The samples have been prepared by varying the Ag/In ratio in solution from 0 % to 4 %. The effect of silver on structural and optical properties of In2S3:Ag thin films has been investigated in detail using various characterization tools. XRD patterns confirmed that all the films have a nanocrystalline nature. The Raman spectroscopy showed the main mode at 306 cm−1 and 327 cm−1 indicating the presence of the β-phase in all films. Optical transmittance of spray pyrolyzed films exceeds 80% in the visible region and band gaps are estimated varying from 2.60 eV to 2.73 eV.","PeriodicalId":180557,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"73 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116236721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has brought attention to areas with moderate wind energy potentials. Darrieus type Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs) allows capturing of this potential for energy production at a cost-effective scale. To improve the performance of these turbines their design needs to be modified. With better manufacturing methods currently available cambered blades are being investigated to improve the performance of these turbines. In particular, turbine solidity is investigated in this paper due to different chord lengths of the blades. The analysis is conducted following high fidelity CFD modeling in unsteady, turbulent regimes with a sliding/rotating mesh configuration to emphasize the role of rotor blades interaction. The study showed that low solidity turbines with cambered blades operate at low coefficients of performance (CP) over a large range of tip speed ratios (TSRs). High solidity turbines have much higher CP, but at smaller TSRs and short range of TSRs. Medium solidity turbines are faced with considerable interaction which compromises their operation at TSRs as low as 1.","PeriodicalId":180557,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123659013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Industry as well as consumers must rethink how to produce and use energy at low cost price. Renewable Energy (RE) applications and energy savings are keys to meet this challenge in a sustainable way and reduce the percentage of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission to environment, which reduces the global warming. This paper presents a methodology to systematically formulate a hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) for a rural school based at Tagzirt, Morocco, which consists of solar, wind and diesel generator as a backup resource as well as battery storage, from the preliminary design stage to the optimal operation. The computation software used for this work is HOMER Pro 3.2.3. The analysis of such hybrid energy systems configuration feeding AC school load of 23 kWh/day energy consumption with a 6.02 kW maximum load demand. It has the advantage to insure a variable speed operation that will maximize the power extracted from the wind, increase the energy efficiency, reduce the torque oscillations and to generate an electric power with better quality. When we talk about microgrids which are a localized grouping of renewable electricity sources and loads, we should mention two cases of operation: the connected mode and the islanded mode. In this paper, we will focus on the first case (the connected mode). We propose an indirect decoupled control of the active and reactive power for the DFIG when the extracted power from the wind is stable and around 1.5MW, we also propose the control diagrams applied to the rectifier and the inverter with their respective models, in order to guarantee a good energy transmission. Simulation results are obtained for a power around 1.5 MW.","PeriodicalId":180557,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130207965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A hybrid model based on the methodology of Box & Jenkins (SARIMA; Seasonal Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average) and SVM (Support Vector Machine) is elaborated to predict the clearness index Kt (ratio of daily global solar radiation on the extraterrestrial solar radiation). Then, by a simple calculation, the DGSR is deducted from the Kt. The results showed that the developed hybrid model SARIMA_SVM improves slightly the prediction of DGSR compared to the conventional SARIMA model.","PeriodicalId":180557,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121228874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this regards, the Three-level shunt active power filter (SAPF) is proposed. The considered SAPF is constituted by an AC/DC Three-level NPC inverter. This latter is connected to the point of common coupling (PCC) through a high order filter instead of conventional filter L. Indeed, a new model for the 3-Level NPC SAPF is developed, this model accounts for the coupling filter LCL. Based on, a non-linear control method is proposed to meet the control objectives: i) Compensation of harmonic and reactive currents referred as power quality improvement. ii) Regulation and balancing DC bus voltage. Moreover, the controller is made adaptive for compensating the switching loss power uncertainty. The proposed adaptive control laws are formally analyzed using tools from the Lyapunov stability and the averaging theory. The performances of the controller are illustrated through several simulations.","PeriodicalId":180557,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116563698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
