Comparative study of problem solving skill development features in Japanese and Indonesian high school physics textbooks 日本和印度尼西亚高中物理教科书中解题技能培养特点的比较研究

To investigate the role of physics textbooks in nurturing problem-solving skills, a comparative and content analysis method was employed, focusing on two textbooks: The Basic Physics High School Textbook for Science by Sukenshuppan (JP-SKN) and Fisika 1 untuk Jurusan IPA by Tiga Serangkai (ID-TS). Foshay's teaching principles for problem-solving skills served as the analytical framework, consisting of 12 key points to identify problem-solving teaching features within the textbooks. Explicitly stated sub-chapters and consistently recurring implicit elements within each chapter were recognized as book features. The analysis revealed that JP-SKN encompasses a greater variety of problem-solving skill development features compared to ID-TS. While the quality of these features may differ, JP-SKN contains 16 book features aligned with problem-solving teaching principles, surpassing the 12 found in ID-TS. JP-SKN employs diverse approaches to foster problem-solving skills, including case studies, graphs, tables, illustrations, and interactive digital content. Its \"Thinking Learning\" feature (思考学習) encapsulates numerous problem-solving principles, providing instructions, structured problems, and encouraging the formulation of mental models for problem resolution. Conversely, ID-TS incorporates additional elements beyond problem-solving, such as promoting teamwork, scientific attitude, and offering numerous practice questions. These findings offer valuable insights and references for the development of learning resources that aim to promote critical thinking skills within Indonesia's new curriculum. The research method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. The ordinal data for filling out the questionnaire was changed using the successive interval analysis method with the help of Microsoft Excel. Data were analyzed by calculating using the average and standard deviation. The results of data analysis show that students' communication skills in physics learning are in the medium category. There were 3 students with high communication skills category, 26 students with medium communication skills category, and 4 students with low communication skills category. The average score of all indicators is in the category of both oral and written communication skills. However, as it is not a stand-alone subject with its own dedicated curriculum, it is difficult for students to learn compared to other subjects. There is a need for a learning medium to help students learn, proposed here as a set of quartet cards, an alternative medium for students to learn about a topic. The quartet cards show certain astronomy topics such as lunar phases, seasons, terrestrial, and jovian planets amongst others in a set of 4 illustrated cards (Quartet) with description in 15-20 words. This research tested the effectiveness of astronomy quartet cards (“Kuartet Astronomy”) in students learning astronomy topics using pre-test and post test to obtain quantitative output. {"title":"Penggunaan scaffolding konstruksi instrumen untuk meningkatkan kemampuan guru IPA dalam mengonstruksi tes keterampilan berpikir kritis dan kreatif pada kegiatan diklat peningkatan kompetensi guru","authors":"Intan Setiawati","doi":"10.17509/wapfi.v9i1.66655","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.17509/wapfi.v9i1.66655","url":null,"abstract":"Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan gambaran tentang peningkatan kemampuan guru dalam mengonstruksi instrumen tes keterampilan berpikir kritis dan berpikir kreatif sebagai efek penggunaan scaffolding konstruksi instrumen pada kegiatan diklat peningkatan kompetensi guru  (PKG) IPA.  Scaffolding konstruksi instrumen dikembangkan sendiri oleh peneliti. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pre-experiment dengan desain one group pretask-posttask, yang melibatkan subyek eksperimen sebanyak 20 guru IPA SMP di kabupaten Bandung  Barat dengan berbagai latar belakang pendidikan formal, lama pengalaman mengajar dan jenis kelamin.  Instrumen pengumpul data yang digunakan meliputi task mengkonstruksi instrumen pengukur keterampilan berpikir kritis dan kreatif.  Program diklat PKG ini menggunakan metode workshop yang diintegrasikan dengan strategi task based learning dengan bantuan scaffolding. Implementasi program diklat PKG  dapat meningkatkan kemamapuan guru IPA dalam mengkonstruksi instrumen pengukur keterampilan berpikir kritis dan kreatif  dengan kategori peningkatan sedang. By limiting the focus to Stickman interactions with objects and the surrounding environment, this research provides an innovative foundation for physics teaching, presenting a more engaging visual approach and enriching students' understanding of abstract physics concepts. The implication of this research is the potential for using animation as an effective learning tool in teaching physics concepts that are difficult to understand.
