied, different lengths of cable, such as 1 m, 4 m, different ways of laying the cable and positions where surge is applied are studied. The results show the rule that capacitive load gender the highest overvoltage in all kinds of loads, and the overvoltage is higher when the capacitance increasing. It is also found that the longer the cable is, higher the overvoltage is, however this is opposite when the load is capacitive. Furthermore, the results of our digital simulation by PSCAD/EMTDC (electro-magnetic transients including DC) are compared with the experimental results, and they are well matched.","PeriodicalId":181574,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130112556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents an optimal power flow (OPF) control in electric power systems incorporating IPFC. The injection models of both the IPFC and the transmission lines embedded with IPFC, which can be easily incorporated in load flow programs and optimal power flow programs, are developed. Numerical examples demonstrated that IPFC can be used for congestion management and total active power loss minimization in electric power systems at the same time. The minimum capacity of the IPFC converters is determined in the optimization process simultaneously.","PeriodicalId":181574,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130117057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The capacity of VSC-HVDC for fast independent active and reactive power control provides important benefits regarding power quality and successful and reliable system operation. In this paper the parallel AC-DC system for wind power generation is presented. To verify the basic operation principles of operating wind farm and advanced control strategies of VSC- HVDC transmission, the wind farm consisted of five wind turbines with pitch control systems and the VSC-HVDC transmission with relative control systems are modeled by PSCADEMTDC to test control algorithms, to identify problems, to investigate different modes of operation of the system and to demonstrate the unique capability of integrating large wind farm to network by VSC-HVDC. Simulation results show that VSC-HVDC transmission is an excellent tool to transmit power from wind farm to a network and at the same time it will contribute to AC stabilization and power quality.","PeriodicalId":181574,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130144379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, according to Peterson's rule, the analytical solutions to the transient reflection and transmission of electromechanical wave propagation in the elastic transmission line (ETL) are obtained. This paper proves that electromechanical dynamics in the realistic power systems can be depicted as the superposition of multiple reflection and transmission of traveling wave initiated by a disturbance at both terminals of ETLs in the continuum model. It is a novel viewpoint completely to study the essence of electromechanical dynamics in the view of wave propagation. Finally, the simulations validate all of these viewpoints presented in this paper.","PeriodicalId":181574,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"215 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133969820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, an observation decoupled state space model of AC/DC interconnected power systems, which allows estimation or computation of the state components from local measurement, is developed. Secondly, the nonlinear coordinated control rules for HVDC links and generator excitations are derived using optimal-variable-aim strategy (OVAS), which not only improves the first swing stability, but also effectively damps the subsequent power oscillation. Finally, the simulation results of a three-machine six-bus system show that the proposed method can enough use the capabilities of fast response and short-time overload of HVDC links and generator excitations to improve the transient stability of AC/DC interconnected power systems.","PeriodicalId":181574,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"227 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134376019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These results in larger stress of transmission systems that are operated much closer to stability boundaries than ever. This creates a demand for tools allowing very accurate and rapid monitoring of power system voltage stability margin with regard to load demand. This paper deals with applying quasi-steady-state analysis to study long term voltage stability problems resulting from small disturbances or load increase. The long term evolution is traced by successive equilibrium points, hence offering a good compromise between efficiency and accuracy. First a simple case is discussed, where only static load model is adopted and long term load restoration is considered by OLTC tap changing, then load models with long term restoration is dealt. The novel approach provides good convergence when system approaches the critical point by choosing continuation parameter. The accurate load demand margin and high simulation speed are also achieved at the same time. Numerical results are illustrated on a test system.","PeriodicalId":181574,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131836709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A LC fundamental series-connected resonance branch is connected in the second side of current converter, then the current converter presents low reactance to fundamental and high impedance to the harmonics, and the harmonic voltage is measured by the detecting winding of the current converter. The active power filter is controlled as a harmonic voltage source. Where, the active power filter is connected to the passive filters in series through a transformer. The system configuration and compensation principle of the hybrid active power filter are addressed. The voltage control scheme and the harmonic voltage detecting method are analyzed. The validity of novel principle and excellent filtering characteristic are verified by the experimental and simulation results.","PeriodicalId":181574,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125202400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
